You could save $185 by purchasing a sterling silver case for $15 from Amazon.

Or you could even look like you're wearing the $10,000 Edition model with a 'champagne gold' case.

Damn. Should have bought the Aluminium Sport and snap on a $15 case and call it.

I would like to point out that it's sterling silver-colored case made of polycarbonate. It's not a case made in sterling silver. Nevertheless, it's $185 cheaper.

Question remains... does it look good in real life? The case needs to be discrete enough so people can't really tell that it's a case on the watch.

No not good taste just likes shiny tacky things!

No brainier??? I don't think you have the insight to say any Apple watch selection is a "no brainier" that would clearly be speculation and opinion. I have a watch with a glass crystal that I've had for 10 years and wore it every day with no scratches and it's not even as tough as the glass on the sports edition. Now the case is stainless steel and is scratched to hell.

I do have the insight and Yes it's a no brainer. Tho if you can't afford the better model I understand.

I can afford the Apple Watch Edition but that's not the argument here. I don't need SS I will be running and biking with mine on my very expensive Trek bike that I could afford. I don't need the extra weight and extra shininess. I will be wearing it everyday and am not worried about the crystal scratching. The point is you have no idea if the sports watch will scratch on everyone's wrist if they wear it every day so you are a no brainer.

Like my buddy said " The Sport is like the 5C of the Apple Watch " Same colors and same cheapness. I'm glad he talked me into getting the Watch instead.

You can't put ANY band on a SPORT watch except a SPORT band.

Not true. You need to check your facts before you post things like this. You CAN put ANY of the Apple bands on the sport watch. The connections are all the same on all the watches. That's not saying all the bands will look good on the sport watch.

I'm getting the black leather loop to go with my sport watch and o think it looks great!

There's no 'no brainer' decisions here in my opinion, it all depends on each person's lifestyle and what's useful for them. As much as I enjoy wearing heavier stainless steel watches, I personally find myself always taking off my heavier dress watch the moment I come home because it's quite noticeable on the wrist, whereas fitness trackers I tend to forget about and doesn't bother me.

With the Apple watch I'd like to be able to feel comfortable wearing it until right before bed, so for me the lighter weight of the sport watch is perfect.

Having options is good.

It HAS to be TRUE because the guy at Apple told me this info.

Just the simple fact that a new one will be out in a year makes me not spend the extra $200-$600 for a ss version.

i went to check them out in store and I kinda agree.

the aluminum finish looks more hard plastic than actual metal, especially on the harder silver finish (space grey looks better)

the crown itself doesn't have the textile feel I thought it would. I was expecting mechanical clicks when I turn it. but there isn't any... that's when it hit me that this is a digital watch, not the same as my Omega or even my Seiko

your omega clicks when you spin the crown? that's a first!

Wrong, there are videos of it working with non sports bands, I have personally tried at the Apple Store, and customer service said you can.

This might actually become popular.

I don't think Apple thought that the decorational iPhone case market would take off and expand as much as it did (especially after antenna-gate). Now there are entire boutique stores with just mobile phone cases. Same could easily happen with the Sport Watch. College kids with pink and gold polka dot cased Apple Sport Watches. Sorority girls and fashionistas changing both their iPhone and Watch cases to match their shoes. Etc.

Why buy SS watch when one is going to cover it up? Might as well get the AL Sport one.

Also cases to make the 38mm look more like the 42mm.

This bickering is exactly why I hate the direction the 'new Apple' is going in. Something Jobs would have hated. Whether it's the product itself, difference in packaging or the customer experience in store , this is just classist, elitist nonsense.
The sports is the sports - it's cheaper and more lightweight but how can it possibly look like a knockoff - it's a genuine apple watch. By that rationale the SS looks like a knockoff compared to the gold, and how many of you will be rocking that model?!

Will this time next year , you be looking down at the lowly peasants who own aluminium iPhones?!

At the end of the day, no apple watch can compare to a genuine Jewelry timepiece , and functionally every collection model does exactly the same thing.

This thread reminds me of car buying. People pay thousands extra for their cars because the base model doesn't have colour coded door handle, alloy wheels or flashes of chrome scattered about. None of these things make the car any better to drive, its purely for vanitys sake. If you want it swanky with chrome that's fine as long as you can afford it but buying it to fit in is just silly. My car doesn't have colour coded door handles and neither will my Apple watch. 42mm Apple watch sport with white band in the launch day batch

Me too. Put a modern buckle on a Sport and it snapped into place all the same.

I actually liked the Sport. I still prefer the SS which feels a little more substantial, but the difference isn't as significant as had been expected.

I bought the sport as a toss of the coin decision at 3am :) Basically, I know me. I know I'll want the lightest watch possible. A lot of reviews about the SS were talking about the 'heft' and all I could do was groan as heft was the last thing I wanted. I was also worried about smudges. And I know that the next Apple watch will be lighter than the current one. So I figure Apple Watch sport now, then Apple watch later. It will replace my current Misfit Shine (which cost all of $80).
