What’s the point of making yearly updates to these devices when you can barely squeeze out any new feature? Do people really upgrade their watches every year?
I'm sure that some do, and I'm pretty close to upgrading yearly, or at least before I absolutely need to. I've gone from an S0 (right before S2 came out) to S4 (at launch), then to an S6 (used 6 months after launch). My wife went from an S3 (new) to an S5 (used). The prices of Apple watches don't really hold very well and I was able to get pretty good deals on the S5 and S6. I could see getting an S7 if I can match the $200-250 price point I hit on the S5 when I got it for my wife.

basically the new pro model will be where the real improvements will be so if you want those features you got to pay more.

Well this is disappointing.

Apple is a bit of a mess lately, with delays, limited configurations/colors, inconsistent color options, and awkward naming conventions. Mostly these seem to come from the marketing side, but obviously they're still selling plenty of products. Maybe the department needs some new energy, or maybe customers need to be more discriminating (buying last year's phone/watch from a third party seller instead of paying more for essentially identical hardware directly from Apple).

Just because a new thing comes out every year, doesn't mean you have to buy it every year. Better to update it every year and give people incremental options for what & when to buy, vs. making everyone wait 2 or 3 years between refresh cycles.

Spread out the demand this way too a little bit, except in extreme cases for those of us who DO upgrade our devices every year.

I'm not loving the color options across a lot of Apple's line-up. I was hoping the lack of interesting colors was down to Jony Ive's continued involvement.

perhaps the price. $100 more expensive
If anything I'd expect to see a price cut with such minor changes. I don't believe the Aluminum 7 has sold well due to how early and deeply retailers discounted them. I also believe the 7 color selection led to poor sales. Starlight (too yellow) was not a good replacement for people who like Silver and Midnight (too blue) was not a good replacement for people who like Space Gray or Black. The other colors are just too niche. Good that they may be bringing Silver back.

No. But, it’s also not exactly the same folks who bought last year’s model who are going to buy this year’s. I for one have never bought an Apple Watch, because I wouldn’t know what I’d do with my classic watches.

The standard 41mm and 45mm models of the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature the same design as the Apple Watch Series 7, according to Twitter user @ShrimpApplePro, who was first to reveal that iPhone 14 Pro models would feature a new pill-and-hole display.

Titanium will no longer be an option for the standard Apple Watch Series 8 models either, according to @ShrimpApplePro, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that a new higher-end "extreme sports" version of the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a titanium case, so there would still be a titanium option within the overall Series 8 lineup. The "extreme" model is also expected to have a slightly larger display compared to standard Series 8 models.

@ShrimpApplePro said their source is not aware of any new sensors on the standard Apple Watch Series 8, which will supposedly enter mass production this month.

The leaker said color options for the standard Apple Watch Series 8 will include Midnight, Starlight, Silver, and (PRODUCT)RED for aluminum models and Silver and Graphite for stainless steel models. This would be fewer colors than offered for Series 7 models, which also came in finishes like Blue, Green, Space Black, and Gold.

Apple Watch Series 8 models are expected to be announced in September alongside the iPhone 14 series. watchOS 9 should be released in September as well.

Apple the king of keeping **** around for a decade to pass their pockets. Meanwhile other companies are innovating

If this is true then Apple seems to be coordinating its color lineup between its product lines. But colors will come and go, since changing the color is an easy way to distinguish the latest and greatest. Witness the popularity of the Midnight MacBook Air and whatever new color the latest iPhone sports each year.

So the titanium "Watch Edition" is being reintroduced as the Pro model which costs more?

No, the "Pro" model is the rugged one with a larger display. It's not the same as the regular watch. At least according to rumours so far.

For the last 2 years, Space Black has been limited to the Hermes. It's possible it stays that way for another year.

I buy the base model so yes I do buy the new one each year. With trading in the previous one, it isn't that costly. Now if you buy the SS or Titanium models, this would be a tougher move.
