No... I can make a call on LTE not Wifi... however data/text still does not work. Just talked to AT&T again and he says that it's an issue on their side. He says the system is overwhelmed with the number of activation and its not provisioning correctly. Basically numbersync is backlogged and not completing setup fully.

With AT&T, I get the screen to add it to my existing plan (Mobile Share) after the login page. However, when I hit continue, it does nothing except time out. I never get an error message.

I have a company discount (premiere account?). Not sure if that is affecting it.

I have a company discount as well... and having terrible problems. However, I just added my cellular plan from the Watch app on the phone and let it activate from there. It asks you to sign into numbersync

This is EXACTLY what is going on with my watch as well. And I too, have a company discount.

I started a discussion on the Apple forums precisely asking this..

Now my T-Mobile has reverted back to requiring ssn# and is rejecting it again. This is utter nonsense

Upgraded two iPhones early and bought a watch. Planning on upgrading to the X in 8 weeks. Was super excited then, My day went completely south when AT&T decided to not allow me to add my watch because of a college bill that wasn’t paid from 8 years ago on u-verse. Forget that I have paid $400 a month for my family plan and $220 a month for direct tv for 8 years since. Plus switched out about 50 phones and upgraded or added multiple lines. Yeah, smart business here. When I asked to speak to a manager I was left on hold for 20 minutes before realizing this moron rep just didn’t want to help me. Great job AT&T. I want to give you $10 more a month but you would rather have me leave after spending $10’s if thousands of dollars and several years with you. Stellar company. I’ll be a heading to Verizon Monday.

Update:

We were finally able to activate cellular my wife's watch tonight after double checking again.

As the process started and we connected to Verizon, it made us create a personal account on verizonwirless.com and login that way to complete the process.

Not sure if whatever Verizon support did for us this morning got it moving hours later or if that was just something Verizon fixed system wide.

I’m on T-Mobile One Business plan. All day yesterday I was getting the “Authentication Failed” message when prompted to enter last four digits of SSN. I just tried again, and there is no more prompt to enter the SSN. I get new screens now that look like it’s working properly, but at the very end of the procedure I get error 412.

I’ve restarted the iPhone and the watch and made sure Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on. I’ve also verified that Wi-Fi calling is enabled on the phone and the watch. I’ve tried three times and got error 412 three times.

I’ve just tried again to activate cellular on the T-Mobile One business plan, and the activation page is back to requesting the last four digits of my SSN, and then displaying the “Authentication Failed” message. Earlier today, when I tried to activate the LTE Watch I was getting different screens and no request for my SSN. At the end of activation earlier today, I was getting error 412.

Slow progress... I can now send iMessages when watch is in LTE only. So I can now make phone calls and send iMessages. Regular sms and other apps that use data do not work.

I think I know the root cause of one att issue. When I got my watch yesterday in the mail from ATT, the box had a label with the device’s phone number, but I was unable to activate the watch until I contacted customer service. I think that the shipment group never scanned the box’s bar code to capture the IMEI and other relevant identifiers. The CS rep had me give him the numbers from my box and then it was immediately activated.

Apple Watch Series 3 models are being delivered across the United States and the rest of the world today, and as customers start attempting to activate their new LTE devices, some of them are running into serious setup issues.

On the MacRumors forums, several AT&T customers have received messages stating AT&T is not supported. Support reps seem confused about how Apple Watch activation works, with one rep telling MacRumors reader KG87 that his watch needs a new number.

Many of the affected AT&T customers have said the company seems to be having trouble activating watches not purchased directly through AT&T and have been spending quite a lot of time on the phone in an attempt to get the problem ironed out. Some customers are even being told to call back tomorrow. From MacRumors reader Greg:According to another AT&T support rep, customers who ordered an Apple Watch directly from Apple will not be getting them activated until tomorrow because they're missing key information Apple was supposed to send them.

Verizon users don't seem to be having as much trouble as AT&T users, but several have been told Verizon's systems aren't fully functional. Verizon is said to be doing maintenance to fix the problem and there's no estimate of when issues will be worked out. Many VZW customers may not be able to make phone calls due to the server issues.

T-Mobile customers also appear to be having significant issues, like MacRumors reader Jesse, who said he's spent several hours on the phone with T-Mobile trying to work out an authentication error with his social security number. "T-Mobile reps are completely unprepared for dealing with this issue today. Spent many hours on the phone with T-Mobile and Apple already. Apple claims this is T-Mobile issue," he told us.

T-Mobile customers have also been told the company is having system wide issues affecting the signal T-Mobile users are getting on the Apple Watch.

At least some of the activation issues are due to customers who have incompatible plans. AT&T customers with a grandfathered unlimited data plan, for example, are not able to use the Apple Watch Series 3, despite assurances from AT&T reps that the watch was compatible with the plan.

Across the pond, some EE subscribers in the UK are having the same activation problems, and EE reps are at a loss on how to helpThough some customers are having issues, others have been able to activate their LTE watches with no problems and have even said it's an easy process. For the subset of users running into issues, though, it's been a frustrating afternoon attempting to deal with Apple support and carrier representatives who are still struggling to figure out all the quirks and problems that come along with supporting a new device.

Update: Several AT&T customers with grandfathered unlimited data plans have been able get an Apple Watch Series 3 to work with their plans with the help of an AT&T representative. The Apple Watch can be set up as an independent wearable and then linked to the iPhone using NumberSync.

My exact problem!

I think it's more ignorant to take a few people's complaints on an online forum and say it is a widespread issue. None of the reviews for any site said they had trouble setting up the watch. I had no problems, as have many many others.

Mine was bought from apple directly, and again I had zero issues with ATT.

Survivorship bias or survival bias is the logical error of concentrating on the people or things that made it past some selection process and overlooking those that did not, typically because of their lack of visibility.”

This is exactly what you are doing here.

I recommend you gain some visibility prior to making your own ignorant statements, I am glad YOU had no issues - that does not mean thousands of others are not. Not sure what sites you are reviewing in 2017 forums and social platforms are where people typically go when issues like this occur and trend I recommend you check out Apple and AT&T twitter support and twitter in general - AT&T was not prepared.

I find it interesting just how varied the presentation of the problem can be. With some people getting to try to set it up, and some not even being able to try.

The issues that are being reported definitely vary with different errors - that portion of the App is direct connection to AT&T systems and errors have even changed since Watch S3 launch and during different attempts reps do to resolve the issue making account and line feature changes to attempt and provision the device. This would all be due to the carriers systems and hundreds of variations of plans on the account and specific line features associated - They were not prepared for the “Seamless” Watch App activation process as it is failing to create a new line for the Watch (Yes new line, this has to occur for the eSIM to activate) and also adding a number sync feature that masks the Number to the one on your iPhone creating the “Same Number” feature presented in Apple’s Keynote.

Do you have WiFi Calling turned on in your iPhone settings? Just curious.

For any T-Mobile users out there who's having issues, I suggest following B720's steps below. I got mine fixed and the free 3mos is still intact. Basically just remove the plan, then select keep it on the watch; then reconnect. Thanks again @B720 ^^

A few others and myself on the T-Mobile board were able to get our phone calls working after doing the following. I went to the Watch app on the iPhone and then selected the Cellular row. I then pressed the T-Mobile row right under the Cellular Plan heading. On the bottom a menu popped up and I pressed Remove T-Mobile Plan. I then restarted the connection process and it worked. I then called T-Mobile to tell them this worked for others and myself. I hope they passed on the message.

To me this was not an Apple issue. it was not the activation issue other threads have discussed. It was simply a Digits reconnection matter.

Anyone got any advice for the dreaded EE 012 error? EE themselves seem to be out of ideas (2 days speaking to their top level support and they’re stumped!)

If not I’ll send the watch back tomorrow and cancel the other business ones on order.

Clearly Apple & carriers have totally messed this up.

Thanks.

Part of me would actually like the watch to be set up on a fully independent data plan, the only real reason to maintain a phone number would be cellular calls.

Finally got it fixed!

Here was the problem...

I was on AT&T Mobile Share Value plan. They had to upgrade me (only $3 more) to the Mobile Share Advantage plan.

At THAT point I was able to connect my watch to cellular.

I have to say, this was a cluster-F from both Apple and AT&T!

Wonder if anyone has been able to activate with the Mobile Share Value plan? I have the Mobile Share Value 40 GB with Rollover Data plan. I would have to downgrade to 25 GB at the same cost if what you say is true about changing to the Advantage plan.

Try to contact AT&T and tell them what you want it as an individual plan called AT&T Unlimited Wearable plan for $10. Of the rep does not know what that I suggest asking them to search it in their system, this shoul be able to be added to any account from the forums I read as a stand-alone not effecting your plan as this is not a normal cellular device it is a wearable. Once added and device information captured I was able to reset my devices out of pre-caution and it finally worked. I think they just done know since it is such a new device if it’s kind requiring specific features to work.

Tried again to activate the LTE Watch on T-Mobile One business plan this morning. Same problem with “Authentication Failed” error after entering last four digits of SSN. It’s been almost 48 hours since I got the watch and still no resilution from T-Mobile.

[doublepost=1506247872][/doublepost]I’m facing the same situation. Neither Apple is able to offer solution nor T-Mobile. Both are blaming the other. We are stuck with watch with no feature, for very reason we bought it.

I’ve just contacted T-Mobile support via Twitter and here the response for what it’s worth:

“Thanks for filling me in on the account information. No-one wants to have to wait on new devices, for sure! You are correct, we are well aware and fully engaged, and currently still working on the business account activations currently, and have high hopes this will be resolved today! We appreciate you hanging in there with us, while we get these bugs worked out!”

Totally on the carriers side, I think they didn't get their system ready for hiccups or something. Nor here nor there I feel your pain I was dealing with my carrier all day Ughhh almost made feel resentment towards it.

You both have business accounts, have you tried the last 4 of your tax ID number? ‍♂️

Yes, I have tried last four digits of the EIN. Same error.
