I never understood the appeal of Boba Fett as a baddie. I know he was made into some sort of really cool character in the expanded universe.
But objectively, looking at what he's done on film, he's not very impressive. He has a really cool looking armor, sure. But other than that his only accomplishments are getting lucky (picking the right star destroyers trash) and then getting shot in the back by a blind man
Yoda: No more training do you require. Already know you, that which you need. Luke: Then I am a Jedi. Yoda: No. Not yet. One thing remains. Vader. You must confront Vader. Then, only then, a Jedi will you be. And confront him you will.

He's the unfortunate victim of he needs to be covered more...but doesn't sadly.
Also he gets out of the pit. Not covered in movies but in print/comic stuff. here enters nitpicking about canon versus non canon. Too tired for that lol....

I recently watched Rogue One a second time, and although I still think the franchise needs to move forward into a new post-Death Star Chapter, I really enjoyed RO this time and have deemed it worthy, to such an extent I believe it should now be viewed as the Episode 4 Prequel.

Would that not be amazing if they remade the transformation of Annakin Skywalker? It could be done in a single movie and I'd watch it. It might wash the bad taste of Episodes I-III out of my mouth.

Rogue One is available on Netflix for streaming. Just watched it for the third time, and I have to say this episode harks back to the glory days of the franchise and embodies the essence of Star Wars much better than Episode 7. Now maybe I should rewatch Episode 7 and give it another chance.

Since Sky Movies is endlessly running the Star Wars movies now in the lead-up to Episode 8, I tried rewatching the prequels. To be honest, previously I never really hated them as others did. But I just couldn't get through the first one - every single scene with Jar Jar Binks is just godawful slapstick trash, and almost all dialogue throughout is so cringy. I don't know if they've just aged badly or I'm just slow in picking up how bad those movies were!
Rogue One I've now watched multiple times, and I really love it.
Same universe, but feels fresh due to new characters, slightly more serious and less silly interactions, FAR better dialogue, edgier plot. It makes the Alliance/Rebels into more of a nuanced group (far less clean-cut, more violent). Seeing the Death Star's destruction from the planet's perspective makes it seem a far more evil and scary prospect. (My favourite scene is the one where Krennic looks up and sees the Death Star hovering above with the weapon aperture pointed towards him). By comparison, The Force Awakens wipes out the Republic in one go and it seems a bit glossed over. Ok, billions of people died, but it's over in a few seconds..
The only real downsides to Rogue One were.. (cough) the unlikelihood of a sequel. And it's a traditional, self-contained story unlike the original trilogy which felt much more like small windows in time and space into a massive, ongoing universe. Ok, it also feels like Halo Reach stolen, but in movie form!

I never read the books, there were multiple Rogue Squadron books (?), but I think if they wanted to, they could do more Rogue Squadron stories. The problem and reason this probably would be an issue is that strory has already been told, i.e. defeat of the Emperor and his second Death Star, and the redemption of Annakin Skywalker.
My repeat critique- It's time to move on with a new ark and if anything discourages me it's the story telling disappointment known as Episode 7. Granted it was not the abomination of episodes 1-3, but the chance to launch into new and fresh, something original apparently required some imagination that Abrams either lacked or he calculated his retread story would be a huge hit with a new unfamiliar generation, and that those of us with a memory would not mind the repackaging of the original story.
For anyone who is critical of Episode 7, this is worth a few chuckles. It's gotten 124k likes on You Tube:

That's why I really liked Rogue One. It just felt like a fresh start, while still staying true to the canon and characters. Ok, it wasn't entirely original (the end battle was very reminiscent of the battle of Endor) but it was a huge step forwards.
I liked Eps. 7, but it was just a cut 'n' paste of concepts / storylines / action from the previous films.
I'd love to see something leftfield for Eps. 8:
Kylo Ren is trained by Snoke, but something good in him stirs and he rebels and vows to fight for the rebellion. Luke finishes Rey's training, and gives her a lecture on how it's up to her to save the galaxy. When he's about to initiate her as a Jedi Knight, she goes down on one knee and he proclaims "Welcome Rey.... to the New Order". She looks up, with evil Sith-like eyes. Fade to (very) black. Cue evil choral music.
We've had several female protagonists/heroes in the series, but no strong female villians (other than the incredibly weak Captain Phasma). Rey appears much stronger than Kylo Ren, which is odd as the hero is typically set up as the plucky underdog.
