I was having this exact problem a few days ago before even installing the update on a year old iMac. It seems to have corrected itself though.

Just did a fresh install on my mid 2011 Air this afternoon and am having this problem. Didn't realize how much I use messages on the computer until now. This better get fixed soon.

I feel like Apple has lost its edge. Sure MacBooks are pretty, but the recent HP business class looks good too.

Apple no longer "just works". Release stuff when it's ready, not like this. Yes, technology Is more complicated now vs Snow Leopard. Go back to the drawing board and be great again.

Just tried - did not work. I entered those commands in Terminal, immediately rebooted, then tried logging into Messages again once the reboot was finished - no change.
Thanks for the test.

I did a restore from CCC earlier to get back to normal, and didn't want to wipe again, unless it did work.

hmm I haven't seen this issues since a clean install of 10.11.4 both are logged in and working normally for me. I have the two stage verification on in icloud.

I will do some testing on another mac to see if it happens on it and report back and if I see anything that may help

Can someone explain how you're supposed to get a resolution when your issue is elevated to "engineering"? I have an issue open from December that I was told I would be contacted about within a week. Never happened. The senior advisor that "owns" the case number doesn't reply to my emails. Speaking to others just say that only she can do anything about it.

It's my only negative experience with Apple Support, but it's pretty bad and really disappointing.

I had issue's with my brand new imac 395x config, bluetooth was disabled. I had to reset with option/command P+R.
Also, i have some weird screen displaying when logging in. When trying out the beta, i had the same issue's

I feel like Apple has lost its edge.

Percentage of Apple software/hardware releases/updates since 1976 that have had NO issues... 0

Percentage of Apple software/hardware releases/updates since 1976 which have elicited comments that Apple has gone downhill... 100

Not sure the difference between "update" vs "fresh install" ... From what Im reading, I don't think I've ever done a fresh install... is that bad?

is that bad?

This is why I hold off on upgrades. I did the upgrade to Yosemite way back when it first came out and my MacBook Pro was useless. Good thing I had a good time machine back up to Do a complete restore from or I would have had a huge mess on my hands

A fresh perspective never shared before on MacRumors, thank you!

From my dabbling with Hackintoshes (which I gave up with, as their hardware whitelisting has been getting more aggressive than I have time to keep up with) I'd hazard a guess that they were trying to shut out more of those and got so hot on it they ended up blocking actual legit hardware in the crossfire. I know the iMessage/Facetime login system was already extremely heavily safeguarded - you have to jump through all sorts of hoops cloning ID strings from disused Macs etc. They've probably just taken it to DRM levels (where their aggression hurts legit customers)

I have had this problem with imessage and facetime on desktop since el capitan. Apple support helped me over several nights trying various things, included sharing screen so they could see and direct, none of which have worked. They both work fine on Ios, though.
