I agree that nuking all of the prime characters gave this movie serious gravity And as is, it is my favorite SW movie since the original trilogy. :)
Agreed (well since the original and Empire Strikes Back).

Besides, we've all bern told this was a suicide mission (and it was good to see a 'war' movie in this universe, just as it us great to see a spaghetti western-ish story with The Mandalorian).

Looking forward to the Cassian Andor & K2O series on D+.

I'd might go as far as saying this is my favorite SW movie. Emphasis on might. What is definitive is that RO is now the ONE movie I choose to introduce people to the SW universe, if it hooks them, we keep going into ANH, and then reevaluate from there (most of the time I follow the machete order).

That’s perfect! :D

Yet, I would have been happy, maybe happier if they had allowed these characters to survive and use them as a story branch out into the Star Wars Universe, something other than the catastrophe that befell the Skywalker Clan at the hands of Disney money changers.😉

Just rewatched RO on Blu-ray. Still bloody love this film. It’s Star Wars, but with a different feel. Love the fact it fills the plot hole in the original SW, ie how the Death Star is destroyed so easily. Also like the fact that none of the main characters live. I remember when I saw it in the cinema and the shock of seeing Peter Cushing, my brain couldn’t work it out for a few moments.

Rogue One gave us a tetrology of worthy Star Wars movies to have good memories about.

Rogue Squadron was a series of books, that I never read, however while I agree the ending gives this story gravity, I would have preferred to see these characters survive, at least some of them so I could enjoy more adventures with them. :(:)

I acknowledge I said this a little over a year ago in this thread, but like repeating myself, along with the Disney Money Changers comment I’ll repeat too. ;)

I read all the books. Before they all got deleted from Cannon.

Recently rewatched it for the second time and agree with everything you just said. I can't wait for the Disney+ series.

There’s a Disney+ series? Why? One of the things I liked about it was it was a very one off story, all the main characters died! Pah!

I believe it will be prequal featuring Cassian Andor

Yep, Cassian prequel.

Isn’t it always a standard order for Hollywood these days?

Original
Prequel
Sequel
Reboot

How about some original writing?
There were several new Star Wars series announced that were original.

Disney is fully taking advantage of their IP and I don't knock it. I think Rogue One is probably one of the best Star Wars in the franchise.

I would love to reboot the final three sequels, those were a mess. Absolutely zero cohesive story lines, over-used and non-original story lines, plots that made zero sense. I'm so dispappointed in the sequels, there was so much opportunity to knock them out of the park but instead trotted out Palpatine in a sad attempt to salvage the mess from the last Jedi.

I don’t think Palpatine bothered me as much as the running out of fuel chase!
Rouge One was a great stand alone addition. But they will just milk it for all it’s worth. Until SW is just another disappointment in life.

The biggest strength of Rogue One is that Disney actually had the balls to introduce a cast of entirely new characters, make us invested in their stories, and kill them all before the credits ran. I do see the Disney+ series as a bit of a backtrack on this, but Diego Luna is a great actor, and the character came into RO with a heavy load of baggage, so I'm willing to give them a pass as long as the series maintains the grit and the gravitas RO had.

It would be a breath of fresh air if fans could have a discussion of one entry in the saga without airing their grievances about the others. Each film has its own strengths and weaknesses, and every film has more of one than the other (depending on your point of view), but we now have 11 films, 3 animated TV series, and 1 live action TV series that feel like parts of a cohesive whole, which is an impressive feat for any franchise.

That was the most asinine chase I have ever seen and lets not forget Leia flying back into the ship from space... ugh

Guys! SPOILERS! Not everyone has seen the film where Palpatine comes back...

Nah, kidding. RO was a perfect movie. Not sure why there's going to be a prequel series, but pretty happy there's more SW on the way.

Yeah, I agree, partly because even in Legends, Palpatine game back, either because of essence transfer or cloning - I forget.

As for the chase and running out of fuel, that was so stupid. I mean why wouldn't the First Order just have some of their capital ships jump in front of the rebels. Why wouldn't the rebels just jump to a planet that was populated or was an ally (instead of asking them to come and help). The whole idea of tracking ships jumping was stupid as well, and of course the Rise of SkyWalker took that to the nth degree with the opening scene of the Millennium Falcon being chased by tie fighters as it jumped from place to place.

This is where Disney nearly ruined a franchise, I mean the Marvel franchise had a grand plan and it shows a general cohesiveness with the Avengers movies. Star Wars was all over the place and it really ruined the last episodes for me. Unlike the prior 6 movies, these are not really re-watchable.

Like the original 3 and the 3 prequals, I can re-watch Rogue One, not because its just a single movie and doesn't break lore but its a really good plot, that balances the lore with great story telling

And because I am one with the force and the force is one with me!
