Agreed! The release cycle is too short. The previous year's OS is just starting to become solid when the new version comes out and it gets no more updates :(

Yeah, and I am really sick of having an "OS update" every year to my computer. There really isn't much they can add new that I care about these days. Just make it work properly. There isn't a single feature in Catalina I really care about that Mojave doesn't already have. Except Catalina also removes ability to run some older software. I'm really glad I never left Mojave to be honest.

I honestly can't believe people are still upgrading to Catalina after all the hundreds of known problems that people have experienced with it.

I'm still on Mojave, and every time I start thinking about upgrading I see a new post like this. I think Catalina is best left out. I just hope that whatever is next still supports my mid 2012 cMBP.

My partner is working from home, she took home from the office a 38” Dell curved display. I couldn’t wait to see the look of macOS on that screen. Plug it in, doesn’t work.
After the update to 10.5.4 I tried again and it worked, but not after 2 consecutive kernel panics.

Just ridiculous. And she was making fun of the Mac saying she doesn’t have any issue with her work laptop (dell). I ran out of topics to support the fact that a Mac is better than a windows laptop..
As someone working from home (because...) and using HP laptop with 38" ASUS monitor I second your partner opinion. It's a blast. And no OS crashes (that's a given).

My 2019 Mac Pro was experiencing Kernel panics with 10.15.3 (previous version) when “put hard drives to sleep when possible” was enabled in Preferences and the system tried to park the SSD’s. Like when it was idle or tried to go to sleep.

There are a few parallels to this current issue. Can someone try turning it off to see if it helps?

We need a 2020 version of this.

Unfortunately, due to global warming, there won't be a Snow Catalina coming anytime soon.

Start voting with your wallets..... no expenditures on Apple products and services going forward.

Please, no whining, groaning, snivelling or outrage such as .... "But I am so deep into the ecosystem"..... "I am trapped in the ecosystem"..... "How can I live and function in my social circle if i stop using iMessage?.... "I have sunk so much money in Apple suff, I can't switch now".... and on and on.

You have done this to yourselves. Tim did not come to your house and take your wallet. Although, some of you (perhaps not ones in this thread) said "Take my money now!!" every time a new product/service was mentioned.

Face facts and reality and change your purchasing behaviour now...
I agree to a point, but unfortunately, the competitors are even worse.

Part of me is looking forward to the day Tim retires, but the other part is like, well until there's another Jobs to step up, it ain't going to get any better.

I haven’t been able to download .4 but .3 has been generally satisfactory. For some reason the Update function doesn’t work for me. I had to go through some conflated circles to get the Catalina upgrade in the first place. Any ideas why?

Not the only problem I've been personally having after updating to 10.15.4. My external monitor stopped connecting right after the installation, and had to do an SMC reset to fix it. It still doesn't always connect.

I've also been having this issue that my cursor/keyboard sometimes remain unresponsive for several seconds after waking up from sleep.

Edit: all of these sporting the supposedly latest and greatest 16” MBP

Please try something that worked for me (I think I had this problem a while ago and fixed it very easily; maybe it will work for you): I kept having problems with my display going "offline". I upped the brightness level and the problem went away...

Glad to hear the new file system is working out so well. ;)
Still using hfs+ with El Capitan as my daily driver for older 32 bit apps.

I'm not having ANY issues at all with V10.15.4 of Catalina, either on my late 2018 Mac Mini, or my mid 2017 Mac Book Air. When I initially moved from Mojave to Catalina, I did a clean, fresh, virgin installation of OS 10.15.3, and then a migration of needed files, folders, applications, settings, etc. from a just completed SuperDuper! backup of my last, very stable (and clean) Mojave OS 10.14.6 system. Again, did it on both of my Macs.

When I upgraded from OS 10.15.3 to OS 10.15.4, I just downloaded and applied the OS 10.15.4 Combo Updater. Again, no issues.

This is the first major release I’ve decided to completely skip since I because a Mac user almost two decades ago. The benefits are negligible. It creates a ton of work for the user if you are a power user. There are rampant reports of bugs and transition issues.

I really don’t know what Apple was thinking.

I understand that my case is anecdotal, however, I updated my MBP the same day .4 was released and I have not had one issue whatsoever. I have not been on my office computer because I am working from home, thus I have been using this MBP all day long and no issues so far for what its worth. Curious to see if it's something to do with certain hardware and this particular update.

The last time macOS was this unstable and buggy we were clamoring for Copland. I definitely don't want something like iOS running on an ARM mac.

System 7 felt more stable than modern macOS.

To everyone who is talking about downgrading to Mojave/not upgrading from Mojave, etc.

It seems the same issue affects the latest update to Mojave 10.14.6
i've been using 10.14.6 flawlessly on two iMacs since it was first available.

Knock on wood, 10.15.4 has been rock-solid on our MacBook Pros at home. Hope it gets worked out!

Whatever is next is probably 10.16 Petaluma? Stay tuned to the forums. I see no reason to believe that the next OS "upgrade" will be any more stable than Catalina. Just the opposite since each upgrade seems to cause more problems than the last one.
I fear that my two 2012 iMacs will retain Mojave for life since no more Mojave fixes are in the cards and 10.16 may not support my antiques. That's OK, 10.14.6 works fine.

Not me. For every "upgrade" (actually move from one mac OS to the next one), it has been smooth. But smooth or not, I am not seeing anything "earth shattering" in each new version of the Mac OS I move to. The main reason I do it is for better security. I don't even use any Apple applications, or else that could be a somewhat compelling reason to upgrade. Again, though, that does not apply in my case.

I will say that I make quite a few preparations before moving to a new Mac OS. One of my requirements is that ALL my third party software is compatible with the new Mac OS. And in my case, it is always Tech Tool Pro which is the last to be compatible. That typically means that I do not move until the .3 version of the new Mac OS has been released. Hence, by that time, quite a few of the initial bugs have been corrected.

But that's fine, as I have yet to see anything in each new Mac OS that makes it compelling to move right away.

This is one of those times where I'm happy that I'm running on hardware "too old to upgrade the OS" according to Apple.

My machines are locked onto High Sierra, and stable as hell.

Then again, I didn't update them from Sierra until Mojave was out, just because there were still bugs out there I didn't want to deal with.

I have one machine I was able to update to Mojave, but it ran like garbage (at the time) so I downgraded back to High Sierra and never looked back.

Thus I concur with those clamoring for a Snow Leopard-style release and longer development cycles.

This will postpone my planned hardware updates, since last I checked I cannot install an older OS than the one the machine came with.

Still on Mojave. Longest I've ever waited to upgrade the OS. Will probably just skip Catalina altogether.

Same here. It was mainly Dashboard being removed that has prevented me from upgrading, but these reports just reassure me that I’ve made the right decision. Mojave is super stable on my 2017 MacBook Pro 13!

Thats the first thing that came to my mind too. If memory serves me right(pun intended), they had similar issues when they switched to APFS a couple of years ago.

The good ole days when:

1) Come home plug my iPad/iPhone into the charger, MacBook would wake, automatically sync, go back to sleep.

2) iTunes interface was worth a damn (Apple forcing me to Plex)

3) B2MM was a working feature (Apple forced me OpenVPN)

4) Macs would not kp for months at a time

5) Plugging and unplugging multiple devices to troubleshoot was rare

6) What is the beach ball I hear about?

7) Reboot? Oh new OS install.

8) PRAM reset rare

9) Bluetooth was problem free

10) Hard restart, what’s that?

11) I bought stock just because of how much I liked the Mac (well that an the PE ratio)

12) etc.
