So what? Americans pay premiums for imported products all of the time. A BMW in Germany is much cheaper than a BMW in the US.
----------
Last year I ordered Parmesan cheese to be shipped from Italy to California. Guess what, it was unfathomably expensive. Why? Because it's an import! Instead, you should be happy that Apple allowed you the same pre-order opportunity as Americans, instead of America first and then opening it up to other countries a week or so later.
No sense in arguing this. If you take the US-CAD high of 1.2835 from a few weeks ago, multiplied by 1.15 (for maximum 15% combined taxes), and then by $1100 (Price of the watch), you wind up with a price of $1623.63 CAD for the watch.
It has nothing to do with imports. Apple came up with price points and it looked like used the highest US value in the last quarter before the announcement of foreign prices to come up with their price points in foreign countries. Remember, the dollar is down around 7% since early March so naturally prices are higher.
Oddly, Apple's price points really aren't as outrageous as people in foreign countries complain. I find it funny that an American (me) knows about their tax systems. If you don't want to pay that much for your electronics, move to an American economic model away from Western Social Democracy. If you like your Western Social Democracy, well, then, enjoy your expensive watch.
For the record, in CAD, I still paid $1535 if you take the time the dollar was strongest. And that's just with my local taxes. Given that the CAD has risen, I paid $1450. Now, if all your financials are written in USD, do you want to price the watch in a currency that floats away from yours, which isn't pegged to the Yuan, or USD?
My original comment which you have totally taken out of context was based on the USD + Taxes conversion, I appreciate that you guys in the U.S. have to pay GST on top of the price shown when you make your purchase but that still leaves a pretty big price difference.
Apologies to everyone for mentioning this subject in this thread in the 1st place.
Nope. See above. Recent price changes might really be due to newfound USD weakness (which is still stronger than last year). AUD is suffering with the price of commodities at the moment.
Yeah, it isn't for that. Back to complaining about the fact MY WATCH IS NEVER COMING. Eh, soon.
