its entirely possible that the phone may be available on tmobile, but i imagine the powers at AT&T are doing everything they can to prevent it. heck, maybe that was part of the reason they're trying to obtain Tmobile in the first place...nobody to undercut them on pricing for what is (arguably) better service.
the mdm6600 chip in the current verizon iPhone 4 has compatibility with Tmobile's AWS bands (and it would make sense to support it as there -are- AWS carriers outside the USA - more revenue for apple) but its totally dependent on if other chips in the phone are tuned to work on those bands. the fact that prototype iphone 4s for Tmobile 3g have been leaked would make me think they're at least considering the possibility.

i would say 50/50 chance for AWS support on the new iphone. while it may not be available directly through tmobile, it may still work just fine with them if you buy one unlocked direct from apple. only time will tell.

CAN NOT WAIT.

I have ATT, and it has been fairly good over the years. However, I have recently had problems with frequent dropped calls at my place. I was a Sprint customer for 8 years before I switched to ATT in 2008 to get an iPhone. I'd gladly switch back, especially if they are price competitive.

CDMA has advantages if you live in the US and never leave the US and have no interest in talking and surfing at the same time and don't mind having slightly faster than Edge speeds and you are ok with either selling your phone or throwing it way if you ever choose to switch to another carrier or move to another country.

You just described the vast majority of users in America.

I don't know anyone that leaves the country on a regular basis. At most it's someone with enough disposable income to go on week long trips around the world every few years. But nothing on a regular basis that would require international support.

Who keeps their phone after their 2 year contract is up for renewal? I don't know anyone. Usually people just give their old phones away to friends/family that can't afford expensive new phones.

HTC EVO 4G
HTC EVO Shift
HTC EVO 3D
Motorola Photon
Google Nexus S
Samsung Conquer 4G
Samsung Epic 4G
Kyrocera Echo

LOL none of those phones are crappy. lol.

I have Sprint, can't wait. Hoping to get grandfathered in before unlimited data takes a leap. Which i don't think Sprint will do, which will pull customers away from Verizon, AT&T, because the iPhone, iPads on Sprint will be unlimited. However, don't let Sprint fool you, they will nickel and dime your ass to death. Especially on 4G phones.

Haha, you don't consider the echo a crappy phone? The ONLY thing that has going for it is the dual screen and that is it. It is very buggy and has issues with the battery. Wy else would they bundle two batteries with that phone?

----------

You can get an unlimited data plan for as little as $70 a month with sprint, and it's the only TRUE unlimited plan left in America.

Sprint coverage here in Omaha is way better than AT&T and Verizon. Sprint is the only company i can get a signal inside my home at all.

We already have the family unlimited data plan. Can't wait to get an iPhone 5 on Sprint and tether to the iPad and MBA with unlimited data.

And how are your data speeds though? I also live in Omaha and it sucks really bad. I would take verizon or ATT over their data network. But, I don't want to loose my plan.

Here are a few links but you really could not be lazy and google it for yourself like a big boy.

http://theartofservice.com/ieee-802-16-–-the-origin-of-wimax.html

http://quantumwimax.com/index.php?page=History-of-Wimax

Wimax is also known as 802.16 whereas it's cousin is known as 802.11 a/b/g/n. Your first clue should be the "Wi" in Wimax" and "802." prefix in 802.16 but you go ahead and believe whatever you want.

Do you work for Sprint or something? Every bloody browser out there has a search field so do your own searching for crying out loud. Don't be lazy and just believe the marketing hype of sprint.

What you are missing is that Wi-fi is also recognized by that group. That means nothing. It just is not used by other cellular companies.

Okay, last I checked I gave the actual link to the date that WiMax was adopted as 4G by the ITU . . . can you read it next time before taking cheap shots . . . . and still being wrong as *****

p.s. your company websites don't count. Bring us some info given by the ITU or something at least, or just drop it.

lol, so you're one of THOSE people.

I agree!

My girlfriend is on Sprint and went to the store about a month ago to upgrade. The person helping her said that she could wait to get the new iphone when it comes out... he must have dropped the ball

Yeah iPhone on sprint/AT&T/verizon..tmobile too I assume this is unlocked now but you have to use super slow edge..oh edge takes me back in the day when iPhone 1 came out..I bet lots of data hogs will go to sprint..I'll stick with my AT&T unlimited for now till AT&T starts to slow me down because I'm a data hog :D I wonder if sprint will start to slow data/cap when iPhone 5 starts to get more on there network..I hope sprint don't bust a verizon and offer unlimited data for a while then stop.not a fan of a phone that don't have a sim slot I would like to pop a sim and use it else where in the world..

Woot this is going to be a big release can't wait..!!

Finally it was about time. Will they even offer unlimited data? Or will it be the gimmick of getting it for one month, then having it discontinued, then being chased down for tethering, then having your data capped? oh boy.

You're an idiot. I own an HTC EVO and it's the best phone I've ever owned, and even though it's a year old it's still running solid. If you've never owned something, don't comment on it.

Anyway, I'd be truly happy if Sprint gets the iPhone 5. This is the news I've been waiting for for a while now. This is going to make my next upgrade a difficult choice...an iPhone would be great company to my iPad 2.

I would miss the Wimax speed though...we'll see.

I purchased an iPhone 3G when they released and LOVED it. With iOS4, the phone slowed to a near crawl due to hardware that was simply too dated to effectively run iOS4, which led me to Sprint and ultimately to the EVO.

Don't get me wrong, the EVO is a great device, but I will ABSOLUTELY go back to the iPhone after my Android/HTC experience. iOS is simply more polished, user friendly, and well thought out. I attribute this to the (cursed, says some) tight hold Apple has on everything that has anything to do with their devices.

I may be wrong, but I feel confident if you ask anyone who has owned an iOS device and moved to an Android device where their preference lies, they will agree it is with iOS.

Here's to waiting to see if this rumor turns to be true! I sure hope so, or I will be a new Verizon customer when my early termination fee begins to drop.

Sprint has ALWAYS been the one to stick it up to AT&T and Verizon. The only reason those two went wild with prices is because AT&T had the iPhone (and Verizon had the biggest network, and now with the iPhone, their ego is beyond belief).

A couple of things about Sprint:
- They were the first to introduce 'Early Nights', 7PM instead of 9PM
- Sprint also had a $15 unlimited data plan (I know cause I had this plan back in 2007, I shopped around). I had a Moto Q, my friend had a Moto Q on Verizon, but was paying $30 for the same data plan.
- They were also the first to introduce unlimited mobile to mobile to ANY network.

Don't be surprised if Sprint ends up being the ONLY network to offer unlimited iPhone data.

I sure as Hell hope so.

If they keep their unlimited plans, I have only one question:
Where do I sign?

Sign up now and you will be grandfathered.

Question is how do I get rid of my EVO 4G with almost a year left on contract...

Keep it, it's an excellent phone.

I've been stuck on AT&T for the past 4 years and all I can say is thank goodness. AT&T coverage has been abysmal for me in the Boston area (I live about 30 minutes away from the city). Can't wait to make the switch.

What area are you in? I'm south of Boston.

Will we be able to talk and surf the internet on Sprint or will it be another Verizon?

Same tech as Verizon.

You just described the vast majority of users in America.

You make a very good point. The majority of Americans aren't frequently traveling abroad.

I had 7 PM nights with Cellular One back in 1993. :D The real question will be, does Sprints network have the capacity to support unlimited iPhone data?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8L1)

Sprint has awful coverage in my area. I'm staying with AT&T.

There is no way Sprint will keep the unlimited data plan if they get the iPhone 5. They may keep it for other smartphones...but I guarantee that there will be some gimmick capped data plan that you have to purchase for the iPhone; or they will offer unlimited for a short while, and then drop it for tiered like Verizon. Who even wants Sprint's data speeds on an iPhone? Sure it is nice to have unlimited, but whats the point when you can barely load a 3 minute youtube clip with buffering every 10 seconds? My dad had a Sprint family plan for years, and he still does even though now he has a Verizon iPhone. I have had the AT&T iPhone since the 3GS. We travel all over the U.S. hauling RV's, and we constantly do speed tests with all three networks. I can tell you right now from having speed tested almost everywhere in America that Sprint is terrible. Rarely have I gotten over 1.2 - 1.4Mbps on 3G; and that was just in major cities. If you are in a more rural area forget it. Forget 4G as well, because from what we've heard the iPhone 5 won't be be working on 4G. Now Verizon is barely a step up from Sprint. Like Sprint's, my father gets around 1.2 - 1.5Mbps on average in major areas. The only upside is that Verizon gets those constant speeds in most rural areas. However, both those networks are gimped 3G, and at some points it shouldn't even be showing 3G on the top of the phone because they're getting like.5Mbps; it's clearly not running at 3G speeds. And again, no point in talking about Verizon LTE, because iPhone 5 won't support it. AT&T is way faster than both networks, getting on average 3Mbps on 3G. People like to bash AT&T coverage all day, but I have it and travel, and I can tell you in the last year they have expanded a ton. Sometimes I have 3G and my dad's Verizon iPhone has nothing. States such as Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, and South Dakota where I used to have like 3 bars and the dreaded circle, I now get full bars and 3G all over the state. The only thing that pisses me off is at one point I left AT&T to go to android on sprint, and when I returned to AT&T they had ditched the unlimited plan; so now I am capped. Being someone who drives for a living and relies on the network finds it hilarious when I see commercials about so and so's network speeds and then hear about capped plans. What's the point of paying that much a month when you can only watch like 5 netflix movies, and then you are out of data are left with either not using your fancy smartphone for what its intended for, or pay $10 for an additional gig. Cell companies in America are out of control.

No news here...obviously Sprint is due to get it.

Oh, and there goes unlimited data. The iPhone curse. Sorry Sprint fanboys. The ride is over.

Don't be surprised if Sprint ends up being the ONLY network to offer unlimited iPhone data.

They won't be able to afford it. Count on data limits after the iPhone launches on Sprint.

If Sprint gets the iPhone and charges even five bucks less than the big two for the same plan, I'm getting on Sprint. If Verizon and ATT went out of business tomorrow, I'd throw a party.

HTC EVO 4G

LOL none of those phones are crappy. lol.
I frickin' HATE the EVO, I have one for work and the only thing worse than the EVO UI and their Exchange integration is the built-in apps that you can't delete. The only redeeming factor for this phone is that it's on the Sprint network, which is much better than AT&T around here.
