Stuff like this is why I wait until December to change versions
Just out of curiosity, is it a normal alarm? The Sleep’s bed time alarm?I had this exact issue, was so confused with why my iPhone was shut off, thank God I had my HomePod, iPad, and Mac alarm (that rang this one time). (iOS 17.1 on iPhone 14 Pro, didn’t happen in the .0 betas)
That could be what it’s happening, instead of a soft crash that sends the phone back to home screen… it’s crashing so badly that it restarts the whole phone. When the OS crashes, it automatically ‘resprings’. That’s why they are starting up again
Interesting theory. I did have this happen to me once last week where I woke up in the morning and it asked me to enter my password due to a restart. Later that day I enabled the 80% max battery feature and haven't had it happen since.Had this happen to me on a 14 Plus, woke up this morning and had to enter my passcode in with the message about it needing to enter it again after the phone restarted. I wonder if it turned off after getting to 100% charge status.
If a new iOS running iPhone reboots at some point once, that could easily be a RSR (Rapid Security Response). Good time to do it when the user is not using it in the middle of the night. There appears to be a curious phenomenon that is causing some iPhone models to turn off temporarily at night, which can interrupt alarms and other iPhone features.
Rapid Security Responses are a new type of software release for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. They deliver important security improvements between software updates—for example, improvements to the Safari web browser, the WebKit framework stack, or other critical system libraries. They may also be used to mitigate some security issues more quickly, such as issues that might have been exploited or reported to exist "in the wild."
New Rapid Security Responses are delivered only for the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, starting with iOS 16.4.1, iPadOS 16.4.1, and macOS 13.3.1.
Unless you wait a couple of months to buy your new iPhone so you’ll have a more stable version to update to right after you turn it on.This happened to me on Monday night/Tuesday morning. When I woke up, my phone asked for my passcode and the Wi-Fi was off. Luckily it didn't affect my alarms - but it could have done. This is clearly not in any way an isolated issue. It's a massive issue.
In addition to my alarm complication on the Watch saying 'no alarms' when there are, the Today tile in Reminders showing zero reminders when there are some, the iCloud Reminders widget stripping repeating data from reminders, and Find My telling me I have left things behind at locations where I have told it not to remind me, everything's going great with iOS17.
What a mess.......
Next year I'm not going to update to iOS18 until at least iOS18.2.... - but if I get a new phone, I'll have no choice.
Ha, ha. I remember it well - but I didn't rely on it to wake me up in the morning.....It’s like ya’ll didn’t use Window 98 back in the day.
We have to adjust to the fact that we are the real beta testers. There's clearly not enough time in the actual beta testing process to sort everything out.Unless you wait a couple of months to buy your new iPhone so you’ll have a more stable version to update to right after you turn it on.
My iPad Pro 2021 rebooted the night before too. Fortunately not my iPhone.
both are on 17.0.3.
This is happening to me, too. Seems like the last 2 nights my iPhone has shut off and I've missed my alarms. It appears that last night my iPhone shut off for quite some time before it powered back on. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

In a thread on Reddit, a user complains that two separate iPhone alarms in his home failed to go off. Several other users also chimed in with similar issues, and it turns out that some of the issues could be linked to the iPhone turning off at night. From Reddit:Some other people noted having to put in their passcodes in the morning, an indication that the iPhone restarted or shut off during the night. 9to5Mac highlighted these issues earlier this week, and we've also experienced the problem here at MacRumors, as have multiple users on the MacRumors forums. From MacRumors:You can tell if your iPhone turned off at night by opening up the Settings app, navigating to Battery, and checking the charging status over the past 24 hours. If there's a gap, the iPhone was turned off for a period of time.
The problem affects iPhone 15 models, but it is also impacting other devices, suggesting that it's something in iOS 17. Not all users are experiencing the shutdown issues, nor does it appear to be happening every night.
It is not yet clear what is going on, and Apple has not commented.

This time they might replace 80% of the populations phone if i read the comments. And they will still call it only a small number of people.I had this issue with the iPhone 14 Pro Max last year, after reaching out apple support, they replaced it with a new phone.
