Andor was a very well-written series addressing some serious (and timely) themes that just happened to be set in the SW universe. That give at a chance at broader appeal, and the almost complete lack of the mythology, and relatively little tech also helped it to be more approachable and relatable to the uninitiated.

Andor's story in the series, and the film, is easily one of my favorite, if not the favorite part of SW for me, especially given the current state of the franchise.

Luke ending up as an angry hermit, and Han Solo, of all people, effectively meeting his end by being shivved by his and Leia's emo son? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the meeting when that pitch was made.

It might have seemed like a good idea to some people at time, but to me, that is probably the biggest crime, so to speak, of the sequel trilogy, having those characters meet fates I'd neither imagined, nor ever hoped that they would.
Solo dying was a demand for Harrison Ford doing the movie. He didn't want to do another. I imagine the answer to his Force Ghost in The Last Skywalker was the amount of money they threw at him for a minute's work.

Funny you should mention that, I somehow managed to miss the blatant retreading of ANH and as soon as it was pointed out it spoiled it for me.
Sorry dude, its not even my observation, its been all over the media when it first came out, if I had known there was a risk of spoiling it, I'd probably put spoiler tags around it

The Mandalorian and Grogu is doing fine. With a total budget of $300M, it has done $181M in a week in US/Canada and worldwide ($112M + $69M). There are comments about it being the lowest opening of a SW film except for Solo ($147M), but I didn't expect otherwise.

I think everyone expected the first week to be very successful. The question is they are projected to need 400+ million to make a profit will the worldwide theatrical run do that? This weekend's receipts will tell that tale.

I don't see any releases this weekend that could unseat them, so it might be another solid weekend for Disney and company.

I think the sales will be protracted simply because of cost. For my family if we were to go, tickets are $17 each so just to get into the theater I’m looking at over $72 bucks after gross receipts tax. Add concessions and you’re easily in over $100 - for a family to go see a movie.

My point is not to gripe about the cost of movies in 2026, but the cost absolutely is prohibitive and dampens those big opening week numbers. Instead of a family making a theater movie night a rational & easy choice thus routine activity, it’s become one of those family activities that is not routine , instead saved for and planned as a very occasional activity and as such draws out those purchases through a quarter vs huge opening week numbers if not a wait for digital streaming outright on D+

Like I originally said, my issue wasn't that he died, but the manner in which he died.

The SW equivalent of a character stepping into an empty elevator shaft, for those of a certain age who may understand that reference.

Yeah man, Han deserved a Pas Vizsla death ; blasters on overload, kicking butt, making the doomed impossible escape possible. What he got was so lame IMO. They should’ve at least let Chewie put a few holes through Kylo or blow off an appendage. That way he could be rebuilt like Luke, like Anakin. That and Chewie could have his vengeance. Getting skewered by ones Whiny offspring was so lame.

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever go to the cinema again. I much prefer watching movies at home.

All good, I meant it was pointed out back at the time, and it wasn't that kind of spoiler.

At least it wasnt as awful as Kirk’s original death in Generations (shot in the back). The reaction to that in screening was so bad they shot a different scene.

I guess we have the answer to this question
The Mandalorian And Grogu Crashes With 70% Drop In Second Weekend - Can Overseas Box Office Save It?

From first to third is not a good sign.

not surprising. There are still fans who will buy anything with a Star Wars logo on it, and that includes horrible slop. This movie could have been AI generated and I bet they would have gotten the same numbers. There is just a level of fan that is so brain dead they might as well just give Disney access to their bank account for easier transactions. I think you will obviously continue to see the movie plummet and not get anywhere near breaking even.

The past weekend was a battle of fresh horror movies, from two hot young directors, which attracted young audiences.

And because they were cheap films, Hollywood was happy, and the buzz around those two, which was already percolating, will get even hotter. One of them was already having big deals for his next film waved in his face.

Mando scored well with children/families when it opened, but it might not be the segment of the movie going audience that has legs. Everyone else, including some here, is probably just going to wait until it streams.

Perhaps it's also time to acknowledge that everything, including SW, cools, and can't be blockbuster all the time, as much as Disney wishes that was the case. Doesn't help when the quality of the SW product has been uneven as well.

It’s pretty crazy when you put up the cost of a $200-300million+ against a $2000 100% AI generated movie like Dreams of Violets that took all of 2 months to make. The risk to reward ratio is crazy for the bulk of the movie industry to not pivot towards AI generation of popular IPs and away from live acting. I would not want to be an actor or in that industry right now because I guarantee Disney (all of the studios for that matter) is looking at movies like DoV and all of the very well done and polished AI fan films out there and then back at their $300m + Mando movie that weeks in now and with world sales is still in the red 😳 I don’t have any doubt they’ll get there eventually with other revenue streams like toys and games & digital purchases etc. but the net margin performance is just horrendous comparatively.
