Conspiracy theory: Space Black has serious production problems

What I find suspicious is that although there is zero movement on all the Stainless Steele Link Bracelet models (both space back and regular SS with bracelets) people have received SS cases and separate SS like bracelets.

If you apply basic reason, we should have seen standard SS Watches with link Bracelet ship already, but NONE have done so. Check out the Apple Watch Orders Google doc to see what I mean:
https://docs.google.com/a/menithings.com/spreadsheets/d/teX78N5Hs3Sj4xrqk11mE7Q/htmlview?pli=1#

So my theory is that there are serious problems with the Space Black DLC production process (diamond-like carbon coating), and Apple is trying to hide the issue by also deliberately halting regular SS Link Bracelet shipments to make it seem like a less dire general Link Bracelet yield issue.

It sounds very tinfoil hat I know, but think of it this way - if you wanted an SS with link Bracelet you could have ordered that combo separately on day one and gotten it by now (by choosing the SS with black sport band and separate SS link Bracelet), but you would not be able to get any movement on it as a combination.

This makes no sense, so I suspect there's a bit of clever corporate distraction going on.

Uh. No.

Heh. The shipping window for both LB's (and I think the LL as well) starts in the next 2-3 days.

If there was a DLC problem, Apple would have pushed out the window by now.

And we know that they've been busy pumping out the more popular models, as they're getting filled.

Never heard to much rubbish. From day 1 the SS Link & SS Space Black Link had a 4-6 week ship date while the separate bands had an earlier ship date.

Apple have not yet missed any delivery dates. If, and only if they miss delivery dates for the watches we can start making up theories that might be realistic. They have from now until 27th May (26th May for some).

Until then, it's just people speaking crap to pass the time or just because they want a moan. No legit reason at this point in time to start assuming anything other than Apple are working to plans and schedules, and at the moment things are moving as expected.

Got a pending payment of £1, got the May shipment date, could this be Apple preparing to ship our watches finally? Maybe later this week?

Chill brah, we're just spinning our wheels and writing ***** for fun until our watches show up. Lighten up.

Exactly. Hopefully this week I get to watch a bunch of in boxing videos and first impressions. I'll be anxious to see how the shipped model turns out and how the link band looks. The more I have read about DLC coatings on watches the better I am feeling about my choice. I'm rather surprised the price difference was only $100.

The SB really is beautiful quite in person. Especially the color, which skews more gunmetal grey than black. Exactly what I hoped when I ordered it sight unseen.

Is the general feeling that they will all look exactly the same, or will the coating add a subtle variation?
I don't know anything about the DLC coating process so there may be no difference watch to watch.

From what I gather it provides a very tough finish with properties similar to Teflon (slick). Depending on the application the color can change depending on the lighting environment and varies from very dark black to more gunmetal. I have coated 2 firearms with similar coatings and they have worn very well.

The most recently posted pictures on this thread are more black than gunmetal grey, even though the display models I've actually seen have all been gunmetal. I suspect the later builds got more extensive anodization/DLC treatment, and are more representative of what will actually ship. I'll be happy with either color, but I'm partial to Darth Vader black.

The color changes with the lighting. In the Apple Store it looks black at the tables. In the case it looks gunmetal because it has lights hitting it from all angles

I feel sorry for the person that tries to strike a conversation with you at the checkout line at the grocery store. I'd imagine you'd tell them that the line is only for paying and not talking. People try to find ways to pass the time with people who are in the same line for the same thing. The soup nazi must have told you to come back in one year.

The video posted earlier seems to validate this. I thought the display version was different from the try-on, but that video seems to emphasize that light significantly affects its appearance. I was concerned before that the display version was not, in fact, exactly like the try-on model. That would have been very un-Apple like.

So close.. so so close now.

Just like others already has explained - it's all in the lighting of the product.

I tried the watch on Sunday, just days after pre order release, so the Apple Store was crowded. My fist reaction was that the watch was much darker than I had imagined. Both in the display and on my arm. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture. But two weeks later I went into another Apple Store, this time almost just a few people there and took this photo of the display - much brighter.

I work in a dark office environment so my watch will always look Vader black :D

I was concerned that the display model does not have real DLC, and that the try-on does. I only had the display to evaluate, and that's what sold me. I would be amazed to think that Apple would do a bait and switch. The one thing that confirms it isn't, and that it is very dependent on lighting, is this video from earlier in this thread:

Anyone else that has seen both in the flesh?
