I can have music play from the Mac, and HomePod at the same time, and they stay in sync. Just not sure if two or more would work.

It works, but doesn't. I don't have 2 HomePods, but I was able to play multiple AirPlay devices at once, including the HomePod. The HomePod ends up being out of sync because it's playing the song directly. So, technically it works, it's just out of sync and probably will remain so until AirPlay 2 is released.

-- edit --

My Apple hardware's all on a Developer versions (Apple TV, MacBook Pro, etc), as I am an Apple Developer, so that might be in part why it currently works for me at all.

It just works...
  • but only with Apple devices.
  • Only on certain surfaces, otherwise it marks it
  • Doesn't work with Spotify, google music, Amazon music or any other type of music service apart from Apple Music
  • Won't link to Bluetooth like any other wireless speaker out there.
Reminds me of all the jokes about if Microsoft made cars.

Not good when you have control of both hardware and software walled garden.

My unoriginal sarcasm highlights Apple's issues with quality control. That kind of sarcasm has become all too common place regarding Apple products. I have a PowerBook 180 that still functions perfectly. Apple needs to get back to their roots of impeccable quality.
You have a perfectly-funtioning PowerBook 180?! Dang, sell it as a collector’s item.

Can I direct you to the growth in the "Other" products category and the comments made on last quarter's conference call about wearables?

Or would you like to just keep ignoring the facts?

Oh, you mean corporate numbers thrown out by select highly mitigated & categorized polls?

It's dead in the water. The iPhone X is a flop, the AirPods are a flop, this is a flop.

You may well disagree with me here :)

But if this were a Microsoft Windows or an Android product, whilst annoying, I'd give it a ton more slack when it comes to being critical.

Microsoft/Windows and Android, have literally thousands of permutations of hardware combinations to try and get all working together. Anything from super high end to a mish mash of parts across god knows how many years.

Apple has total and utter control over everything, Hardware and software all for a premium price tag, as they have the luxury of testing it all in-house with all their own devices before launch.

Given the luxury Apple have, this type of thing really should not be expected.

This. This. THIS.

People do not seem to get this simple fact - what Steve Jobs strive'd so hard to achieve - and most definitely did - was a high level of quality control & finesse not seen in certain product lines for the given price point - or at all in some cases.

Unfortunately with Tim Cook at the head; Apple has turned from a category leader, to a number chaser. They are exactly where Microsoft were 10 years ago - devoid of innovation and utter lack of focus & control of it's own faculties.

Tragic.

FYI, "corporate numbers" are the only numbers. They are highly regulated and it's highly illegal to make them up.

I had issues when I first got it. It was because of me trying to set it up on the hotel WiFi I was staying in. Are the people having issues in college or shared access dorms?

To play devil's advocate, I don't understand why there is so much hype with the homepod. You could easily create something similar with your existing home speaker system and an iphone.

Is it that Apple hasn't been producing much of interest lately and any new product is big news?

Only if they have the correct versions of things it seems, from comments on here. And as someone said or inferred, Jobs would have made no bones about saying: if you want it to do this, you need that (e.g. The right iOS or Mac.) no one really misses cd drives but rember the rows then (I was given three press kits on CD at a huge trade exhibition at the weekend so maybe it hasn't quite got through). Ending 14 pin sockets, was it 14? The list goes on.

This legitimately concerns me because I have to change my WiFi passwords soon. Anyone have any suggestions to go about doing that without having to nuke my home and re-add every. single. device. ?

It's not the exact same situation, but I initially set mine up at work since I picked it up at lunch. When I got home, I opened home, clicked on the HP, waited a minute while it was thinking, and it automagically updated to my home network. Easier than I was expecting. I had my phone near the HP, so I'm guessing it used Bluetooth to update the settings.

Buffett just bought 34M more shares of AAPL, bringing his total to 165M. The best investor of all time certainly likes it. I'll be sure to check what you think though.

Had it setup in less than 30 seconds, worked flawless. This thing is seriously awesome and can't wait to see where it goes... Can even hear me when I am upstairs! it's crazy!

This seems again one of those classic issues I keep reading about here.
When I've read some Apple folk don't like the latest iOS version.
Then others saying "well don't upgrade then if you don't want to, no-one is forcing you"

Then we get things like this, which means, whilst an iOS upgrade it not actually forced, is may as well be, ans if you dare to say no to the latest iOS you care going to have problems very soon.

you want old iOS versions to work with new products?

I'm staying at a hotel for 2 months and was going to buy one today for my birthday...but from what I'm understanding, the HomePod will not work due to me using the hotel internet? I would think it could work because I called the company that provides the internet for the hotel and they have my Xbox to where I don't have to re-login every night

depends. if you connect using your iPhone to hotel's wifi, does it pop up with a "login" website to enable internet access? if so, then homepod might not work.

Meh I will continue to moan about Apples software, I think it’s hardware is alright, the software is just terrible with bugs in my experiences in the last year!

Software? You mean the vibration absorbing silicon base on the HomePods that gasp, leave marks on polished wood? Oh, sorry, wrong thread. software. what is this software you speak of?
