The XR is nice, but I wouldn’t trade it for my 6.5 Max. As someone else alluded to, personally, I’m just ready to graduate from LCD technology and OLED really has its benefits for me. I also appreciate the aesthetics more on the XS in addition.

Not being snarky (I find your posts thoughtful and fair), but what benefits does OLED have for you. Just curious.

It’s a decent device, mine is going back. Ive got bitten by the OLED bug and can’t go back now. The XR is nice but I do notice the low PPI and I can’t get past the fuzziness of text.
The Oleds in xs and max have lower effective ppl then the xr... You guys forget pentile all the time.

People complaining about fuzziness just want to follow trends. The ACTUAL experience is awesome, but if you want to be bourgeoisie, then go ahead. Just know that WE know what your motivations are. Get over yourself. Check out this blind test video:

That video comparison was between a $300 phone vs XR. Thats not really a fair comparison.
He should've used a Samsung S8 even against the XR. Just cause something is 1080p doesn't
mean the color accuracy is stellar (cheap phone).

You keep spreading this myth.

*Resolution is independent from PPI.

The PPI may be lower on OLED than LCD, but the overall resolution of the flagship XS/XS Max phones still reach higher resolutions than 1080p, so they are still sharper than the XR by far.

And just because something is 828p 326ppi doesn't mean it is a junk display. Like many make it out to be.

Yes, it's not a "junk display" at all and not the point I was making. Apple doesn't implement junk displays into their devices. The display comment was directed at the comparison since the XR won against the cheap Android phone.

Oh I know your point and that wasn't really directed at you. More so towards the people that have discredited the XR display based on nothing more than specs on a piece of paper. I just used your point to make another point.

Good question. Realistically, once you see the true blacks over LCD, in which also I feel like the colors are more vibrant and Crisp over LCD. Being an iPhone user for years, I was always used to the LCD displays and once you experience OLED for the first time, more or less, a side-by-side comparison, it’s a significant difference.

After two iPhone Xs Max's, going to AT&T Stores and Apple Store... Comparing my Max to my Xr for me the difference was not significant. True blacks absolutely, a tad bit better clarity and colors... certainly not what I would call significant. But to each his/her own, glad you got the phone that like best.

I’m a display fanatic (I.e Phones, displays, T.V’s, ect) and after using Apples displays for years, The transition to OLED for me has been significant enough where obviously we highlighted the blacks are more true, but the color calibration with OLED certainly is more notable, and maybe more ‘saturated’ is the appropriate term I’m looking for, but by far I could not go back to LCD after using OLED. But again, maybe I’m more trained to see certain things than other consumers are, or care too.

Ahh, the trained golden eyes humble Brag. ;)

LCD is still the winner for all-around display tech, but I do have hopes for OLED improving on said drawbacks once the tech gets into more people's hands and they start noticing this.

To be honest, I think your post completely went off context and you seemingly are overly concerned over LCD versus OLED. (But I will just comment on this part of your post, as it’s the most sensical).

LCD technology is still very relevant and Apples displays are some of the best in the industry in terms of calibration, brightness and evenness. However, OLED has been around for quite some time, and has the the opportunity to mature, but I think Apples choice/option of using Samsungs OLED panels proving to be reliable and significant in some areas. But the real changes are coming, that’s going to be micro LED is the future for Apples displays likely with the iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and likely even MacBook. Everybody sees things differently, some don’t see the changes with OLED over LCD, and others do, but again, I think that comes partially with experience In what they look for.

Owning both, and comparing them side by side, I couldn't tell any difference in the display's quality of each device. Perhaps sitting in a dark room playing a movie I would notice the darker blacks of the XS Max but in day to day use it's not a problem.

I got my XR on Saturday coming from a 7 Plus.

Mixed feelings on it. if I do a side by side with my 7 Plug things launch as fast (if not sometimes faster) on my 7 Plus.

I went into the Apple Store and was able to see the XR and XS side by side. The picture quality wasn't enough for me to justify the extra cost. I borrowed a friend XS and tested AT&T Cellular and my wifi at home and got the same speeds on the XR as on the XS (and 7 Plus)

The speakers are louder, but I dont think they sound good as the XS... but again at the cost difference its not that big deal to me.

I didn't think I would like not having a home button, but I don't miss it at all, Face ID is awesome, fast and works in the dark. I have found myself using other peoples old iPhones trying to swipe up and close things now.

The battery life on it is awesome! I use my phone from 6 am until 9 pm and on my old 7 Plus the batter was around 32% with the XR I am at about 72% And thats with about 4 hours and 20 minutes according to Screentime.

To me I think I would still be happy with my 7 Plus, but I am also to have the XR. It wasn't that big of an upgrade as I thought it would be, but its nice.

I wouldn’t say my vision is horrible nor am I a screen junkie, but when I compared the screens on the XS and XR, I couldn’t tell the difference. Maybe a very slight difference but I don’t think it was a difference worth another $250+. I honestly would have gone with the XR hands down if only it came in a smaller form factor. I went with the XS purely because of the size.

Feel the same way except for the lack of 3D Touch. Still getting used to living without it.

I never used it. Not really sure why but only thing I used was the keyboard trackpad which is still there so for me I’ve not lost anything as I never used it anyway.

Not even to quick reply on the lock screen?

I realize you were replying to lyceumHQ, but I rarely used 3D Touch on my 6s, though I can see how it would have been more useful had I investigated it some. Still, I'm most often on my MBP, so I would typical reply via my computer keyboard.

Hopefully, more usefulness for the long touch (or whatever it is called) will be forthcoming with future iOS updates.
