What's that other companies name again? Oh yea! Microsoft - now how long did they support XP for.
which smartphone run Windows XP ?

How do you not notice a performance difference ?

Again you shouldn't have installed iOS 8 on such an old phone like the iPhone 4S since the beginning.
BTW I use iOS 8 on iPad Mini (basically an iPad 2) and it works fine. Not super fast but acceptable. Not going to install iOS 9 on it (we have 60 in our organization)

You need to read my reply to you. Justification is there.

I'm running iOS 9.0.2 on my iPhone 6. Other than sometimes running a tad warm since updating from iOS 8.4.1, I've never had a sudden shutdown issue on my phone--mostly because usually before I update my phone, I shut down all running apps, which may promote a "cleaner" update to the phone.

Apple's target customer is a person who doesn't know/cares about how tech stuff works, even more when we talk about an iOs device. It doesn't have public specs, it doesn't even have a file manager for God's sake. If that person has an iPhone 4s, and Apple says him to update, because the phone tells him so, he does it, because it's Apple and "it just works". For a lot of people the difference between an iPhone 4s and an iPhone 6 are aesthetics, screen size, touch Id and price, just that, they even have the same OS. The reality is that iOs9 has quite some lag on an iPhone 6. I suppose that on a iPhone 5s it is quite bad and 5-4s it is just crap. There is no excuse for this, the only reason being pushing that people to upgrade their devices obviously, which is very legitimate since it's a company with shareholders and so on. But this is a forum, full of naive users as usual, those people who think Apple used 1gb of ram because power efficiency or silly things like that, not for increasing their profit margins.

Went to Applestore and found out that close to half of the iPhones on display got black screen. At first I thought people played with them so much resulting in dead battery, they won't turn on even with power button pressed. Then read this article and then did a hard reset.... Yup, those were auto shutdown units.

Not comfortable upgrading to a phone that requires random hard reset until this is fixed.

Spot on. It's a tactic to get people to upgrade thier devices. If there is a notification on the device telling you to upgrade, the average user assumes they should, as apple is telling them to.

Seems some posters on here either have no idea what lag is, or choose to ignore it, I notice when my device performs slower.

Biggest problem is that you have no idea how badly it will run until you upgrade.

Had this this morning. 6s Plus 128GB White/Silver (C3, Week 37) TSMC A9, iOS 9.1 b3. Took it off the charger this morning and wan't responsive to home button or sleep wake button. Restarted with home/sleep reboot and came back up. Battery was at 100%.
Happened this morning to me as well - 6s, 128GB Pink. Exact same circumstance - took it off the charger, and it wasn't responsive at all. Which is a problem because my phone is also generally my alarm clock. Without any real analysis, I'm blaming iOS9, which so far has felt bloated, crash-prone, and buggy - both on my old 5s, and on my new 6s. This wasn't a good software update for me on either phone.

This used to happen to my iPhone 5s on iOS 8 same with my dad's 5s and my sister's 5s. Hasn't happened since I updated to iOS 9 and a iPhone 6s, I always assumed it was a 5s problem.

The next time this happens to someone, can you try plugging it to a computer and seeing if it is seen by itunes? I think the phone is actually ON and running but not displaying the screen.

Or maybe try calling the phone, or texting it with another device.

Also, if people have the issue, can you post whether or not you put the phone FACE DOWN and if it happened after doing that.

My current theory is that something is going on with the FACE DOWN recognition feature and possibly the motion chip or touchid sensor.

That is interesting thought, the only issue I have had with my 6s is that with the wallet case I have hay seri does not respond with the case closed but when I open it it will work fine.

Yeah, on the profit margins, but I use my iPhone 6 for running synths, and controllers for my digital mixer at gigs and I've never had a problem with it for limited ram. Apple went with a smaller battery and more ram would take more battery?
I think they went with a solution that maximized their profit but that also worked to 95% of their users.
Heh, that 5% that it didn't work for being the safari users with more than 4 tabs open!!

people speak about lag only in forums like this.
In the real world no-one could complain about an iPhone 6, but even about an iPhone 5S.
This forum doesn't represent the real world, since it is full of picky tech geeks looking for every single, invisible issue (actually there are real people with real issues or seeking for advices, but there are some serial complainers here ...).
If I give my iPhone 6 to my wife, or my cousin or my uncle, he/she can't complain about anything.
You see lag.

Troll much. I have zero problem with 5 iOS devices in my house: Air, Mini2, 6, 6+ and 6s+...so, just shut up.

clearly you don't get out much.....when someone says there waiting for iOS [current version + 1] it's obviously a joke

try leaving your mom's basement some day and get some fresh air

Why is it junk? I think it's great…

I can't stand the people who say 1gb was enough just because they don't use their iPhones. I paid 1000 euros for my iPhone. It's an expensive phone, and it's ok if you want to use it just for whatsapp and taking photos, but there is no excuse for a 1000 euros phone not to be able to navigate the web.

It doesn't take a super strange and complicated combo for the 1gb iphones to fail. You have whatsapp opened, twitter, safari with 2 tabs -being financial times and your bank account for example-, and a real time investing info app, like bloomberg for example. This is a very logical and not unusual combo as you could suppose. You have whatsapp opened, well, because you use it all the time, you have twitter opened because you take a look from time to time, and the rest is just a newspaper and an on the go stock market operation combo. It is NOT able to manage that, the 1000 euros high end smartphone from the high end brand. The bank account will be reloading and closing your session, which is frustrating, everytime you go from bloomberg to safari.

It's 2015, am I supposed to need to carry my laptop everywhere for doing simple things like this? Well, the iPad Air 2 does it perfectly, because it has 2 gb of RAM. And they knew it, but by doing it this way I'll be upgrading to the iPhone 6s; so, money, money, money... that's the only reason. And there is nothing wrong with wanting money, but please don't invent exotic excuses for such a simple thing... it doesn't matter if a lot of its buyers use their phone very lightly, it's still a top of the range phone, it should be able to manage everyone's needs. I'm quite sure most rMBP buyers use them basically for listening to music, managing their mobile devices and navigating the web. But even so, rMBP can manage to run final cut pro X, adobe pro software, again, even if almost none %lly will use it. Because they're high end.

Think Apple need to finalise OS at least 1month before launch. This releasing of buggy op systems then rushing out fixes is not the way of the company Jobs built

Times change. Companies change how they do things. You know that if Jobs were still alive that things would be different? And how do you know that? How do you know that if Jobs was still at the helm that things wouldn't have changed? You people always think that if Jobs was still there, none of the issues of today would exists. NONSENSE. Jobs wasn't perfect and plenty of system errors, etc existed with him also. As great as he was, it's time to give up the ghost and accept today for what it is. Not always perfect, and the past wasn't perfect either.

But but but the man knew how to hold a phone.

I don't know about shutting down but I do know about the absolutely horrible battery life on the 6s

I thought the same thing until I got the 6s, the 2 gb of ram does make a difference.
