I don't have that issue, probably cause I have a public beta tester IOS 12.1.
Anyway I don't think these is a big deal.

What exactly am I over-exaggerating? Did you even read the article or watch the video? I’ve seen this issue casually mentioned multiple times in unrelated threads and didn’t think anything of it. How that I see how widely reported it is, with threads all over the place, and see it in action where 5 out of 8 phones had the issue (and one didn’t even charge at all), yes this is absolutely a serious problem right now. People are accustomed to their phones charging when they plug them in (weird, I know), and not everyone has a wireless charger or would think to wake their phone every time just to charge it. Even then, sometimes it stops charging (or never starts at all). For you to even suggest this isn’t a big deal, that’s pure apologist speak.

I don’t care if it’s software or hardware, the bottom line is it’s a problem. For you to downplay it just because you don’t like the guy, that’s just plain petty and silly. I personally can’t stand the overall anti-Apple sentiment on his channel, but that doesn’t discount the fact that this issue needs attention.

I’m not downplaying anything and if you think I am you’re obviously not paying attention

Its a big deal sure, I never said it wasn’t and you’re putting words in my mouth. But it’s not a serious issue unless it’s hardware or it doesn’t charge at all. 5 out of 8 phones? Where are you getting bull stats like that because I’ve seen most people say they don’t have a problem. If you’re gna get stats from a forum about the issue obviously the results are gna be screwed towards more people having the problem.

I’m not downpaying it, of course it’s a problem that’s needs attention, every bug and problem deserves to be fixed, but your acting like I said it’s no biggie when I CERALY didn’t and you’re antagonizing me for it. I siad it’s a big deal, but not a serious problem yet, it’s a difference in words and you’re completely over reacting to my view on it because a few damn words

Back on the actual topic of this thread, my iPhone X is having trouble charging as well. I normally leave it on my RavPower wireless charger all night. This morning I picked it up to find it had 30% charge on it. I put it back on the charger and it started charging again. I came back to it a couple hours later to find it had stopped charging again at 50%.

Ehh not 100% true. Just look at the 2011 15 and 17” MacBook Pros. They had GPU problems that, while a board replacement fixed the issue in the short term, ended up rearing their ugly head again.
You’re right. But I don’t see Apple 2018 doing this.

Actually, 90% of this thread is speculation. Let’s see what Apple does to solve the problem. Steve Jobs is gone, so no “you’re using it wrong”

This is why I would wait till a revision 1.01 of the hardware starts to ship. Probably some tiny smd capacitor etc.. It seems some are fine which probably is a QC issue with how the units with issues are build (slightly out of value capacitor etc?)

In a month or so the next batch will probably be consistent in QC while the first group will probably have some software fix to force charging via glitching the HW every so often.

Some people are reporting this issue with older devices on ios12...

What actually happened was the Republic of Ireland was ordered to collect the taxes that Apple allegedly owes. No one was fined. That suggests taking money off someone they previously did not owe. The tax arrangements were declared as a form of illegal state aid and so the guilty party is actually the Republic of Ireland, not Apple.

Yeah, you're right, they were indeed ordered to collect the money, probably had a brainfart earlier on today.

The issue is consistently reproducible with my iPhone X's and XS's on iOS 12. One X actually goes as far to end up not charging no matter how many times I plug it in until I make use of the device. I think this is some sort of charging circuit suspend state bug because I can still plug it in and get data transfer through iTunes despite not indicating the phone is charging and also displaying the message 'Unlock iPhone to use Accessories'.

I ordered an iPhone XS Max on the UK Apple store and when it arrived I couldn’t charge it via the lightning port at all. I tried 5 different power sources and three differnt lightning cables, OEM and 3rd party on both counts. Locked, unlocked, didn’t matter. It does charge wirelessly. I’ve contacted Apple for a replacement.

To be honest, it's kinda sad that most people here resort to the "It's $2,000 so it should be perfect".
That shows that most of you do not buy luxury goods often. Being $2k does not mean that it's going to be perfect. Nothing is perfect. Yes that bug is annoying, but what really matters is how and how long it's going to take for Apple to fix the issue.
I constantly buy what people would consider luxury goods, and sometimes defects happens. What matters is that they replace the good/fix it (even 4-5 years after I've bought it), whereas if I would get the same issues at, let's say H&M, they'd probably just laugh and do nothing about it.

Also, remember that Apple will probably patch this in the next week or so, whereas if this issue was happening with an Android device, it could take up to two months before it would be patched so... Let that sink it.

I’ve been using an iPhone X for about a year now and have never plugged it in to charge and have always charged wirelessly. Never had an issue. Maybe people with phones that are affected by the wired charging issue could just charge wirelessly till this issue is solved with an update?

Glad to see everybody got to tee off with some faux outrage on Apple. I quit reading at #gate.
