I just love some of the usual Apple hate posts saying it's Apple's fault that some 3rd part Qi chargers don't work with their latest phone. SMH.
Ummm you understand QI charging isn’t an Apple technology? It’s an open standard that Apple and many others use much like USB C.
So yes, we expect QI to work.

Both my unbranded combo stands don’t work. It not that won’t work it’s that they don’t align. If I held it in position it does work!! Slightly higher than the Xs Max.

Updated: have found that my wife’s works without a case on

It’s not as simple as 5 watt chargers work and 7.5 watt chargers don’t. My 7.5w Mophie and 5w Nomad (which I would have sworn was 7.5w) both work reliably, but my 7.5w Taotronic combo charger/desk lamp doesn’t. It’s also the only one that won’t charge my airpods. So I’m thinking there is a hardware incompatibility and a software patch won’t be the solution.
Never mind on that last part. The next post debunks that theory.

he MacRumors forums has a list of chargers that don't appear to be working with the iPhone 12 such as the Zens Liberty Wireless Charger, the Mophie Charge Stream Pad+, the Nomad Base Station Stand, and the Mophie 3-in-1 wireless charging stand. There are also complaints about some Anker wireless chargers.
Good news is I'm on iOS 14.3 and the Mophie 3-in-1 is working.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm using the regular 3-in-1, not the 3-in-1 stand which is the one effected.

I’ll just add my experience with a Holife “fast charge” vertical stand type charger. iPhone 12 mini 14.1 and no joy. It is briefly recognised, then will usually quickly become unrecognised. Moving the phone about seems to work for a while, but actually no charge seems to go in either way.

I think we are definitely on to something with the 7.5W being the problem. I have a wireless charger that came with a 24W adapter. It used to charge my iPhone 11 Pro Max at 7.5W, now when I put my 12 Pro Max it stops charging after a few seconds. However, if I used the old 5W Apple adapter instead it works just fine.

My belkin 2 in 1 didn’t work last night either...so used magsafe instead. seems only way to get it to know it will work

Strange that the Nomad Pro Basestation isn’t compatible because I have a Nomad Base Station Apple Watch Edition and mine works fine with my iPhone 12 Pro. 🤔
Does yours work with the apple case on? Im thinking of getting a basestation pro to replace my Belkin that won't work with 12

Yes, mine works fine with my iphone 12 Pro + Apple leather case. I have the nomad base station with integrated apple Watch charger. I bought it a couple of years ago but it still Works great!

iPhone 12 Max w/iOS 14.2.1 & Mophie 3-in-1 stand not charging. Have tried Apple case w/MagSafe, Otterbos Symmetry, and w/o a case. Changing position of phone doesn’t help.

I have 3 of the Ubio Labs stands from Costco. They have been flawless with different cases with our XS max‘S for over a year. Just got 3 iPhone 12 PM and do not work with case but somewhat work without a case.

Got my iPhone 12 Mini charging on a cheap, Chinese no-name Qi charger, 5V 1.5A output. Powered by an Apple brick, 5V 1A output.

14.2 didn’t fix it. 14.2.1 didn’t fix it. The only thing that did was fully powering off the phone, then placing it on the Qi, which woke and started up the phone and continued charging it. Now it charges fine every time I drop it on the Qi, even with the “Optimised Battery Charging” setting on.

Been having an issue with my standard 12.

I’ve used cheeotech chargers since the 8. Always worked flawlessly.

The 12 took ages to get aligned correctly. So I bought the cheeotech dual one. Alignment was easy but I noticed when I woke up the phone not charged. Three nights in a row.

So I switched to a stand charger. Same thing.

It’s as though it get to the 80% for optimised charging then just doesn’t kick back in.

I don’t want MagSafe as I’m not interested in fast charging.

So not really sure what to get now to charge my phone properly 🤷‍♀️

Did you try updating to latest iOS, then powering down phone, and then when it's fully off - placing on the wireless charger?

Same problem with my wife's 12 mini and Belkin 15W wireless charger (WIA002) and I can confirm using the 5W Apple power supply got it working.

My phone auto updates to the latest iOS.

And no I haven’t tried turning off and placing on the charger when off etc.

I’ve got back to cable charging till it’s sorted out.

I just picked up the iPhone 12 Pro Max this weekend, with an Apple Silicon case.
I have 2 Samsung wireless fast charger, one flat, one stand and a Belkin one.
They all worked perfect with my (and my wife's) iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Putting the phone on each of them, the phone instantly buzzes like it is charging but I have left them on over a 1/2 hour and the charge % does not change.
Is it fixable with an iOS update, do I need to change the charging plugs?
I won't be happy if I have to replace everything with an overpriced MagSafe device.

This is all very disappointing. I bought a Nomad base station Apple Watch Edition, the newest incarnation, and it worked great out of the box with my iPhone 12. Last night the 12 wouldn’t charge on it, while my S5 AW did. Force rebooted the 12 and it charges again. This is a software issue that Apple needs to address.

The discussion of power supplies made me wonder if that was the problem I was having with my Holife wireless charger - although I was already using an Apple 5W brick that many seem to be finding success with. I’d previously used this to charge my iPhone 8 just fine, but the 12 wasn’t having it. Last night I tried using an old Apple 10W brick (from an iPad 2 iirc) and that seems to have done the trick.

Now, this could be a case of user error, as I just checked the underside on the Holife and it does say “5V 2A input” which I had apparently not been providing. Still, it had been working fine with the 8, and as it didn’t come with a brick of its own that implied to me that any standard USB supply ought to work. I’d be interested to hear if anyone else finds this to be the problem.

Yep, I think you are on to something! Tested briefly with my MacBook Air 30W power supply and seems to be working. I know from reading this article some time ago that Apple chargers are much more sophisticated than standard ones. I am not an EE, but I am sure someone here is and hopefully can explain why an Apple PSU would work with wireless charging on the iPhone 12 when it fails with various others.
