While not specifically Star Wars related but still very relevant...

RIP James.

While I loved him for his voice of one of my favorite characters of all time, to me he will also be the big, bad, mean guy, with the Beast of a dog from the Sandlot or the guy from Field of Dreams and the laugh and pure kid like look emotions as he goes into the corn field.

RIP Mr. Jones...

Having recently completed Andor, rewatched Rogue One this evening.
  • I observed that Tony Gilroy was involved in the screenplay of Rogue One and Andor. Proof is in the pudding.
  • The split between Saw Gerrera and the Rebel Alliance is consistent.
  • Blasters had no real effect on Imperial Security Droids in Andor, but on Rogue One a single blast from Jyn Erso took one out… it may have been that weapons have improved since Andor.
  • The destruction of the Holy City in Jetta is sobering, catastrophically, visually impressive.
  • I’m still aggravated Everyone on the Rogue One Team dies 🙃
  • I just watched the Andor series without the booming Star Wars sound track and felt no loss with its absence in Andor. It’s fully present in RO, with the understanding, this story is bumping right up against the original trilogy. The Star Wars soundtrack, although as great as it is, eliciting fond memories, it would have been out of place in Andor. And it might feels stagnant now to keep using it without some changes, updates, for a new story that moves Star Wars into an actual new age of story telling.
  • Disney killed all the existing 3rd party Cannon to what, untie its hands? And this is why 7,8,9 were such dismal failures? 😡 My son who has been deep into the book series like Rogue Squadron, says there were hundreds of Star Wars stories to draw on, or maybe look for inspiration as a path forward for the Franchise, if big wigs like JJAbrams find it too hard to find inspiration.
  • Of note these two stories Andor and Rogue One although huge, expand the Cannon from just the scene of “we have the plans to the Death Star!” To a wonderful, fully fleshed out scenario, filling in these stories with a great expansion, but are still tied to the old. We need something new! 🤔

I'm not sure if I posted this before, but its a point of annoyance - Storm trooper's armor and how absolutely useless it is.

In Return of the Jedi, storm troopers were felled by some sticks and rocks being thrown at them. Even without armor the worst that would have done, is just given someone a headache.

In Rogue one chirrut was able to take down storm troopers with his staff. In one instance he's whacking a storm trooper in the chest with quick unpowerful strikes. Even without armor that sort of strike won't do much, yet he took down that trooper.

I don't go to movies and complain about how a sci fi fantasy movies disobeys the laws of physics but making the enemies out of paper mache seems rubs me the wrong way - more then then how the storm troopers fire hundreds of shots, only to miss, but the heroes takes them down with alarming precision.

In the SW universe, the best defense against hand blaster fire is clearly a laser sword, skillfully swung in graceful and pretty arcs, with deflections that strike down the enemy as a bonus. :)

And, the lucky have no need for smart phones, or radio comms, because IMs can be sent telepathically, and FaceTime has been replaced by GhostlyHologramTime.

Well also the best weapon against KX security droids are trucks. (See Andor S2 episode 8).

I have watched season 1 of Andor and it is hands down the best and only Star Wars worth watching since the originals. Ignore Ep 1,2,3,7,8,9 and all the other shows that Disney has tried and failed miserably with. Andor feels like it takes place in the Star Wars universe and expands on it, showing elements of how the government was working. I am looking forward to season 2, heard it is awesome. Rogue One is worthy to be included, again it feels like Star Wars and fits like a glove.

Your son is correct, there are lots of great books that were written. The Timothy Zahn ones were great and if memory serves me started like a day after Return of the Jedi. Disney completely nuked all these actually good and world building stories for their sloppy and lazy writing. Not that Star Wars itself is super smart and without holes and issues, it is what it is and somehow Disney ended up making it worse.

Just finished Andor season 2... started off slow but man the slow cook pays off and loved seeing some of the back stories to a few of the characters.

We really need a Saw Gerrera series... Just one season...

Amen to that. Interesting character, though he was in the Clone Wars and Rebels (I haven't watched either) IIRC. Forrest Whitaker is an outstanding actor.

Do they finally rescue Spock from that forbidden planet, and put an end to HAL 9000?
They need to free Kirk from the carbonite first

Yeah I noticed - though the one in the trailer seems more colorful, maybe a new version, or perhaps a flashback?
Bound to be a flashback. Or maybe the Jawa's finally managed to scavenge enough parts for a Mk II!

Anyway looking forward to it. However I’ll wait until it’s available to stream. I’m done with cinemas.

I enjoy the in person cinema. I remember in the mid 2Ks where Lucasfilm re-released Starwars with CGI enhancements on the big screen (this was right after episode III and I assume to re-connect continuity to IV)

That was such a cool experience with fans bringing their lightsabers and a few Jedi in the crowd as well and it was super packed. I went to the midnight showing. It was a whole thing and was a lot of fun :)

Anyways, The previews and the please silence your phone message & don’t forget your concessions messages with their cheesy CGI graphics lol was all part of the fun. I agree The price nowadays is prohibitive and is why I don’t go. We had a Cinemark $1 cinema (actually was $2.50) that my wife and I went to all the time but it did not survive C19 unfortunately.

Nowadays movies debut right onto streaming platforms like how B movies used to go straight to video lol. Anyways, if The Mandalorian goes to the cinema, it’s a movie I’d go see in person.

Kind of reminded me of where Mando was being pursued by the X-wings (Carson Teva & Trapper Wolf) above Maldo Kreis (the ice spider planet).

This is brutal

I don't think this guy is totally wrong, and he has a point that its been too long since we last saw a star wars movie, that disney should have had a major rollout to announce they're back, but instead we get what could amount to 3 episodes stitched together to form a movie that should have remained on disney+

The likes/dislikes of the trailer while very popular has what I consider a high amount of dislikes, which is surprising. Tbh, I thought the trailer was pretty good.

I can tell you I puked in my mouth a bit when I saw the stylized Mandalorian & Grogu name/banner. It’s the Mandalorian for a reason. Not Mando & Grogu or Mando & Bo Katan or Mando & Boba Fett. Makes it hit like the Hulk Hogan Ultimate Grille lol. The positioning of Grogu in the title is… dumb. I guess they want to sell more Grogu dolls to 5 y/o girls lol.

I’m not a fan of the trailer either. the cinematic stuff seemed like it was pulled from D+ season 1 lol. It was hard to sus out where the story was going from s3 and the trailer anyhow.

I’ll not judge the upcoming movie until I see it as I am a fan of the Mandalorian story arc overall but the way the trailer was patched together it seems very reminiscient of what we saw in s1-3.

Let’s hope KK hasn’t completely screwed this up for fans as well.

I agree. The last three movies outside of Rogue one were not good. R1 was pretty great however & Andor also was put together well while on Disneys watch. Outside of the Scooter gang in BOB which was lol stupid & writing off one of my favorite/and interesting character Dropper Cara Dune (which I do not think Dave or Joe could have stopped considering the Disney culture at that time), Jon Favreau & Dave Filoni have done a pretty good job over all considering the constraints/desires of Disney so while my expectations aren’t too high for this movie, I’m hoping Jon can put something solid together for MAG that moves the story along.

My gut says they should just have run a S4 on D+ and be done with it but we’ll see if the movie is decent or not.
