Will also happen to Apple hardware at some point, just like in leased cars....

You will own nothing!
Yeah… frightening.
Rent a house, lease a car, TV, devices, services, subscription content, etc. etc.

You need to keep the same income with an average of adding c.a. 5% per year to keep paying for things you can use, but not own.
I prefer to purchase when I can, and use it as long as I want. Or even sell when done. It. I like to stay in charge of my funds.

This!, has anyone who owns the Apps reached out to Apple to ask?

Maybe, but no one here seem to have done so. Just multiple post of people complaining about iWorks costing money, when it’s only premium add ons that will cost. Poor reporting by whomever did not MAKE that fact very clear.

Edit: people also need to remember, if another post was correct, this qualifies for family sharing, that’s up to 6 accounts being able to use these extras for 129 a year. If you are a small business already using Apple stuff, you could probably sneak all your employees business accounts into your businesses ‘family’

Great points! I think the bundle will become free soon (just like MacOS and iWork did. Logic used to cost $999!). At that time, Garageband and iMovie will be sunset, which makes sense. Apple has a fully integrated content creation suite from conception to the final master.

what the hell everything is a subscription now. Adobe pricing is ridiculous. I use hardly use a handful apps but it forces you to buy the whole package. I like FCP for quick edits. I'm curious to see what features will be limited.

Waiting for the day I need to pay a subscription fee for my Macs. Oh you want updates that $40 a month.

Cool. No thanks.
My sentiment, exactly.

It sounds like Apple is eyeing Office 365 and trying to do subscriptions like Microsoft handles them. But the suite of Keynote/Pages/Numbers has NEVER been equivalent. They're great applications; don't get me wrong. But an app like Excel simply has FAR more development time that was devoted to it and especially with the right add-ons, can substitute for some costly dedicated software applications to do statistical analysis and more.

Final Cut Pro *might* be an app where people are more ok with a paid subscription to get premium features in it. But again, I find that distasteful vs just releasing major new revisions every so often and letting people buy them as they wish to get current, OR choose to save their money and keep using the old version that meets their needs.

Especially with AI integration behind most of the enhancements, I'll just take a pass. From what I've seen, AI is still over-hyped and under-performs for most of what I do. It offers to write code and turns out non-functional, broken results. It offers to write ad copy for me, and churns out wordy boilerplate that sounds like every other AI generated advertising blurb. I ask it for details on products and it gives me answers that are JUST accurate enough to make you trust the entirety of it, only to find 1 or 2 key items are incorrect or outdated.

Wait a second...

"A one-time purchase will still be available, but access to some of the premium content is available only to Apple Creator Studio subscribers. If you already own Final Cut Pro, it will continue to be updated."

That only says "content" will be limited to subscribers. That's not the same as features. I think the article may be misleading... I only really run Logic regularly anyway, so I don't particularly care, but just point out the inconsistency in the reasoning of the article.

So LibreOffice is the go-to soon. Got it. Though to be fair, if some of these "updates" are entirely AI features... not missing much.
So far, I have yet to have explain to me what AI is going to do for me on a daily basis. I don't want AI trying to write sentences/paragraphs of the Crime Novels I write. Who owns that IP? I don't that's for sure. I'm just waiting for the scumbag lawyers to try to make a case that AI is (like companies) a human and therefore can claim copyright on the text that the AI generates. What then people? Will you pay royalties for every bit of text/code etc that AI suggests?

Reallyyyyy? How much more money does Apple need? This is a bad turn they are making and the boemerang will return. This is really incredible

Why would they sunset iMovie? That's an altogether different app, and a heck of a lot easier to use than FCP. Essentially a home/iPhone user app vs Pro app.

What are teenages with a base iPhone going to edit their video with?

Is it actually saying that the “iWork” apps won’t receive new features? Or they just won’t receive “premium” features? That’s a key difference.
This is my question too. Anyone know the answer?

If this means they are no longer supporting and improving the free version of iWork and iMovie, then it's a real bummer for me. One of the things that attracted me to the Apple ecosystem were these free apps that work across platforms (Mac, iPad, iPhone). It helped me justify paying a premium price for the hardware. If that is gone, then it definitely changes the calculus. Also, I have a fair investment of time in iWork documents....including Numbers with multiple tables per sheet, which does not translate as well to Excel. Going to be a hassle to convert.

cheaper than microsoft office 365 and adobe suite….
Final Cut Pro = just for fans
„iWork“ = just for private use
office365 and Adobe = the all in one suite for home and professionals

Apart from the fact that Apple has no interest in compatibility and user guidance. That means people have to pay for having to constantly adapt their workflow.

I shouldn't have to pay for a movie editor and music production software to access magic fill in Numbers

Surely there must be another way to just get the additional iWork features.

Perfectly put. I’m basically a finance guy and Numbers is the only app in this bundle I’m potentially interested in. I have no use for any of the other stuff.

If Apple is determined to move more stuff to subscription then I could accept paying a subscription for the iWorks apps - assuming it was less than the $129 per year for this bigger creator bundle, I do after all pay for apps I don’t use as part of my Microsoft 365 subscription, but forcing me to pay a subscription for a big bundle that includes all sorts of apps for creatives that I would never use would keep me sticking with my MS 365 sub whereas a more targeted iWorks subscription bundle would have a good chance of moving me to Numbers (although Apple would have to use some of that subscription revenue to significantly improve Number’s functionality).

Fully agree. All 3 of the Creator Studio apps have their own basic equivalent, iMovie, GarageBand and now Pixelmator which hopefully will end up free and bundled with new Macs/iPads
