Could be part of the contract
Maybe. Apple did sell a standalone Space Black stainless steel watch before. But perhaps Hermes wanted something exclusive. As I recall, Apple charged a premium for Space Black, but for the Hermes models it's the same price (which is already inflated because of the branding).

What’s the point of making yearly updates to these devices when you can barely squeeze out any new feature? Do people really upgrade their watches every year?

Let’s say your watch just broke, died, or you’re ready for an upgrade. Would you rather update to the model that was released 4 months ago, or 16 months ago?

Anyone expecting a “new” design - think about what happened last year… S8 will carry forward with S7 design. And Apple seems to be thinking about this new “rugged” model …
I feel more than ever compelled to just ignore all these rumors until that day in September…

Absolutely no sense in buying a premium watch that you need to replace every 2 years because hardware is outdated. Even if I was rich. Just keep the aluminium version for poor bastards like me.

Gave me the same feeling as buying the same iPhone since the X version... I know I'm stupid enough for Apple to make me renew their products every year, but now I'm starting to get suspicious about something… =P

I just bought a refurbished series 6 from Amazon for this reason.
Not enough of a difference between 6 and the 7
