Also began experiencing the same issue after I had to erase my hard drive (due to a completely unrelated issue) and reinstall the OS from scratch. Was able to log into all my old accounts/services EXCEPT for iMessages and FaceTime. Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this bug. Anyone been able to come up with a workaround?

I wonder what 3rd party software folks have installed, and if some of those could be causing issues. No it's not an excuse, but is it possible that 3rd party chat software could cause this. I only have 4 non-Apple pieces of software and I am not having any issues on this or any other updates on my iMac.

I had no third party software installed after my clean install. As soon as I finished the install, I tried to log into the two services mentioned and could not.

Got this issue as well after wiping and reinstalling. The seeds didnt have an issue for me. I also noted that my computer isnt listed in "find my iphone" on icloud.com, but is shown there in my devices.

I opened a ticket with Applecare today about this.

If you have the time and energy, please try to change your Apple ID pw on the web and log in with the new pw on your computer iCloud to see if that makes a difference.

No it doesnt

this is why i NEVER update any apple devices when it gets pushed. Apple's QA team is a joke.

How are they "a joke"? The very nature of bugs means that they often only exhibit themselves AFTER deployment of software. The best debugging team in the world isn't as thorough a test as having many tens/hundreds of millions of people kicking the tyres. They would be worse if they never FIXED the bugs, but hey - they put a LOT of work into doing so. Do you think they consciously, purposely released this update *knowing* this problem existed?

wow. I think not.

One of the "selling" points for Apple was "they do both software and the hardware." The elvel of quality assurance testing has fallen with all the major bugs released as of late. We will never know if they knowingly released knowing the problem existed, however, knowing the nature of testing and pushing the product as fast as they can out to the public, I would bet it wasn't thoroughly tested. Working for Apple for many many years I can say, issues were overlooked on purpose and known only to come to light and admitted when pushed for answers publicly or in court. So I would vote yes it was known and overlooked because it wouldnt affect the majority.

Why are you quoting me as having said things I haven't said? You may like to fix that ;) thanks.

I hadn't even thought to check if my computer shows up on Find My iPhone...upon checking my computer indeed does NOT show up on Find My iPhone.

during the setup from a clean install did anyone try logging into icloud then or after the setup finished?

I logged into icloud after setup finished as I kept getting errors during the setup process.

this may or may not help

Also wondering which country that most people seem to be affected in may also have something to do with the issue. I am in Australia and I am logged in once logged into my icloud account this is after a full erase and clean install of 10.11.4

I actually had this problem on my early 2008 Mac Pro after update from Yosemite to 10.11.3. iMessage/FaceTime worked for a little while (perhaps the first 30 minutes), and then nothing since. Apple support told me ultimately that I should reinstall OS X. Did that, no dice. Who really knows. It's obnoxious, but it's been so long since I've had the services that I don't miss them anymore. Sad.

I upgraded to 10.11.4 on my early-2011 17" MBP using the combo updater. Just now opened Messages and it asked for my Apple ID credentials, which I don't remember having had to do before. It then listed only one contact in the left-hand pane and displayed a message thread from another contact. I then quit the app and re-launched it, and all my contacts were there, but there were no recent messages displayed--the latest one was at least 8 months old! Subsequent quits/relaunches haven't helped. Weird....

Too many tin foil hats expecting perfection and not thinking things through.

1) El Capitan is free (I know some say incl. in cost of buying Macs etc.)
2) They keep working on making it better and better. A bug fix is coming almost immediately. Guaranteed. But, needs to be analyzed.
3) There are millions of Macs out there with different memory set ups, ssd, hd. drivers, printers, scanners, apps, utilities and whatever configurations.

I am not defending Apple, but if you are on you umpteenth version of operating systems you should have LEARNED BY NOW to WAIT!!

Let the pioneers get the arrows in their butts and then when the air is clear, you update.

A business friend just wrote me when a projected plan didn't happen:

No plan survives first contact with the enemy.

Amen to this rationale.

I did another clean install to fix all bugs. :D

Apple should have learned to wait releasing an OS when it's ready.

This is why I'm never one of the first people to install updates. I was planning on giving iOS 9.3 a try later on, but this is giving me second thoughts.

I'm astounded something as basic as this was not discovered in testing. Do they think everyone will update instead of doing fresh installs? Did they not even bother to test this on a brand new Mac before shipping it out the door with 10.11.4?

I'm sure they tested it. The things is, this is only a problem with some users that appears some of the time. I didn't have this issue, and it's possible none of their test machines had this issue. It might be a problem on the server's side, since this problem is appearing on all Apple devices, old and new; mac or iOS.

Saw 10.11.4 as the best time to do a clean install of OS X to get rid of old cruft that had built up so I did a clean install - what a stupid idea that was. 4 hours last night of dealing with it believing that I had done something or my network configuration on the router had gone up the shoot and around the bend.

The issue is the fact that Apple had months and various builds to sort out these sorts of bugs - this is why Apple needs to not only offer updates they also need to offer slipstreamed builds to ensure that there is no regressions between combo/delta and slipstreamed version they provide on the App Store for those who want to create a USB book drive and conduct a clean install. In all due respects, this isn't some corner case obscure feature that 5% of end users use but a corner stone of the Apple iCloud ecosystem and to not get it 'right' with the amount of testing that was done I have to ask whether Apple developers are actually taking on board feedback or is this whole public beta testing nothing more than a giant charade to give the appearance that they give a crap about software quality.

It appears that Apple has finally updated their system status - 24+ hours after the problems started to occur. Do their system admins only work from 9 to 5 and aren't on alert when the excrement hits the fan?

Hi guys, sorry if this it's not the thread but i got a questions call it Split View in El Capitan.
Look, i remembered with the betas that u can split the iTunes in full screen with the mini player and that for me was awesome, very confortable to use it. But, with news betas and the final version of Capitan, it seems that this feature with iTunes not worked anymore. I don't know if I'm miss something in the options but again, that for me was what i want for iTunes because a listening a lot music there. Thanks guys.

day-old rmbp 13", no facetime, no imessage, no keychain. Problem existed in .3, so i upgraded to .4 but it persists.

I gather it is normal for them to not officially acknowledge it? The support lady I spoke to was unaware of the issue but said it could be due to the servers being overloaded due to software updates.
