Just WOW..What to say..

If your going to force a device to use two factor requirements to set up something to those users will be 'more secure' you'd also better make sure the same two-factor doesn't affect any other iCloud service either or Apple ID as a whole.

I would bet after setup u will loose access to Homepod if you then disable two factor (if u could) which only further suggests if Apple is playing "Mr. strong man" they better stand by it.

This legitimately concerns me because I have to change my WiFi passwords soon. Anyone have any suggestions to go about doing that without having to nuke my home and re-add every. single. device. ?

Like another user reported, I also first configured my HomePod at work, then took it home and it had problems connecting to the internet. Using the Home app on my iPhone fixed it.

Here's a link to the Apple support page that describes the situation: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208380

I
assume that if you change your Wifi network's password (as opposed to moving to a different WiFi network), it would be a similar situation/require running the Home app to resolve.

It works, but doesn't. I don't have 2 HomePods, but I was able to play multiple AirPlay devices at once, including the HomePod. The HomePod ends up being out of sync because it's playing the song directly. So, technically it works, it's just out of sync and probably will remain so until AirPlay 2 is released.

-- edit --

My Apple hardware's all on a Developer versions (Apple TV, MacBook Pro, etc), as I am an Apple Developer, so that might be in part why it currently works for me at all.

Interesting, I messed around with t last night (MBP on high Sierra/ latest iTunes) and the Mac and HomePod stayed perfectly in sync. I didn’t try to add my another device on top of it though. But in the past I have played to both of my Apple TVs at the same time and it worked then.

I thought when casting to the HomePod from iTunes it is streaming it via airplay and not playing directly (from the internet)?

Does anyone recall when Steve Jobs asked:

"Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?"

I'm staying at a hotel for 2 months and was going to buy one today for my birthday...but from what I'm understanding, the HomePod will not work due to me using the hotel internet? I would think it could work because I called the company that provides the internet for the hotel and they have my Xbox to where I don't have to re-login every night

So I happen to be sitting in a Marriott right now this very second listening to my HomePod. So yep, it CAN work, but for me it was not as simple as at home. The issue is that it MUST connect to a WIFI signal, and as someone else pointed out most Hotel's require you to log on to their internet either through your browser or a popup on the wifi connect. The HomePod doesn't know how to navigate around this, and I couldn't figure out how to use the Home App to configure it either.

So the way I got around this was to bring my own wifi router. Is that dedication or what? In my case its a WD MyPassport Wireless Pro... that puts out a WiFi signal with a standard password. You can connect to the WDWP from any IOS device or computer, configure its Wifi to connect to the internet (and since you are in a browser you can negotiate the hotel page), and then for it to broadcast a signal. (this is called bridging). Once there... it was a matter of setting my phone wifi to the WDWP, resetting the HomePod (to forget my home wifi, it apparently can only keep track of one address at a time), pairing the HomePod to my iPhone, share the settings, and ... voila.. it resets and can use the hotel wifi. Phew. And yes, it takes about as long as it sounds... but once set up.. its been good for days. Sometimes I have to use my phone to point the WDWP back to the holel internet, but thats quick.

Clearly there are going to be different solutions, and I suspect if you have found a way for your xbox to work, this will work too without needing additional hardware. They key is resetting the HomePod.

So yeah, bottom line is the HomePod is not really meant to be a portable party machine. Everytime you want to change to a different wifi source it needs to be reset blah blah.

If you asking does Hompod work like Chromecast, then no.... I don't think you can just shut off your internet connected Mac and homepod would still play..

Airplay only (note Apple: That would be a good idea too :) )

You may well disagree with me here :)

But if this were a Microsoft Windows or an Android product, whilst annoying, I'd give it a ton more slack when it comes to being critical.

Microsoft/Windows and Android, have literally thousands of permutations of hardware combinations to try and get all working together. Anything from super high end to a mish mash of parts across god knows how many years.

Apple has total and utter control over everything, Hardware and software all for a premium price tag, as they have the luxury of testing it all in-house with all their own devices before launch.

Given the luxury Apple have, this type of thing really should not be expected.
Apart from the fact they have to connect it to millions of permutations of home networks and there are still folk out there running wep WiFi networks etc. So, for the HomePod, they are in the same boat an ms, etc

Seriously, the Echo Plus set up so easy it was like butter. Reminded me of how Apple stuff used to set up 8 years ago. Apple has their fingers in too many pies right now. Especially this spaceship campus business has to be very disruptive to engineering teams.

You do realize that NOT everyone had an easy set up with Echo/Alexa right? Just like not everyone is having a hard time with HomePods. The majority are lucky enough to not have problems. Now me, setting up my echo dot was about as easy as doing a 1000 piece puzzle and i never got my Sonos One to work, but my HomePod set up right away with me doing almost nothing but waving my phone at it. Shrugs. So yeah, guess i am lucky enough to be in the majority. Doesn't mean I don't feel bad for those with problems. But its silly to think Apple stuff is not easy to set up for most situations.

This speaker is a storm of failures by Apple. Why release such a half-baked speaker. Coming from a company that makes billions every quarter in profit. Apple has managed to dumbify perceptions though as to what good sound is, just like they managed to have millions of people be OK with crappy earbuds on their iphones for years.

Profits over innovation and software. It's the American way.

you want old iOS versions to work with new products?

Why not? (Within Reason)

This should be about application or integration compatibility, not operating system compatibility. i.e. the device should be talking to the Music App and the HomeKit App, which should be available on a number of recent versions of the OS.

I had same issue when I got my Apple Watch (Cellular) recently, to run I had to upgrade my my iPhone 6 onto an OS version (11.2) that essentially crippled it (The much publicized 'battery/slowdown' case). Very frustrating...

This seems again one of those classic issues I keep reading about here.
When I've read some Apple folk don't like the latest iOS version.
Then others saying "well don't upgrade then if you don't want to, no-one is forcing you"

Then we get things like this, which means, whilst an iOS upgrade it not actually forced, is may as well be, ans if you dare to say no to the latest iOS you care going to have problems very soon.

Was going to say the same, but you already did. ;-) But that's just the general issue, writ large. I kept an un-updated 4S for years. It got to the point where no apps would update, and I couldn't install most new apps. It was a fast phone, but almost useless - basically a music-only iPod.

Im no audiophile so I can't speak for the sound quality in that respect but to my ears this sounds the same as my Sonos. I turned it up to 85% and wasn't at all blown away. And the multi-user aspect of it is terrible. Not sure how the average family can use this thing as a smart speaker. Say what you want abot how Apple is positioning it but if it has Siri in it then it's competing in some form against other smart speakers. And it's an embarrassment compared to the competition in that respect. My $30 google home mini can do more than this thing and paired with Sonos the alexa blows this thing away. Mine is definitely going back.

Will be on the fence for a while...

I have a bunch of sonos devices (3*Sonos1, 2*Sonos3,1*Sonos5,1*Playbar) and would contemplate replacing a fair bit of it with the Homepod because from what I can tell the Sonos One voice option doesn't integrate with Apple Music :(

I arrived home Sat nite to find a homepod on the front doorstep. Brought it inside and went out again to walk around the block, setting up Apple Music on my phone on the way. Kind of a weird setup where you name your favorite music groups by tapping on a bunch of circles, but holding down the circle to make it go away forever. When I got home, unboxed and plugged in, the instructions just said "put the phone next to the homepod". So that did its thing, and it got set up. Indicating I must have 2 factor and iCloud keychain set up already. Then, "Hey Siri, play "In a Silent Way by Miles Davis". Perfect. It played the whole album and then, time for bed. Although this thing is not as good as the Acoustic Research speakers I had in college, to be fair I did have two of those. So, when Apple gets two speakers working together I will buy another one. In fact, I can see buying a bigger one as well. Is it time to hear a rumor on how much those are gonna cost?

I ran into the issue where it would say I need to use personal wifi with WPA/WPA2 security. Of course that is what I use so I couldn't understand why it would not setup. After resetting my router and turning off wifi on my phone still got the error. Then I tried turning off auto-join and auto-login. Set up went through without an issue doing that....

While setup was a breeze, the darn thing hasn’t functioned properly for the last two days. Siri keeps stalling and eventually times out no matter the request.
“Hey, Siri turn off bedroom lamp”
“Working on it...”
“I’m having some trouble with this...”
Etc.
Even setting up an alarm causes Siri to stall. I’ve reset the HomePod once so depending on what happened today I may reset once more, otherwise back to Best Buy it goes.

LOL... You HomePod works fine, it is Siri that has issues. It is normal for Siri I guss

Definitely doesn't apply to Amazon.

Well... My two Kindle Papwerwhite and Kindle Tablet disagree with you. All was setup very easily and it came preloaded with my profile. All my books were there and ready to be downloaded. Kindle tablet works just fine for a 70 dollar tablet.

That could be the case. I honestly do not know, but that's what popped into my head when I was trying it out. Tried re-winding the track manually, tried starting from the beginning again, still was a delay. It's possible that the delay could be because of the developer versus beta versions, etc (depending on what you're using). *shrugs* At this point it's pure speculation on my part, I just know that they weren't in sync on my end, and it was worse when one target was bluetooth.

Did you feel you needed to post this? Does not "Some HomePod Owners Still Plagued With Setup Issues" mean that some owners have issues and others (like you) don't?

Are you saying only people having problems with the HomePod should post here?? Thats not how a forum works. Some of us want to see both sides of an issue
