Had this issue with my gf's phone a couple hours after I picked up mine. Update to 11.1 and a restart did not solve it.

Called AT&T, was asked for the IMEI & SIM #, solved within 5 mins after.

This is really not a major issue.

I don't know why people are acting like this is the end of the world. Just breath and try to activate your phones in a few hours. No sense in getting all worked up about an issue you have no control over.
Because now some people (like myself) have no working phone in the meantime..

Same issues on AT&T here. I've been hitting "Try Again" over and over, finally cot to a page to confirm my phone number and then I entered back into the vortex!!! :(
Same here. Gets to phone number then starts all over again.

Yes. Agreed that probably happened. But, Apple should have seen evidence that the systems were benchmarked to their specs. It's kind of like a popsicle manufacturer just loading product into distributor trucks without checking if they're refrigerated.

Wouldn't surprise me if Apple was aware of AT&T's activation capacity and let AT&T know there would likely be an issue.

It's then up to AT&T to do something about it. Or not.

But what are you going to do about it....nothing you can do. Sure you can call in and complain, but do you really expect any CSR to actually help with this issue....

i wouldnt do that... that will deactivate your old phone and activate the new one but you will be still stuck in the activation loop and have no access to a working phone...

I can attest to the statement above. This will (or did for me) “successfully activate” the X (not really, but according to the webpage) but also deactivates your current phone.

I’m now left with no cellular on my old 7, and the “try again” loop on my X. Granted it sounds like people are having their old phones deactivated with the regular method as well, but mine was working until I tried the ATT activation site.

Still not activating for me on the X, and no cellular on my old one.... hope it clears up soon.... frustrating.

My iPhone X showed up about a half-hour ago, and I've been staring at this error ever since. iTunes just shows a blank screen that says, "iPhone"; at one point it loaded an AT&T screen where I could enter my zip and social but after clicking "continue" it never went anywhere.

Pretty much exactly the same for me. Every once in a while it asks me to confirm my phone number but then goes right back to "Could not activate iPhone". Bummer.

I’m in hour 3 of this loop, now with no working phones (they manually deactivated the old one, but the new one still didn’t come on). Arg.

I'm having the same problem. I asked them to waive the activation feel and they agreed. Worth a shot. I was told to try again in an hour.

Just got to the part where it says confirm the number and then it goes back to waiting. What a let down after a day of waiting to get home from work and do this.

iPhone X won't activate and had already called AT&T to have them force activate. So my old phone has no service and my new phone won't activate. BUT the sim is already activated on AT&T's end!

I'm on the phone right now w/ AT&T talking to a senior something or other, and he just told me that the problem lies in Apple's activation software, and that they're having to manually enter IMEI numbers to activate phones on the phones. No idea if any of that is true or not, but I was told it could take "up to 72 hours" to clear the backlog of phones to be activated.

Glad I'm not alone.. If anyone finds a solution (more like if AT&T find a solution and you notice) please update!

Could be. I always thought that Apple should have bought one of the carriers do control the distribution/access chain. But, telcos burn cash. May be better to keep that off the balance sheet.
