And iPod touch costs under $200. THAT's competitor for this demographic, not the iPhone.

As for buttons, jeez... get over it. Physical buttons are like chicklet keyboards on phones. Something demanded only by people who won't move on to the next obvious step.
And if we're comapring "doesn't have", you really don't want to go into the long list of features available on a touch that aren't available on PSP's, such as accelerometer and (as of next month probably) gyroscope.
Oh yeah... and multi-touch input.

^^
lol. This is precisely why people think iphone fangirls are annoying. Any real gamer will tell you that physical controls are the best way to play games.

Thankfully, South Park showed us what "real gamers" look like.

lol and stuff.

I despise almost all Sony products, especially the PSP. Sony is only good for their TVs, and sometimes not even those. On this issue, I would take an iPhone 4 over a PSP any day, and not because I hate Sony, but because I know an iPhone is made to very high standards with good materials. Sony still makes their piles of poop out of PLASTIC! How outrageous. My iPhone 4 could own any PSP's processing power as well. Sony should stand for Stupid Old Nasty & Yucky.

This is spot on, the whole reason why iPhone games are good is that they are simple so you can drop em and pick em up when needed. Unlike a PSP where gaming is more complicated.

I love gaming but if I wanna do some serious gaming I go on my PS3. But the iPhone is terrific for some nice fun games to kill the time on the move.

That's how I feel as well. I would much rather have an iPhone 4 in my pocket over a psp or a ds (no way am I carrying all three). The gaming aspects of the iPhone are good for those moments you find yourself waiting somewhere with nothing to do, like a long line for an amusement park ride for instance. Same goes for the internet capabilities, but that has more uses as well.

Meanwhile, with a PSP, there is literally no game on that system where I wouldn't be thinking about how it would be much nicer to play it on a PS3 with a full gamepad on a HDTV with surround sound. That's what all these PSP games are. Butchered PS2/PS3 type games that you can take with you out of the house.

Sorry, LagunaSol, I forgot that we don't quote or reply to each other.

This thread is over, anyway.

You guys miss the appeal of the PSP. Homebrew. You think I actually play PSP games on it?

So another ridiculously small niche.

I really think that what I refer to as casual gaming is the future of gaming, market wise.

Because if the future of gaming becomes nothing more than Words with Friends and Fieldrunner clones, it would be a terrible thing

Because somehow that means that the blockbuster games that millions of people look forward to every year will just disappear right?

It's a different model for a different audience. There is no reason why the two can't and won't co-exist. Take a look at Nintendo's wii for christ sake.

"Gamers" probably aren't the target market for Apple's gaming goals. It's more the non-gamer who will play a game on the subway because they're bored. If they didn't have that iPhone, they wouldn't play any game or bother owning a DS or a PSP or anything else. I'm in the third category - those who don't play games. I'm grown.

Ok. First you said the future of games would be casual games now you're arguing about blockbuster games. I have no clue what you're referring to now and whether or not you're talking about mobile gaming or something else

By iPhone standards, Angry Birds is a blockbuster. So is any game that starts with the word "doodle.". God forbid the future of gaming becomes games that require a development time of less than a week and make you wonder why the iPhone bothered to incorporate a GPU

iPhones are not for serious gaming, but neither is a PSP. DS is better, but even there 99% of the titles are **** like Imagine Babies! The iPhone suits its gaming niche beautifully.

Also the Marcus adds have always been off putting to me. "I'm a kid with attitude, there for this system is awesome!"

'atta way to get the joke.

Oh I got it. What would be funnier is a pic of my roomie and his apple nerd buddies when they come over and have their annual slumber party before mac world... but they're prolly on this site and I'd get busted
