This was mentioned in the 14.2 patch notes. It's a software bug that's been fixed. Update to the beta and it'll get fixed.

Seriously big fail.
Actually, no, it doesn’t fix these issues.
I’ve had 14.2 beta for a while and I has not fixed any of my issues.

There's a new Apple support document on it. Here's the relevant part:

1. If you have outmoded Qi wireless chargers that do not work with your iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, dump them in a landfill.

2. Purchase the Apple MagSafe Charger.

3. Purchase the Apple 20W USB-C Power Adapter.

4. Purchase a carbon offset so that Apple remains carbon neutral.

Which beta though? There were quite a few, maybe you are talking earlier betas. Numbers are important

I had to reboot mine to charge on any of my Qi devices. Tried on 4! Took the iPhone 12 back now anyway. Using my iPhone X again and barely noticing the difference

Probably a bug with the optimize charging setting. Usually if it invokes optimized charging you'd get an alert at least that it's going to do that.

iOS 14.2 fixes this.
I wish this comment made it to MR editors before they posted this article. Hopefully they update this article to prevent misinformation/confusion.

EDIT: Looks like they updated the post to reflect this. I suppose many folks may not update to 14.2 before facing this issue, so hopefully this helps info helps them.

I have 2 Ankers. The more expensive power wave 7.5 doesn’t work while the cheaper 5w works. I have a no name Watoe that was working, but stopped working while my iPhone was in Low power mode. All 3 work flawlessly with my iPhone X. I’ve done a power cycle, soft restart, and factory reset. Problems still exist. Hoping 14.2 fixes.

The heading should have been " Some Iphone 12 not working with Qi Chargers". I don't think it is fault of Qi chargers.

I have this same problem with my wireless charging AirPods. The wireless charging pad that powers our iPhone 8 & iPhone X doesn't charge my AirPods.

Good to see Nomad still standing behind their products.
Actually I'm quite disappointed with Nomad. 1. Their chargers info page still showing compatibility for all iPhones (not a single mention to the issues). They are aware since others and I had sent several emails. 2. The really expensive Base Station Pro, received a beta firmware that allow the charge of an iPhone 12 in SIX HOURS. I know that technology can change quickly, but they should display some warning in the products page and offer a refund or replacement program.

I have not had an issue with my no-name clock radio/charger, but lots of issues with the in-car charger in our 2020 Ford Explorer ST. My XR, in a case, worked perfectly since we got the car several months ago. But the 12, with a case, would start then stop and the car would indicate there was an alignment problem. It did seem to work OK when I tried it without a case, so I'm hoping this software update will solve the problem.

My iPhone 12 Pro with the silicone case will not charge wirelessly in my PhoneSoap.

It still will with my Anker charging pad.

I haven't tried 14.2 yet.

The wireless charger I use on my XS Max does not work on my 12
Which one? I've been using this Belkin "Boost Up" charger for 2 years on my XS Max, no issues. Hoping this will work with 12 Pro Max.

I just love some of the usual apologist posts saying it couldn't possibly be Apple's fault that some 3rd party Qi chargers don't work with their latest phones.

Apple themselves claim the iPhone 12s are compatible with the Qi standard.

So as long as the 3rd party charger adheres to the standard.......... just saying it is possible its Apple's issue, especially as iOS 14.2 has mention of this... SMH.

If a charging mat can be knocked out of commission because of software issues, that really just sounds like more reason to stick to cable charging...
Cable charging could be knocked out of commission because of software issues too, it's just less likely to happen.

That makes to of us. My base station pro hasn’t worked right as long as I have owned it. And that was before I got my 12. I updated it and am hoping everything will be resolved but I doubt it. Where did you read it would take 6 hours.

Good thing I only charge overnight. But the whole time I’ve had the thing if more then one phone is on it they both start and stop charging repeatedly and chime all night. I’m hoping the update resolved that issue

It’s one I got on Amazon that charges both the iPhone and the Apple Watch. I think the brand is Mangotek
