I already explained it to you. You didn't write what you really meant.

You wrote:
"if you are male and have an iPhone you are likely to be a homosexual".

You meant (as you just implied again above):
"if you are male and homosexual, you are likely to have an iPhone".

They don't mean the same thing at all.

Huh.
I'm bisexual.
And I've had the first three iPhones, but now I have an iPad.

But I like the fast talking black kid on the bus. Clearly, the white boy on the bicycle is not trendy.

That is all very interesting but nobody here gives a damn what you do in the privacy of your own home. I suggest that you open up a facebook account so you can bore people who want to listen with all of the intimate details of your life. Honestly, you sound like you are doing the stereotypical troll about Apple users. Give it up already. It is an old and tired troll and completely irrelevant.

Just about everyone and their dog has an iPhone these days and a lot of people from various walks of life bought an iPad. This is an Apple technology rumour site but I understand that there is a separate section where you can entertain people with all of your theories regarding product ownership and sexuality. You are boring me.

Should I start talking about what type of girls I like and how I theorize that other iPhone owners have similar preferences? I like blond and asian girls with cute faces. Do you see how idiotic that sounds now? I'm treating you as an equal by showing the same amount of indifference as I would to anyone trying to link product ownership with something else be it political, food or sexual preferences.
:p

Wow. Just wow.
That is one of the most epically bad ads ever made. One for the ages.

Aside from being incredibly obnoxious and condescending, all Sony really managed to do was prove Apple's point that multifunction devices are better for mobile applications. The kid has to fumble around for his clunky old flip phone that he's apparently carrying in addition to his PSP, while the 'dumb' adult just answers his call on the device that he's already got in his hand while playing games.
I wouldn't have believed Sony could be so stupid if I hadn't seen it for myself. They just killed whatever was left of the PSP.

I briefly owned a white Star wars (Vader) PSP but I found that I never played with it especially after I bought an iPod Touch.

My reasons for buying an iPod Touch and subsequently iPhone.
1. I liked the touch interface and games like Field runners.
2. I wanted a smart phone that synced effortlessly with my mac.
3. I want to someday write my own apps for iOS.

My Reasons for buying an iPad.
1. I wanted a bigger screen for email.
2. I wanted a bigger screen for drawing.
3. I wanted to play iOS games on bigger screen.
4. I wanted a device that is also a decent e-reader.
5. I wanted a lighter device to replace my MBP since I found myself using my iPhone on the road and my iMac at home.
6. I'm a star trek fan and having an iPad is like having one of those PADD devices from Star Trek TNG/Voyager/DS9. I don't have any rubber spock ears or a uniform.
7. I wanted a bigger screen for watching videos in the hotel room, on a plane or bus.

I write software for a living on windows but I'd like to be able to write some iOS apps on the side for fun and some extra money. I see great potential for the iOS platform for both serious apps and games and because of this, I can understand that Sony is scared out of their mind right now.

I accept your first argument about the iPod Touch. But I'd question, whether the iPhone's syncing is truly effortless. I think that involving iTunes and the lack of proper file structure makes syncing a bit of a pain. The last point of course hardly applies to anybody.

In terms of the iPad, I see your reasons, apart from the e-book reading.

Sony is losing...

As an owner of an iPhone 4, iPad, PSP Slim and PS3... Sony is losing. I would prefer to play on my iPhone over the PSP any day, except for car racing games which absolutely suck on the iPhone!!!

Sony, the iPhone beats you because:
1) Games are cheaper (generally)
2) Higher resolution than your Minis!
3) There is usually a free trial or lite version to test out first
4) Installation of games is faster and easier
5) iPhone touch screen is better for some games (ie. Fieldrunners)
6) I can do other stuff on my phone - the phone is the killer app which means that I always carry it with me! (not to mention the good web browser, iPod, email etc)

I wish someone would bring out a keypad accessory for the iPhone (so I can have real buttons when this improves game play)

Good luck Sony.

When I talk about e-reading. I'm not just talking about e-books. Have you checked out the reviews of the Wired magazine and Time magazine apps with their interactivity features? I played with the crossword feature on an issue of WSJ. I assume that you are concerned with eye strain. I don't see it as a problem if you have sufficient ambient light, turn down the brightness and if you buy an matte screen protector for glare reduction. I'm thinking about buying an anti-glare screen protector. The iPad goes beyond what traditional e-readers are capable of for news papers and magazines.

Also, syncing is effortless if you don't try to fight it and just let iTunes organize your media and use smart playlists if you have space constraints on the iOS device. But I was mainly talking about syncing of contacts from my OS X address book, calendars and mail accounts.

If someone already pointed it out, forgive me but

Sony ends the ad with what I think sums up their view of the ad...

"Make Believe"

Yes Sony, Make believe the PSP is going to be relevant if you just keep lowering your prices and don't innovate.

All of you lose when it comes to PC gaming. I find both the PSP and the iPhone games extremely lame, so there shouldn't be a question on which is the better gaming platform because both suck to ultimate.

Yeh, but at least with iPhone games, you don't have to lug around an extra box. Besides, who does not love Lame Castle? Its the bomb.

Totally agree with this.

Regardless of your preference, PSP has bigger, larger game experiences hands down with MGS, GOW, SOCOM, GT, and many others.

BUT, most of that is because Sony has an incredible first party, and the PSP has buttons.

If Apple would release a "controller" for the iPhone, we could really start to see these types of experiences on IOS as well. I don't care if it's bigger, as long as we get real buttons.

The bottom line is that you said that "Debt is always bad", whilst you've been indebted for over two decades of your life, just as most of us are.

You don't have to call debt a good thing but you have to accept that without personal debt as an 'institution', you'd be still renting. Debt is a necessity and as I stated it, for many companies, debt is a pretty solid opportunity to finance growth. Anyway, if we carry on like this, we'll have to go into basic undergraduate economics stuff like CAPM... Who wants that?

Yes the bottom line is that debt is bad. And you shouldn't think otherwise. Otherwise you learn to accept it and lose desire to get out of it.

FYI - I'v not been in my mortgage for two decades. I've been in it for 7 years and look to pay it off in under 20 instead of 30 because I am aggressive in paying it back. I see paying off the debt as the best investment I can make instead of listening to so called financial experts talk about "good debt" to get me to "remortgage" and prolong my life in debt to buy some silly mutual fund so they can make a commission. The fact is that once debt is gone and the mortgage is paid, your living expenses become a lot less and you have more options in terms of how much you want to work or invest in something else. All these "good debt" arguments are really just spin put out by brokers and lenders.

Big mistake by Sony.

Compare the PSP to iPhone is stupid.

What's next?

Microsoft ad urging users to drop iPhone in favour of Xbox?

:apple:

Isn't this the argument that Mac-users make? Sure there are loads of cheap Windows apps, but nothing trumps the iLife suite and Apple's pro tools... right?

I'd take 1 excellent game a month over 100 bad games a week.

There are plenty of huge name big games that are very good on the iPhone! So I guess they loose on both arguments.

All those reasons you listed, and not one had anything to do with iphone actually having better games.

What are we talking about here? My original point was that debt on its own is not necessarily bad. In fact, corporate growth is more efficient if its funded by debt rather than equity. For the privilege of stacking insane amount of cash, Apple has to pay a higher tax percentage of its revenue.

But I don't know why you are treating the subject almost as I had some severe personal debt.

Well, I owe a bank around £300k, roughly two-third of the price of our home. But I'm not complaining. The thing is called a mortgage and without it, I wouldn't be able to live in a house that I currently live in. The bank had money and I didn't - I see no shame about that. Due to the low Bank of England interest rate, I'm roughly paying the same amount for my mortgage and my car as my mortgage alone used to cost.

I also have a business loan. The loan covered an extra part-time employee and an office refurbishment with some equipment. I'm sorry that I didn't have £85k to cover the fund myself. But even if I had, I would probably have it invested in somewhere where it's not just the matter of getting the money from one week to another. Again, that loan allows us to do a lot more than we would have been without it.

Loans, bonds and debt in general is a fundamental part of how our economy works. The main issue is affordability. Clearly, Sony can afford to service its debt. So can I. But I cannot afford to buy a family home without taking out a mortgage.

Buy some content Apple!! You need to compete here. Content is king (as they say). You can't just rely on bedroom gaming companies, you need some high end polish to compete.

Maybe they'll consider looking into buying some content when they can finally make the phones fast enough to meet demand. Also when all the independent developers dry up, until then PSP will need to keep sleeping with one eye open.

I own a DS and did a lot of mobile gaming. My old LG env didn't do much of that and it was pretty much there just to text and call people so I carried around my DS when I wanted to play games. My iPod touch was there for music and when I bought it, it phased out my DS on the go. It was easier to carry around and made more sense. Why carry the bigger DS lite when I could carry my music AND play games (although not as in depth and polished as the DS ones even though it made more sense on the go. Who has time to, or really wants to, play Metroid or FF when walking haha) on such a small device? So I pretty much stopped playing the DS other than indoors which was a rare occurrence as it was seeing as there was a 360 for that.

So my contract ended on my env and I made the step up to a smartphone. Being on Verizon I got the Droid X. I started to mess around with it, and added a bunch of music and some games from the marketplace and, sure enough, i didn't really find myself using my iPod as much. I no longer needed the iPod to carry my music for me, my Droid X already did that. Same with games now. Yeah, the iPod had some better games (just as the DS did) but, for the most part, it had what I needed. There was paper toss, NFS shift, solitaire, Space invaders, tetris, tower defense, you get the idea. Pretty much everything I played on my iPod touch. I could hold off on the angry birds action on the touch simply because it saved me another device to carry around.

Point being, even if there are some better games on the PSP, I would rather carry around my phone, with some less polished games simply because of the ease of carrying only one device. Why carry around two or three when one can do the trick? This is why the PSP is losing sales. With so many new phones (android, iOS, and the soon to be Windows Phone 7 devices) coming through that not only call and text, but play games, music, movies, and more, the idea of carrying around a device that only does one thing is starting to lose appeal to consumers and it's showing with the declining sales figures of the PSP. These single purpose handhelds were fine about the time they launched as smart phones didn't do what they do now, and now that they do, the gaming industry (particularly sony and nintendo where their handhelds are concerned) are becoming worried, and rightly so. The times have changed and a device built simply for mobile gaming is losing ground to the do-it-all devices like iPhones, Androids, and other phones.
