I had this happen once on my 14 Pro several months ago. Never turned back on, just woke up to a turned-off phone (and missed my alarm).

It’s doubtful that the affected phones crash and shut down for an hour or so then reboot. What’s more likely happening is that the OS crashes unexpectedly and restarts instantly automatically (iOS respring).
But the battery activity doesn’t register - so there appears to be a long dead spot in the battery usage graph.

I always avoid the .x versions, those are really bad.

IPhone 9 in particular was dead in the water. It really didn't sell at all, I think.
my iPhone 9 kept doing this so I put it in the toilet after it shut off during the night and when it woke itself up in the morning I noticed it had turned itself into a natural platinum 32tb iphone ultra turbo max 19

naturally I immediately started charging it via USB7, and everyone cheered

Not to worry everyone, for Apple Support has provided an update! This is not an issue, because if it was, Apple Support would know about it before it ever affected a single customer because Apple Support talks to millions of customers a minute. So, to address this known issue, you’ll need to restart your phone. If the issue persists, you’ll need to erase and reinstall using iTunes. If the issue still persists, you’ll need to do an RTA to Engineering, who will get back to you in 48 hr to tell you they are aware of the issue, keep your device up to date, and no further troubleshooting will be provided.

Oh, and thank you for being an Apple customer and we hope you enjoy the ALL NEW iPhone 15, the most powerful, most advanced iPhone Apple has ever released!
Haha! That’s the typical response I get from the useless Apple Support.

I'm thinking the same thing also.
I bet the Battery usage graph only registered again once we picked up the phone to enter the passcode to unlock.

It’s like the auto start/stop in vehicles - Apple is just doing their part to reduce carbon emissions.

My iPhone 15pro 17.0.3 has rebooted in the middle of the night twice in the last 7 days.

Two days ago the same, on iOS 17.0.3 and iPhone 15 Pro – I was wondering why I had to enter the code. Later the day I just checked the battery, because the phone is new and if there are some problematic apps and saw this huge gap in the night! I don’t remember but like 2-3 hours definitely.

Horrible when the alarm would reset (did not happen for me though) – but as a 40+ man I would not need the alarm anyways =) *typing at 4AM here

I had this issue with the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year, after reaching out apple support, they replaced it with a new phone.
Same, with an iPhone 14 Pro. Happened about a week into my new phone at the time. Apple replaced it no questions asked and I haven’t seen it happen again since.

My guess is the device restarts at the time it goes dark.
The tracking is probably a user spaced process and therefore isn't launched or can't track battery and screen until someone logs into the phone, by you the customer unlocking the phone.

Similar issue happened to me last week. iPhone 13 running iOS 16. It is almost always on Do Not Disturb, I make a big deal of checking before going to sleep every night. Around 8AM (I was on vacation and sleeping in) the phone starts vibrating like crazy, not the normal vibrate pattern, from a BLOCKED NUMBER! The screen showed the moon symbol while it was ringing, and the number still showed as blocked when I went into recent calls, but somehow it got through. I was SO upset because I have trouble sleeping, and was actually sleeping well on this short trip away. Next time I go on vacation, the phone is getting shut off every night!

Happened to me. Phone turned off, almost like the battery disappeared in the chart. Didn't make any difference to me though because the phone was charged to 80% (I set it to use that limit) when I woke up in the morning.

My 14 Pro Max running 17.0.3 hasn't turned off, but has restarted a few times in the last week. Restarted last night at about 4am. Heard my charging chime and had to re enter passcode for the StandBy to start. Thankfully I have a backup alarm I always set.
