But how did you buy it? I think the problem is mostly people who didn't buy from the Mac App Store that are having problems; people who purchased via DVD or downloaded a trial and purchased a license later.

There also seemed to be an issue with people who didn't have the language set to English (but I think these were people who did purchase from Mac App Store) but this got resolved by people temporarily setting their language to English.

Gary

I bought it on a DVD, there was no MAS in '10

Applications install disc. The apps became updated like the iWork apps: Update simply offered to me - downloaded by me.
(By the way: My system's language is English.)

Hmmm, k. I'll keep an eye out then. Thanks for the heads up. =)

Yea, I bought Pages and Keynote through the App Store, those updated pretty quickly. But nothing for iLife so far.

Anyhow, thanks again, I'll just try and be patient (even though it is not one of my virtues ;)).

I have tried all of the methods described here, but I still do not see free updates for iLife apps (iWork was available immediately). Any other ideas?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.
Tried everything everyone here is suggesting and I too cannot get
any iLife updates.

Oh well, I wasn't one of the lucky ones I guess.

Hmmm, I've now read you have to have iLife 2011 minimum to get the updates... this saddens me if it's true. =\

Changing to US store

I tried all the methods posted here: logging out and logging in, switching system language to English, checking for unfinished downloads, checking my account details, resetting alerts and bought apps, etc.

What finally solved it for me was switching to the US store!

iWorks update

I'm getting prompted that there is an update to download from Pages/Numbers/Keynote. Takes me to the App Store and then it shows there are no updates? I, like most of you, bought my versions on CD years back and have religiously updated since then. WTH?

Still not working!

My Mac App Store still shows the prices for the Pages, Keynote and other apps.. When I opened Pages, it showed a message that a brand new update is available and took me to Mac App Store. However, after that it didn't do anything or download any update! Is this happening to anyone else?

PS: Needless to say, I'm running Mavericks on my Mac. And I am running Pages'09, Keynote'09 etc.

iLife'08 update

I have a Family Pack version of iLife'08 installed on an iMac running Mavericks. Although my iWork was upgraded for free, the App Store does not recognize the installed iLife software which was bought online through the Apple Store before the App Store existed. I tried the Test User account suggested in other emails to no avail. Any thoughts?

To everyone:

First of all, you gotta have Mavericks.

For iWork, you need iWork '09 to upgrade to the new iWork apps. iWork '08, as to my understanding, won't do.

For iLife, you need iLife '11 to upgrade to iMovie and iPhoto. Maybe iLife '09 will do, but I'm not sure.

GarageBand is free.

The only app that will be replaced is iPhoto (the upgrade jumps iPhoto from 9.x (3?) to 9.5. GarageBand and iMovie will be placed in a folder with the version number. And iWork '09 will stay in it's respective folder.

The iWork suite is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the past. And you will have to oversee every conversion from the previous iWork format files to the new ones. Especially in Numbers.

Still seeing those issues.

Have Maverick.
Have iPhoto 11 (9.4.3) and iWork 9 (4.3).

Still on the AppStore it prompts me for iPhoto that older version exist and if I want to buy the new one.
When checking inside iPhoto, it says the version is current (which it obviously isn't).

When starting Pages it tells me there is a new version, launches AppStore, and there is no update in the list.
When looking it up in the AppStore it offers me to buy a copy, without warning about the version already installed.

A complete mess.

I get this when I want to update:
"This update is for an app downloaded with a different Apple ID. Sign in with that Apple ID and try again."

Any idea?

Thanks, best explanation so far.

Is it safe to use the old apps (iMovie and iWork's) or would you recommend deleting them?

I double-checked with AppleCare on this subject*, and what they told me is that you can delete them. Just try to oversee each conversion from the former file format to the new one.

*BTW: They had more answers from Apple, and I gave them my own take on the issue, and they thanked me so much that they gave me away 10 gold iPhones... Nah, just kidding.

is this working with final cut pro x as well or not?

No. Just iLife, iWork, and Aperture. Basically because the latter two are now free and the former is essentially EOL in its current iteration.

They were all sold on disc/outside of the App Store at one point as well. Final Cut Pro X was not so this will never happen.

Oh darn. I have iWork '08 with legacy versions of Numbers and Keynote.
I kept Pages up to date and love the new version.

The bad news: no free upgrades for my '08 Numbers and Keynote apps.
The good news: the old versions still run perfectly on Mavericks.
More good news: the new versions of Numbers and Keynote are only $20 each.

----------

Just FYI, if you want to free up a few gig of disk space, make sure you don't have multiple copies of iMovie and other big apps lying around. I have the latest iMovie 10.0 and also a folder containing iMovie 9.0.9 in Applications. That's an extra 1.49GB for an obsolete app.

Also found an "Install Xcode" app from 2011 in Applications that was taking up 1.8GB. A few gig here or there may not mean much to you, but I only had 59GB of free disk space.

Free updates

The MacRumors article posted on Thursday October 24, 11:44 am PDT says:

"As part of its efforts to ensure that all eligible software owners are able to upgrade to the latest versions of its software on the Mac App Store, Apple is intentionally allowing users with any version of Aperture, iLife and iWork installed on their system to upgrade to the latest versions on the Mac App Store..."

There are a number of conflicting posts to this forum; does anyone know for sure what is accurate?

I had the same problem on my Mac Pro. I fixed it by running the OS X Mavericks update on my MacBook Pro first, then updating the apps from the App Store--there was no error message from this computer. I was then able to see the iLife updates for iMovie and iPhoto under Purchases on my Mac Pro. I guess it has something to do with the first computer where you installed iLife 11. For me, it was my MacBook Pro. I own a DVD version of iLife 11 that I bought from the Apple retail store.

I've simply given up trying to get the iLife '09 updates, tried everything mentioned before and nothing.

So can anyone confirm 100% that that they were able to upgrade from a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro with iLife '09 preinstalled (not iWork's) on their own machine??

I've not seen anyone mention they got iLife '09 to upgrade properly. Even if there is one or two, it might just be a fluke.

It's supposed to be iLife '11 and/or iWork '09
(which I think you understand from your wording in looking for someone else).

Just wanted to check if the message on upgrading from iPhoto '11 is still there.
But because I was updating Garageband just the minute before, I accidentally bought the iPhoto from the store.
Bummer.

I filed a problem on the purchase now, one can do it easily from the purchase confirmation eMail.
Let's see what comes out of this.

But this seems to me the easiest way to upgrade into an AppStore registered purchase of iLife or iWork.
Any other path will just not work with Apple (telling from history and from not receiving any response on a contact from submission, asking about the issue).
