Ok I'm awake now and can provide more details.

I checked my order at 2am EST and the status was 'Update Payment Details'. Apparently my credit card details were incorrect. So I clicked on the button and provided my CC details. A minute later, I saw three charges go through - for the full price of the watch + AppleCare.

My order then switched back to 'Processing', and the charges are no longer on my card. It's been 6 hours since then and my order is still processing.

So question is - how long does it usually take between the CC charge and the switch to 'Preparing for Shipment'? I was under the impression it was ~30 minutes.

I'm concerned that the CC issue caused my order to get bumped further down the line.

Any insight would be appreciated :)

I was worrying about the same thing. in one of the FAQ forums for the watch, they said that you have a grace period to fix the billing information and you wont lose your spot in line. I managed to fix the payment info in 15 minutes, so i hope that works out. You should be fine too.

Also, does your CC not have the charges now....? or am i not reading that right

If by "charge" you mean see a new pending on your account, from what I've seen here and also my experience with the iPhone 6, the time between the new pending and the "preparing..." can be a day or two.

I think what is going on is Apple resubmits your CC to make sure its still good and then assigns a watch production slot to you. It takes a day to make, package, and print the shipping label. Then because China is +12 hours from the U.S. east coast it's another day until UPS picks up the package. The difference between "pending..." and "shipped" is the former is sitting in the warehouse, the latter actually in UPS possession. You won't see an actual charge on your account for a day or so after your AW ships.

Now we're talking'

42mm SG w/ SG band
Email 12:04:39
CC Charged *1:28a.m. on 04/28
Window 05/08-05/27

*Bummer part is I was asleep. Fraud Protection stopped the charge at 1:28 and 4:38 a.m. After a phone call all cleared up, reauthorized at 5:50a.m. Charge went through. All times PDT.

Lesson of story:
Don't buy beer making supplies (locally), wife's transcripts (from some clearing house somewhere), wife's shoes (from Maine), and an Apple Watch all in the same night. It read like a college student who just happened upon a card. Sad days, but kind of funny.

Awaiting Shipping and feeling a little bummed, but ultimately thankful for fraud protection.

Believe it or not *I don't know* whether the charges are still on my card.

I saw them on my lock screen from the Passbook app last night (it shows recent Amex transactions).

I checked my Amex account this morning - no processed charges. Unfortunately the Amex site cannot show pending charges right now (some kind of system issue on their side).

So I don't know! I talked to Apple support and they said my card was 'pre-charged' last night and that it should ship shortly.

Thank you for the detailed info! It sounds like I shouldn't expect it to move from 'Processing' to 'Preparing to Ship' for 24 hours or so.

Sorry, I know I hated reading this kind of question when I was still in processing, but --

If I was charged and changed to 'preparing to ship' before midnight last night, does that mean I'm likely going to end up with delivery tomorrow, or the next day? East coast US.

If you call apple, they will let you know if it is pending.

Also, for everyone else, I contacted support and they said that credit cards get charged when they leave the factories in China.

Probably Wednesday.

Since your status is preparing to ship, have you tried searching by reference on UPS, or signing up for MyChoice? Tracking numbers usually show up on the carrier site before Apple moves the order to shipped.

Frog protection?

Not yet, but I don't think that trick worked for me on my 38mm until I had a UPS tracking # from Apple anyway. Thank you though.

lol, I cancelled my original order for a Stainless and reordered to a Space Gray yesterday....

I think it safe to say I am royally *********

Apple Pay almost failed me. I to got the "fix order" email. I did it in 10minutes and I hope I didn't lose my spot in line. I wonder how long it takes for my prepare to ship. My order confirmation on 4/10 was sent to an old email I don't use.
