So here's the thing. Apple is one of the biggest tech companies in the world today.

For what purpose you ask? I will leave it to Apple to answer that in 7 days. I can assure you of something though, they didn't become as big as they have because they removed connectors just to piss people off and have less functionality. Speculation from people not in the know (us) is pointless.

It's been proven that in that in the past, they have been good about what ports to remove - USB was clearly the future when they removed serial and ADB. The floppy drive was replaced by the CD/DVD drive, which is now being replaced by USB drives and high-speed internet. Better battery tech made removable batteries mostly unneeded.

I hope Tim does have a good reason - in fact, if wireless charging is included, he might be able to spin this as a win for users. But Bluetooth headphones are not inexpensive enough to replace wired for all people, and sound quality is not as good. And carrying an adapter to give you same ability to plug in head phones as the previous model is not a win.

Nope. We've reached a point with market prices that Apple will be upping the storage on both models.

32, 64, 256 will be the offerings for both iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
No, cos then apple "loses" at bottom and top storage levels and the customer "wins" on bottom and top tiers. If its 32,128,256 - the customer "wins" on all 3

How likely is that?

uctive charging introduced on the iPhone but I don't see how that helps you. How do you listen to your BT 'phones and charge them simulataneously?

Maybe I wasn't clear enough...

If my BT headphones run out of juice I can switch to wired option on my BT headphones (no power required). These headphones have both BT and a 3.5mm jack. I could also use the spare earbuds that I carry.

So, If they remove the lightening jack I won't be able to charge my phone while using wired option on my BT headphones or my spare earbuds. This is really a pain for those that travel a lot.

Does that clear it up?

I agree - an adaptor is very very unlikely to be included for free.

What i don't get - is why Apple have not replaced lightning with USB c?

In some ways I hope there is no compelling reason for me to get the 7 - I love my 6 and it's nice thinking I'm not missing some must have feature this time - but time will tell well know next week

Am I the only one who doesn't charge while listening to headphones?

This seems to be a phenomenon brought to light by the removal of the jack, never really heard of people doing this so much before. Is it really that common a thing or is it a false outrage?

Good that they are remove the headphone jack, haven't used one in ages. Bluetooth works fine for when I am on the go and do not require the highest audio quality possible.

I have never ever understood these kinds of comments. Whether or not you use the jack, how does it affect you with it being there? Does it get in your way? Prevent you from using the other connector? If I didn't use it (and I do) I wouldn't even notice it's there, so being happy that it's removed seems strange to me. I am a Macbook Pro and Ipad user and use my regular headphones on all of these devices. If you don't, that's ok, but how does it hurt you to have that jack for those that do?

I call BS. Apple will push lightning and wireless as the future of audio. Adapter will not be included in the box.

It's wasted space. I'd much rather it taken up by battery.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this iPhone will be a major upgrade in every way except the externals.

People will complain that it's not been redesigned but outside of that it will be superior to the 6/6s in every way.

Selling something separately that a small minority might need sends a totally different message than including it in the box for everyone. That not only says, 'everybody needs a 3.5mm Jack, so we've included one that we prematurely took away', but it also encourages customers to continue using their cheap old 3.5mm equipment, potentially without even trying the new Lightning EarPods also included in the box.

Cheap old headphones? Are you kidding me?!

I have a Sennheiser px 200 3.5 jack that cost me $50 and is one of the best open air cans I've had.

I also have a Grado SR 60 that cost me close to $60-70 and in 3.5 and comes with an adapter for the Starcaster 15G amp speaker for the guitar.

I also use a HATIS headset that uses a 3.5 adapter to be used on my hearing aid, shaped like a hook, to make private calls or listen to music on my phone. One reason why Apple's lack of foresight on accessibility for deaf or hard of hearing people who use 3.5 for their listening peripherals. Going BT or wireless is NOT the answer. The HATIS cost about $60-70 on the market.

The sound quality on those headsets are fantastic.

As long as they have an adopter for 3.5, people will still be able to use it.

And pricing pressure from Android will keep the price from going up. There are very good $400 5" Android phones, and to be competitive, Apple can't have a large gap in the price.

What are you talking about? 32 GB base is happening this year. On the iPhone 7, and 7 Plus. It is happening because Apple still wins, because of recent market price improvements.

Apple wins with all 32 and 64 GB levels. The consumer thinks it wins with 256 because the implied value of that storage level compared to the alternatives, but Apple still wins, because you're paying $200 more for the same iPhone as people buying the base model.

But Bluetooth headphones are not inexpensive enough to replace wired for all people, and sound quality is not as good. And carrying an adapter to give you same ability to plug in head phones as the previous model is not a win.

I think we're at a critical point in headphone and bluetooth tech. They're doing this because they're preempting what is about to be released now and in the not too distant future. And yes I agree, n the past, they have been good about what ports to remove so why is everyone kicking up a stink now?

More importantly, it even mentions lightning to 3.5mm included in the box. I think it's excellent for users if Apple does include it, but I think it's a mistake for Apple as it shows there's a need for 3.5mm still and they've removed it.

What if you want to listen to audio and charge your phone at the same time?

Personally I think the 7 Plus will cost more, mainly because of the dual lens camera, we will have to see what Apple announce, especially in terms of the features of the dual lens system. But I do think this will cost more. I'm wondering however if the 7 Plus 256GB will be around £1000.

what if only the plus gets twice the storage and the 7 remains 16/64/128? who wins then?
for how terrible that would be, i wouldn't be surprised if they did.

More likely due to storage increment, cameras and wireless charging ( highly suspected ). That can make an expensive package there.

I'm going old school and wait for the iPhone 8 or better.

What if you want to listen to audio and charge your phone at the same time?

Inbuilt speaker.
Bluetooth speaker.
Bluetooth headphones.
Airplay.
Via iTunes if you're charging via computer.

Is sitting next to a plug socket with your phone plugged in and your headphones plugged in really a common thing? It seems just a bit of a strange practice when there's much better alternatives out there that don't involve you being tethered to a wall.

It's ugly and just a place for dust/lint to get in. On my Macbook I think they should have gotten rid of it and maybe squeezed in another USB-C port instead.

Lightning to 3.5 mm adapter is a dumb idea. So you could plug your precious lighting earpods to anything else?.. Makes much more sense to include the reversed 3.5 to lightning adapter so you could use any other heapdphones with your iPhone.

Probably fake. Or the new Apple's reality of Tim Cook...
