?‍♂️ That's kinda embarrassing.

So basically the Studio Display has all the disadvantages of a Computer without being a Computer. Hm. I mean that in and of itself is sorta impressive.
Actually at Apple Park, Tim is singing a Phil Collins classic: st st stu studio uh-oh! With Spatial Audio on of course!

You can also update the firmware on the LG Ultrafine 5K. Updating monitor firmware is pretty normal. Although it's not a 6gb download of a complete operating system. Never noticed any difference on the 5K through updates though.

MacRumors front page comment section is such a clown festival. ?
You get those ‘If Steve was alive…’ comments, the ‘I support everything Apple does’ comments and ‘I’m disappointed about an unreleased product’ comments. Throw other variations in with occasional intelligent comments, you have Macrumors

Pretty sure you don't even need to update it unless you want to fix the camera. If you want to buy it I would wait till all the issues with the camera is fixed.

My take is never buy 1st gen Apple redesigns.
I normally agree with you, however I couldn't resist buying the new 16-inch MacBook Pro late '21 and received my shiny new Studio Display a few weeks ago and it's truly the best combo I had since 10 years or so (all Apple stuff matched with top range LG 4 and 5K displays).

One of the things that stand out for me is how low you can set your brightness at night where the screen holds it contrast. Best in class IMO.

For a display everyone thinks is a terrible product…..they sure sold a ton of them and are out of stock everywhere.

Also all of the Cinema Displays had firmware that could be updated. I don’t remember if the first gen was available publicly or if it was just an internal service thing we had, but I know for sure the last iteration had a update…..for its built in camera…lol

I am happy to see a new Apple Display at what we expect to pay instead of one that costs as much as a Chevy Spark when kitted out. It’s a really well built monitor that has a really nice image. I’m guessing it’s just cool to hate anything Apple does now…
The display is objectively a bad investment and a downgrade.

**** I could buy a new iPhone 13 pro max for that ripoff. Perhaps that’s why am iPhone is included in the display

it have a 100nit difference and True Tone is useless for professional work. It’s cool but accurate color representation is more important.

**** I would rather purchase Logitech streamcam for 60$ that already includes a superior sensor, can follow and havecenter stage built in. Or Brio ultra HD pro with 4K sensor and faceId functionality for 260$

Isn’t the problem that this display runs iOS?

iOS 15.4 is no longer being signed by Apple. Which means you can’t download that version.

The Studio Display is not currently getting iOS 15.4.1 for whatever reason, so I’m assuming it’s stuck for the time being until Apple pushes a new version to it.

I’ve updated a Dell display’s firmware before and it was almost certainly a bigger pain in the ass than this process. Also this is just outrage bait headlining tbh. What is “some” even mean here?

Of course, Apple can tailor software updates by device.

As mentioned by an @Apple fan from Korea, some Studio Displays have successfully updated.

The monitor would still work on older firmware. Just like how iPhones still work on older firmware/OS.
Correct.... on older firmware for a display attached to that older computer.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet serious money that there will be a time in the future where a new Mac OS computer introduces a new feature that requires a certain version of the studio display firmware... and those with otherwise perfectly usable studio displays couldn't update the firmware to the needed version to support that new feature.
