Yes, I did the 'try to put it in the slot first' approach for the first five minutes or so.

I'm sorry man. I was having too much fun.

Struggles or Still Getting Used To:
- Screen turns off way too quick and locks when screen turns off. I need to search deeper to see if there are options to configure this to liking.
- Related to the above, I have to put my passcode in a LOT to do anything, including siri from wake. I'll likely figure this out with time though.
- Notifications seem spotty, more off than than not. It may be some setting, but I have only received like 10% of my texts to the watch. Any insights would be helpful.

I can only speculate, but with the screen locking, were you using the watch when it was connected to the charger and not on your wrist? I was doing that earlier today and thought the same thing, but once I had it on my wrist I haven't had the screen lock once. If you are having the screen lock while you are wearing it, you may have not checked the option during setup to keep it unlocked while you are wearing it. Or it might be too loose on your wrist.

As for not getting texts, is this while using your phone? Because you will only get notifications on the watch while the screen on your phone is off. If you are using the phone, that's where you'll see the notifications. That's really the only thing I can think of, I haven't had any issues with not getting notifications.

I have wrist detect enabled and active by raising wrist enabled as well. This has been on my wrist while doing my testing and I've tried varying tightness and locations on my wrists as well as each wrist with orientation changed accordingly.

The notifications have been while the phone is locked and screen off.

I called apple support and they walked me through a couple debug steps and said it sounded like a defective unit. They wanted to try one last thing before I brought it in, but tried again this morning to no avail.

I wonder if the apple stores have replacement stock?

I used it pretty heavily yesterday and got to say it makes a great little companion when you are out doing things.

Went to the gym yesterday, and used it to control my music and track my workout. The heart rate monitor almost matched the readout on the treadmill exactly (I did have to tighten it a bit though to get the accuracy right).

Later that night I went out to dinner with a bunch of friends and used the watch for walking directions to the bar (I live in NYC), and to get updated New York Mets (bad night) and NY Rangers (good night) scores. I love that you can add third party apps to the glances (and reorder them).

The part I found interesting is that not one person in the gym or bar noticed I was wearing an Apple Watch (until I told them). It really just looks like a normal watch.

Agree with OPs list

I'm just not *getting* it yet? My feelings towards it lean towards the nagative.

The notifications are nice, but other than that, meh

I guess early gripes are

- the 42mm is actually still really small, even on my small wrists
- the screen is pretty dull, even on full brightness
- the screen often doesn't come on when I look at it
- sometimes I'll get a buzz/ping and have no idea why, as there's no notification
- glances are indeed slow to load, making them pretty useless

I cancelled my pre-order (placed at 8:07 for delivery yesterday!) because I had the doubts you mention above.

Thinking of ordering again, but it'll be a June despatch!

You have kind of turned me off of the idea again, though.

Also, as there is constant information going from iPhone to Apple Watch, it must have quite an impact on the phone's battery life?

Have your feelings changed since yesterday?

I like the look of the watch, and I love tech, but in its present state I'm kind of thinking the watch is pretty much useless?

SLOW SLOW SLOW.

Staring at my watch for 20 seconds waiting for the weather makes me look insane. Watches are made to glance and quick actions. Until this is fixed, the watch is hugely disappointing. Software updates need to eliminate the need to tether to the phone.

I've been having fun with a game called Spy_Watch. It revolves around quick notifications that you can answer without launching the app.

It updates right away if you put it on the watch face. I'm using the modular face.

The heavier packaging is somewhat of a psychological play by apple I think. Makes you feel like you have something premium and tangible, if not luxurious.

The whole experience is excellent. I have the 38mm sport with white band and the build quality and quality of materials is remarkable. My band had a small speck on it but it's not the worst thing ever.

First seven hours with my 42/SS/Link

A long time tech guy, I expected about as many bugs as it came with. I've bought lots of first gen Apple products and this is no better or no worse. If Apple focuses they'll get them sorted out after a few updates.

Build quality is decent, but if I don't seem impressed like many are, it's because my ultra high end Swiss watches are truly stunning. I'm not expecting the same from Apple, this watch only cost $999.00 which is less than 1% of one of my others.

Going forward I'm interested in seeing if there's a compelling reason to wear this watch. While I receive a large number of notifications throughout my day, I have a very well planned protocol in place. Handling my notifications without them being intrusive is something I've got down nicely. Having them on my wrist would actually be intrusive and irritating.

I'm going to enjoy the watch for what it is, see how things play out, and if it turns out to be useful I'll keep it. If not I'll have satisfied my curiosity.

Hold on...you actually have a launch day 42mm SS Link Bracelet?!?!?!

This is the first one I've heard of. Please give us some background ie:Order date/time, location

You're spot on. This has been my problem being out and about with the watch, you just look ridiculous waiting for the watch to load. Especially when the screen turns off and you have to tap it too.

It's not convenient or at a glance the way it should be.

Until this is fixed, it's a notification device not living up to potential for me. Not to mention a while bunch of apps that just don't load.

My only gripe is with the packaging. After looking at how the Edition boxes function as a charging base, I'm pissed that the SS boxes don't do the same thing. That could not possibly be that complicated or expensive and would have been a very welcome feature.

I agree about the case. It's nice but useless. Couldn't they have made a simple way to use the bottom portion of the case a place to charge your watch. Disappointing miss Apple!!

Does any one feel like interface feels inconsistent? I move back and forth from touch to digital crown. It would be nice to do most with the crown. On the home screen , I personally feel like the digital crown should parse through all the apps and then a press should enter the app.

Also doesn't it feel liked the real home screen isn't the app screen but rather the watch face? Why does it take three presses to get back to it? Just some thoughts.

Yes, I do get the sense that the watch face is the real home screen, and that there are some inconsistencies. I guess it comes down to building a new UI for such a small screen. Jony Ive has some interesting, if controversial ideas about UI design, but if iOS 7 vs iOS 8 is any indication some of these will be toned down with time and made a bit more consistent (or at least we'll get used to them). I think they could make better use of the contact button.

Ok, cool. So my Starbucks and Walgreens card wasn't initially showing up in Passbook. I had to tap on Custom and then Mirror iPhone in the watch app on the iPhone in order to get them to show up in Passbook on the watch.

Thanks! :cool::apple:

Awesome. Glad I could help.

I've not noticed this at all. I have found that the feature that turns the watch face on doesn't always detect when I turn my wrist, but it's getting better (ie I'm unconsciously conditioning myself to the motion that does the trick).

There has to be a better way to add music to the watch. Syncing is painful. Are they using wi-fi or BlueTooth? It shouldn't take an hour to sync 60 songs

This really does feel like a first gen product. Tons of little stuff that annoys me, stuff that doesn't make any sense.

I got the classic leather. Wife got the milanese. Both 42mm.

So far, it's doing everything I expected. I love the notifications and being able to do dismiss or quick action. Especially calendar and reminders. That's the major draw. Siri is surprisingly good and being able to do phone calls on watch is super cool. I can wait on third party stuff to improve later this year.

My wife on the other hand just seems very uninterested. She took it off as soon as we got home. Here I am still fooling around with it and she's on her iphone. So no, definitely not worth 700 to her. I suppose you either get it or you don't.

My leather classic though was feeling either too tight or too loose (if i adjusted). So I decided to wear her watch with milanese. Surprisingly, I like it better. I can adjust the fit better. I don't worry about sweating or the leather getting wet. I may get a sport band later.

So it looks like I'll take back my classic leather watch and keep hers. It's already back in the box.

w
- the 42mm is actually still really small, even on my small wrists

Based on my fitting session with the 38 and 42, I'd say if the 42 doesn't look too big on your "small" wrists you don't have small wrists. The 42 took up almost the entire length of my wrists and looked silly big on my actual small wrists. I "settled" for the 38.

I agree maneuverability is a bit of a learning curve on the 42, so I'm a bit scared of what the 38 will be like -- no 38s available to use, only try on. I wonder why. ;)

The entire watch requires much more out of the user than really any other Apple product I've known. The icons are tiny, there are a lot of them, and I'm unsure if non-geeks will be willing to take the time to memorize what each icon represents. It begs the question whether it's too complicated for an Apple product.

This entire launch is so odd. Apple was full-on gangbusters PR up until the actual launch. Then crickets. PR has dwindled. No big media launch. No store availability. No sizable inventory built up -- everything is almost build-to-order since 3 minutes after the start of pre-orders. It's like Apple was drunk on itself then quickly sobered up to the fact we are dealing with an unique 1st gen product with de facto beta firmware and better tread a little slower. Instead of going 0-100 mph in 8 sec they went 100 to 20 in 5.

When someone sends me a text I don't get the option to reply unless I sent them a text first (from the watch) not sure if I am missing something there?

Also, messages are taking several minutes to come through to the watch after they ping on the ipad. Therefore I have taken messages off the ipad in case it is causing the problem.

Every single message that I have sent from the watch has told me it could not be delivered, yet every message has been delivered as I have received replies. In the messaging app on the watch every message has a red exclamation mark next to it and tells me it could not be delivered - has this happened to anyone else?

At the end of each text there's a reply button for me, regardless of who sent it. I'm not sure about your other message issues but maybe you can try restarting your watch if you haven't already. I haven't had these problems with my watch.

I had the same problem. Log out of iCloud on your PHONE and then log back in. Fixed it for me.

Yikes.

I'm not getting a good feeling. I may cancel. It just sounds really buggy.

I knew the notifications would be tricky. They're tricky on my phone, let alone sending them to this thing. I was going to use it standalone, but it doesn't look good.

I'm really glad there's a delay with my order. I'll have a short while to decide.

Good to see honest, objective, impressions though.

The thing is, I sort of knew it was going to be like this, so it's not a disappointment. The question is do I want a somewhat gimped device for this cost

--Why on earth is the packaging so heavy?

Why is the sky blue?

--I like the ability to customize the watch face, but took me a bit to figure out how.

RTFM. Lolz

--Lots of things don't work quite like I expect them to. Learning curve is a little steeper than I would have expected (considering I have many years of Apple devices under my belt and I'm technically quite clued). And you're definitely nailed to the phone for the first hour or so.

RTFM again. lolz!

--Force touch is finicky. The Sport strap is finicky. Lots of things are finicky.

Yeah, everything pisses me off in this world too man.

--First two third-party apps I installed are basically non-functional (Amazon, and "Joy", a third-party Spotify front-end.)

It's a first gen smart watch brah.

--You can control Spotify playback from your phone by using the Music *glance* page on the watch, but not the Music app on the watch. (Basic transport controls only.)

Unacceptable! Sell it on eBay.

--Apparently I'm going to have to call my bank to re-authorize my credit card which is already auth'd for Apple Pay on my phone.

The pain!

--Yes, the OS is slow. A lot of Apps take so long processing that the watch face goes back to sleep in the interim.

What a POS man.

This is absolutely the best response I have ever read. Wait....no it's not. This post is uninformative and doesn't even address the thread. It's the ridiculous ranting of someone who blindly defends a product. I feel dumber for having read it. I'm glad you are enjoying your watch. I know I'm enjoying mine. It is ridiculous that seem to enjoy belittling someone for having issues. SMH.

There are a few bugs but it is version 1.0 of the software. I'm sure the first update is arriving shortly.

Overall the watch is solid - there are a few items that will be indispensable (for me that is having my daily calendar on my wrist) but I highly recommend living with it for the full 14 days (or whatever your return window is) before deciding.

...........you own a $100,000 dollar watch? Holy crap
