I didn't even bother swapping sims with my old phone. I just called T-Mobile so they could activate the new sim card that came with the phone and das it.

I am using my old sim, and it will not activate. This is not a ATT issue as the SIM is already active. This is a communication issue between Apple and AT&T

I'll be calling Verizon to let them know that the $30 activation fee will be waived, whether they pretend like they can do that or not.

Many, if not all having this issue. Good job Apple.
Not sure if may are indeed having this issue. I was able to activate and setup my iPhone in a matter of minutes.

I pre-ordered my phone and picked it up at the store this morning. Later after lunch, and after the crazy frenzy of work, I sat down to sup the phone. Mine is a verizon version. As a started the process, it just asked me to bring my old phone close to this one and it brought over the necessary information, letting me later to chose if I'd like to setup as a new phone or restore from a backup.

I chose setup as a new phone and everything from there on was buttery smooth!

Once I got to the try again screen I plugged the phone into iTunes and the “welcome to your new iPhone” screen came up and asked how I wanted to set up. I selected to restore from backup and did that, but never was prompted for any activation stuff and now I just have a phone that has all my data and stuff on it but it’s not activated with At&T. Any idea how to get back to the activation process?

Turned phone off and on. Still waiting.

Does having my old iPhone in effect activating the X? Cause maybe it sees the number is already in use?

On a chat with AT&T, they suggest going to att.com/activations

As I mentioned earlier, while this may say it worked, in my experience, it will most certainly deactivate your current device, regardless of activating your X.

I did the above method, no service on my old phone, X is on the try again loop. My old one was still activated before I went to the activation website.

Proceed with caution.

went to att.com/activate and entered in my phone number and zip code.

site says "ACT107 : Looks like there aren't any numbers eligible for activation on the associated account."

att blows.

Hang in there everyone! After retrying 200 times, and failing on the phone number screen 5 times, I JUST got a successful activation

Edit: This is Verizon
