More likely due to storage increment, cameras and wireless charging ( highly suspected ). That can make an expensive package there.

I'm going old school and wait for the iPhone 8 or better.

Wireless charging? I haven't seen any leaks about this. I thought that might happen next year. This years will probably be expensive because of the camera and the increase increase in storage. Thr only features I remember were waterproofing but that seems to have died down now.

More importantly, it even mentions lightning to 3.5mm included in the box. I think it's excellent for users if Apple does include it, but I think it's a mistake for Apple as it shows there's a need for 3.5mm still and they've removed it.

I think it's more of a transitional thing, they don't expect to force everyone to buy new headphones but the next time they do they will know what to look for.

Am I the only one who doesn't charge while listening to headphones?

This seems to be a phenomenon brought to light by the removal of the jack, never really heard of people doing this so much before. Is it really that common a thing or is it a false outrage?

What do you think? It is entirely a fabricated false outrage over nothing. Maybe once in 10 years of iPhone have I ever tethered my head to the wall by using a charging cable and wired earbuds at the same time.

People will come up with anything they can think of.

I just checked the photo again. No wireless charging. I think that may be for next year, too.

Def an adapter, cable and EarPods included.

it puzzles me they call it iPhone 7, when its basically same design?
Same old...very old Low Resolution Display.

Samsung passed up Apple years ago, but the Apple Faithful keep buying the old tech iPhone. A testimony to Smoke and Mirrors marketing.

Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter is a dumb idea. So you could plug your precious lighting earpods to anything else?.. Makes much more sense to include the reversed 3.5 to lightning adapter so you could use any other heapdphones with your iPhone.

Probably fake. Or the new Apple's reality of Tim Cook...
But what's the point of lightning headphones if they keep the headphone jack?

Yeah when did this become a thing? I've never done it in my life.

I think this is a case of "What can't we do that we used to be able to do, regardless of the fact of whether we actually used to do it or not?"
I do it all the time.

I expect Apple's BS machine to be cranked up to the max next week to make people forget about the negative press they've been getting.

The Retina display on iPhone is okay. I'm not so hung up on that. The only high priority is battery life, storage, OS and hardware performances along with solid industrial design.

yes, of course many do that. If I'm at my desk or at home sometimes (very common indeed)

Maybe there will be marked battery life improvement and/or inductive charging making it a non-issue.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough...

If my BT headphones run out of juice I can switch to wired option on my BT headphones (no power required). These headphones have both BT and a 3.5mm jack. I could also use the spare earbuds that I carry.

So, If they remove the lightening jack I won't be able to charge my phone while using wired option on my BT headphones or my spare earbuds. This is really a pain for those that travel a lot.

Does that clear it up?

How does this idiotic perception continue to be advanced?

Do you really think Apple hasn't given this a single thought?

This perceived problem is easily solved in the simplest way with a pass through plug on the charging cable. And there are many other ways Apple, or third parties could address it.

Cheap old headphones? Are you kidding me?!

I have a Sennheiser px 200 3.5 jack that cost me $50 and is one of the best open air cans I've had.

I also have a Grado SR 60 that cost me close to $60-70 and in 3.5 and comes with an adapter for the Starcaster 15G amp speaker for the guitar.

I also use a HATIS headset that uses a 3.5 adapter to be used on my hearing aid, shaped like a hook, to make private calls or listen to music on my phone. One reason why Apple's lack of foresight on accessibility for deaf or hard of hearing people who use 3.5 for their listening peripherals. Going BT or wireless is NOT the answer. The HATIS cost about $60-70 on the market.

The sound quality on those headsets are fantastic.

As long as they have an adopter for 3.5, people will still be able to use it.

Yours is not a common use case. Apple designs for the largest common market. For you there's an adapter. all of your expensive headphones would cost more if they had digital interfaces, so for the larger customer base, they will always pay less for digital technology over lower cost 3.5mm tech.

So you're defending the greed in Apple? Trust me. If they don't include the adapter, Apple will get criticized for being greedy and viewed as where "the sun don't shine at ".

Apple will get criticized for being greedy regardless.

What are you talking about? 32 GB base is happening this year. On the iPhone 7, and 7 Plus. It is happening because Apple still wins, because of recent market price improvements.

Apple wins with all 32 and 64 GB levels. The consumer thinks it wins with 256 because the implied value of that storage level compared to the alternatives, but Apple still wins, because you're paying $200 more for the same iPhone as people buying the base model.

all dependent on whether the prices increase... I see a big increase coming, especially on the plus model

yes, of course many do that. If I'm at my desk or at home sometimes (very common indeed)

At my desk where there's a PC I hookup the phone into the computer to charge and use the headphone socket on the PC. At home I'll use my BT speaker.

I appreciate everyone's setup is different but there's always a better or equivalent solution, it just requires a bit of change.

Karma: It's what you get for selling $10 cables for $80. I find it to be pretty hilarious that after cheating customers into thinking that their gold-plated digital cables were somehow superior (it's a digital signal for crying out loud!) that in the end, their boss ended up getting the wool pulled over his eyes on a massive business deal that lost him a ton of money. Something tells me ($80 cables?) he'll be just fine, but it's still funny.

100% agree!! I've also never done this, mainly because my phone goes on charge when I go to bed at night, ready for the morning when I get up for work! The battery in the Plus is so good that it easily lasts all day. But even if I wanted to listen to music while charging I could play it out loud through the speaker, or listen to it on my iPad Pro or iMac. Most people don't do this, which Apple probably know and is probably why they are doing what they are doing.

Don't you think the text is too wide? Comparing to the back of my 6s Plus box this looks fake.

And do you really think Apple will call it a "Lightning to Headphone Jack" adapter?

That's become the accepted nomenclature here but really that's informal language. I would expect something more like "Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Adapter" or something.

EXACTLY. No documentation would be written in a consumer vernacular.

Beyond fake.

The difference there though is that Apple introduced brand new models distinct from its other offerings. The iPhone 7 is just a repackaged 6s that will be thinner, offer a newer cpu and lack a headphone jack. The change is so minor, I can't see apple making a whole new name.
Yeah, Apple would never give a whole new name to something that is essentially the same phone.

So what? Is it not still a better move than making one but forcing you to buy it separately? Some would view Apple's even making the adapter but not including it as both an acknowledgement that there is a need for AND yet another way to gouge customers for another $20.

Neither move on Apple's part will be without criticism from those who just have to criticize everything.

Exactly my point. I'd love to hear the long debates/conversations the execs had over something like this.

Another case of "I don't charge my phone while listening to music, therefore no one else does it either"

I do, just not via wired headphones because that means I'd be tethered to a wall, and I don't really want to be tethered to a wall.
