How common is that headache with the OLED on the XS/Max? I can't say I've ever noticed anything wrong.

Just bought 8 Plus and not this low ppi budget single camera phone. The screen also did not seem wide enough, but maybe it was the bezels all around.

I just can’t quite grasp someone complaining about the bezels on the XR, but then buying a phone with huge top and bottom bezels. I mean I have owned all of the phones with that form factor, and the 8+ was certainly an awesome phone, but if you’ve chosen that over the XR, surely the bezels are not a huge concern.

I don’t know how common it is (I know there is a huge thread about it on here, but I haven’t read through it all), but it bothered me pretty immediately. I’d say maybe I’m just sensitive to stuff like that (and I’m sure I am, partly due to being older), but my daughter is having the very same problem with her XS. Unfortunately, she was past her return window when she put it all together, and now she’s stuck not really being able to do anything other than sell and lose hundreds of bucks then buy an XR.

I’m sure it doesn’t affect everyone, and maybe I would’ve adapted to it, but as I get older, I don’t need more things that make me uncomfortable. ;-p

Well after all my returning I had to get another xr. The battery life alone makes this phone worth the weight. So I’m living life with the iPhone 7 and xr and pixel 3. Pretty sure my husband looks at me like I have 3 heads.

In older too (52) I haven't tried reading an ebook on mine yet, that may be the real test for me.

I took my “ low budget” phone to Best Buy & had a Zagg screen protector installed, guess I will have to suffer through keeping it somehow...:)

Btw, the Max is a beautiful phone, truly it is but I think the OLED screen would make my eyes hurt after awhile. I also wonder how resistant that screen will be as it appears to wrap around the sides of the phone, hopefully Zagg has good solutions? Oh & the new iPad Pros are also beautiful.

Content & happy with my new phone, grateful to have it :)

Don’t apologize the XR is a beautiful phone and the LCD is very good no matter what some may say. For me OLED android phones/tablets always messed with my eyes and caused my head to hurt. The iPhone X was way better than all those androids but still caused some eye strain for me. I am happy Apple provided us such great specs in an LCD version.

I like all the XR colors and wanted them all (like Pokémon, lol). I preordered blue and had it for 10 days but swapped it for a white today and doubled my storage for only $50. Just something about having all white matching Apple products (matching my car too!!)

I just had to get the Product Red phone, was so happy Apple has it for preorder day! Enjoy your new white phone:)

Sorry not sorry I love my Xs Max!

I got to handle one yesterday, it’s truly a beautiful phone. Enjoy it! Btw what are you doing for a screen protector?

Thank you. Yes enjoy your Product Red iPhone as well. I wanted one at first especially since they didn’t wait to release it 6 months after launch like the others. I hope I don’t have buyers remorse and need to switch to red. But since everyone thinks these are “budget” phones maybe I’ll just buy a second one ;) lol.

Damn am I blind? I can't see difference with text with my Xr to my Xs max and to my X. Where is this fuzziness some people are taking about?
They either have super vision or are full of sh$t!

The 8 plus feels like and is specced like a flagship. The Xr seems - to me - like a bad imitation of the X. Also I can’t go down to iPhone 4 ppi and screen width is key for me.

Anyway I chose 8 plus and gave my girlfriend the Xs Max as I like 8 plus better because of the weight and Touch ID.
No one in their right mind would buy outdated technology like the 8 plus with giant bezels and giant size. But crazy is as crazy does exists.

You sound like Apple’s ideal customer — confusing aesethic changes with technological “advances”...

No their ideal customer buys Xs max 512 gb and cant make phone calls, has poor lte reception and believes a software fix is going to fix poor design evidenced by fcc filings eluding to poor antenna performance

It does seem a bit obvious doesn't it, but you have many that claim they have no reception issues, but then some say they have continued to even with the most recent beta. I personally tried two Xs Max iPhones, but I was not willing to get stuck with the poor reception so I ended up returning them. I've not experienced those same reception issues with the Xr, though there has been some that have reported slow LTE and I've not really experienced that either. Nonetheless I think the FCC filings are very telling in terms of antenna design on the 4x4 mimo antenna array on the Xs and Xs Max. Now I've seen rumors of Apple making changes to the antenna design on the 2019 iPhones. Many went beyond the 14 days in hopes of software fix and surely they have tweaked some things, but can this really be fixed totally with software, I honestly don't think it can.

Xr may not have an OLED display and lower resolution LCD, along with no telephoto lens, but I think it's a really nice iPhone and I don't consider it crippled, bargain priced or any worse or better than the Xs line of phones. I knew what I was buying and I had 14 days to decide and I kept it. I do also believe there are many that purchased the Xs or Xs Max that are also happy which is good.

Yes i had 2 XSs which both exhibited poor wifi and lte performance compared to my iphone 7 cdma which i had learned to live with. Got the Xr and havent looked back. Is it perfect, no but it is the best phone i have ever had.

I watch a lot of video content where the 8 plus is as big as the Max for 16:9. And then I use the top and button bezels to hold the phone... the xr side bezels are outdated with a budget feel, while my 8 plus is nice old school flagship feel. There is a world of difference in style there in the one not being a cheap imitation of the X. I can’t see someone in their right mind buying the Xr. So overpriced for what it is. Have fun with the new 5C.

And again. Ppi is most important. 8 plus is also full hd. Good luck loading full hd.

Well I’m clearly not in my right mind, along with many others, but I surely don’t miss my 8+ when I pick up my XR.

My “cheap imitation” > your “old school flagship”

You post such nonsense, mine is better than yours because I said so. LOL Why must one phone be garbage because it isn't the one you picked? It' just so juvenile and silly! I own both the 8+ and Xr and I am certainly in my right mind and I have no problem watching HD content on the Xr.

Yeah! I bought a XR and now I’m worried I might have mental problems. :( I mean to me it seems like a wonderful home run of a phone, but maybe I’m dumb?? Should I get this checked out?

It seems as if that’s the case. Clearly we are all devoid of any normal thought processes.

Screen width is king.

Lol if you say so. But size really isn’t the only thing that matters.

I don't have any issues whatsoever. I am not saying that other people aren't being honest, I just don't understand how a phone screen could be straining people's eyes or giving them headaches. Seems rather ridiculous to me.

Funny. I have an XS Max since launch day and I have had NONE of these issues. I also live in a very rural area. Is my phone special? Please explain it to me.

What a self righteous arrogant take

Thanks. I love my 5c.

You have fun with your old 6 plus.

From The Wirecutter:

Given how similar the XR seems to be to the XS and XS Max, at a much lower price, we think that unless you know you want the XS models’ dual-lens camera or the better contrast of their OLED screens, you’re better off saving your money and getting the XR instead.

Amen.
