Never heard the saying "hey look at my nice new dull watch" lol....now I have heard the saying "hey look at my nice new shinny watch"

As a runner the SS is too reflective. Often when you look at your watch (especially this time of year coming up) the reflection off the crystal can be blinding. With the SS this would happen more often and be more painful.

Also an object doesn't need to shiny to look good. Brushed aluminum makes for a beautiful matt finish.

To me all 6 finishes look great including the SS.

Disparaging the model you don't prefer is pretty deep into trolling territory; one might begin to suspect that you're trying to justify spending more for looks to yourself.

Indeed, there is a fine line between being passionate about one's own choice and putting down someone else's. Quite a few of us may have crossed that line.

Same could be said for you. Calling someone a troll for expressing their opinion on a model you chose comes off as....defensive. Be confident in your choice.

I suppose if you really wanted to stretch credulity you could make that argument, but you haven't seen me arguing post after post that people are stupid for buying an overpriced and ugly SS model Watch, because a) I don't feel that way (it's a very nice watch worth the price IMO) and b) because I'm happy with my purchase. So the evidence is not on your side in this case.

Sorry if my post rubbed you the wrong way, but if anyone is coming across as defensive...

I struggled between both the SS and the sport and ultimately preordered the SS. I tried the sport on Friday and it looked fine, but pales in comparison to the SS. I wouldn't call it cheap looking, just cheaper in comparison and more utilitarian.

Well this may be, but for someone who doesn't wear a watch, I think i'll buy the cheaper one to see if I take to it.

If I end up strapping this thing on religiously, then i'll spring for the nicer one for sure.

Resale for Apple gear has been good in the past.

I don't really care what anyone else thinks but personally I think the SS looks cheap compared to the sport due to the shiny chrome look. The only thing to me that makes it any better would be the weight. That being said I preordered the sport silver with green band and also ordered the black sports band. I run 4 days a week and bike 3 so I wouldn't want SS anyway.

I know the sport addition has its place but IMO it just looks cheap around the edges and resembles more of a knock off version. I enjoyed trying on the stainless but the sports edition I would never own

You're welcome to your opinion and if you don't like it don't buy it.

I on the other hand thought it was just fine. the Stainless Steel is pretty and all but given my needs it's a poor choice. the Sport will be a better fit

----------

even though, according to 2 threads on here, I've ordered the cheap ass knockoff version with the girly (green) strap. :)

you go for it, 'girl'. Work that girly knockoff like Jaden Smith in a dress. ;)

space black stainless all the way...I prefer the weight, fit and finish of steel for a watch. Hopefully it's upgradeable :p

Ps after reading this thread the sport does look cheaper.

The Stainless Steel / Link Bracelet looks cheap compared to my 20 year old Rolex Submariner which is precisely why I ordered a Space Gray Aluminum / Black Sport Band....

I'm probably one of the few that also thinks the SS looks cheap because of the shiny chrome look. I like the clean look of aluminum.

I actually prefer it, the milanese loop looks better on it my opinion than the regular version. Also, the regular version is a huge fingerprint magnet around the edge and it looks more like plastic chrome finish to me.

I was going to order the exact same watch at just after 8am last Friday. Was prepared to wait a couple of weeks for delivery but 4 to 6 weeks killed it dead.

My 40+ year old Rolex still works fine even though it hasn't been serviced for about 15 years! Must admit it looks a little dated in comparison to the whizzy Apple watches plus it is only 36mm which is quite small.

Checked out all the watch models today in my local store for the first time and to me they all look pretty good. Will probably pick up the SG Sport one at some time in the future when the store has them in stock. Don't have an iPhone at the moment so not in any hurry. Just an impulse buy!

Lol it seems like OP is trying his hardest to justify to himself spending over a hundred more dollars on shiny metal instead of matte metal.

This is sad

The SS is a total finger print magnet.
My observation from trying them on today - those with OCD will be rubbing it clean of smudges more than using it :)

Please buy the stainless. Hopefully the one close to $1000. In a year I'll have my second generation sports edition and wouldn't have paid $1000 with two versions combined.

This ain't no Rolex ... and I already have two of those. Spending more than a few hundred dollars on this type of technology for aesthetics is insanity at best.

Insanity or not, Apple will still make gazilions of dollars on these.

Totally disagree... Tried space grey one on yesterday with black band loved it.. Tried SS and didn't feel see real difference except the cost.. I'm very happy with the sport I ordered..

Eh I liked the sport when I did my try on. Lighter and felt better on my wrist. Def made the right decision ordering my space grey

My wife said the sport looked like a kid's watch. I ordered the SS with Milanese loop.

What I really want is a titanium Watch.

Light weight, rugged, darker/nicer looking than aluminum. The ultimate timepiece material.

It's designed to look cheap and like a knockoff. Apple needs a way to justify the pricing of their $550-$600 watch product, so they make the $350-$400 product look cheap in comparison.

The good news is that the cheaper product is identical to the more expensive product, except for cosmetic differences. Whether you pay $350 or $17,000, your watch is functionally the same.
