This is incredibly interesting. Internet trolls have made a bunch of burner accounts to trash The Last Jedi on Rotten Tomatoes. https://movieweb.com/rotten-tomatoes-last-jedi-audience-score-fake-news/

I was thinking that fan rating might be “fake news.”
I was talking to someone about this. Rotten Tomatoes has a review program and some reviewers become "top reviewers". Currently, I don't see a away to meter the Audience score based solely on top reviewers.

You’re right, Rotten Tomatoes promotes certain regular people to “Super-Reviewers.” Super-reviewers contribute to the audience score and there is no way to filter their reviews and their ratings aren’t weighted in any way, although the do display on the front page. The super-reviewers have given it very high marks as far as I can tell.

I watched it today. I thought it was ok, good even. Certainly not 'awesome' as some had told me. Seemed like the pacing was off and they were trying to tell too many stories at once. Not sure why I didn't 'love' it, but maybe if I end up seeing it again, I may change my mind...maybe...

Milk scene? Stupid. Leia flying through space? Not a fan of it.

These 2 from Tartakovsky are actually better than ep 1-3.

There's more back story on the blue milk than there is with Snoke.

I think I read somewhere that JJ Abrams has already pitched a script for EP IX. JJ has been given an interesting hand - the First Order Supreme Leader dead and the rebellion is literally 12 people on the Millennium Falcon AND a recently resurrected Leia (who happens to be dead IRL).

"Let the past die. Kill it if you have to. It's the only way to become who you were meant to be."

Kylo Ren is the single most disappointing Star Wars character of all-time.

Not Rey although she is kinda disappointing too. Not Jar Jar. What did we really expect from Jar Jar except to sell toys and be comic relief to little children in Ep 1? Rey hasn't even tapped into or understood all her powers yet. Imagine when she does?

Jesus Christ / Virgin Mary / Mary Sue characters -

Clark Kent
Steve Rogers
Rey
Daenerys Targaryen
Jon Snow

Many of us are flawed people. We're no angels. We're no Eagle Scouts. Many of us can't relate to perfect characters. That's why I was Team Batman and Iron Man all the way last year. I'm a d bag just like Tony Stark if I want to no different than Steve Jobs when he was alive towards his employees. It's fine to aspire to have a high moral compass but that's not how all of us will ever reach. Alot of our lives won't be perfect no matter how hard we want it to be.

I wanted to love Kylo Ren. I defended him losing to Rey, had an avatar and wallpaper of him. He looked as cool as Iron Man. In two movies, he hasn't lived up to his hype and his motives doesn't make any sense. He's related to heroes and legends. Why be so evil? What hurt you to be that way?

Related to people who still loved you...
star-wars-a-new-hope-luke-skywalker-princess-leia-organa-han-solo-force-awakens.jpg

Kylo, ARE YOU A VIRGIN? Why can't these writers just give him a girlfriend? Why do they have to make Ben kinda like Luke? I mean Luke probably had never been kissed until his sister gave him one. Is that why you refused to kill Rey? You want to get laid while you kill off your own relatives?

Kylo didn't even give a shot for Han to escape. I know Harrison wanted out of SW prior to ROTJ but Kylo just killed Han without giving him a chance to choose his fate. Then he was ready to kill his mother but didn't. Then he wanted every shot fired at his uncle. If he is aware Rey is more powerful than him, why give her a chance to live?

Emo child without a cause. Goes on tantrums. He's Star Wars' Joffrey Baratheon. Kylo is not even funny for a villain. Loki is. Vader had a dry sense of humor. You know what's courage? Keeping headphone jack and trying to kill Daenerys Targaryen with one hand to end the war! That's courage. Kylo Ren lacks any of it. Killing your dad isn't. Darth Maul killed a Jedi master before he split... That's bad***.

Prior to seeing TLJ, I was hoping Rey to slaughter his ***. Hasn't happened yet. Gave SW's Mary Sue a Disneyfied scene that involved lifting rocks outside a cave. The little girls watching soaked that up. I still have hopes for Rey to kill this Sith poseur. Kylo Ren lost to a girl and Snoke called him out on it and the ridiculous mask that he doesn't need to wear.

Three biggest what the F moments in TLJ -

Snoke dies
Luke becomes Force ghost
Leia survives

The last one is understandable to respect Carrie's work. The first two are questionable especially Snoke's death because he died from a trick. Not skill. And also because Kylo Ren isn't menacing enough to carry the torch to be the main villain. He lost to a girl. No excuses.

Vader is basically some middle-aged guy with third-degree burns, breathing problem, and a black man's voice. He's easier to replicate because it's just some tall guy in a black suit and you can hire someone to sound like James Earl Jones. But Vader had charisma. He was sarcastic. He had mystery. He had presence. He was menacing. And most importantly, he never lost to an untrained girl in a fight.

David Prowse stood at 6-7 and was a body builder. Even if unmasked and was Sebastian Shaw, we watched him in Rogue One and people still feared him. As Yoda said, don't judge the outside or inside. Kylo doesn't have any of IT, mask or no mask. Nomore mystery. To viewers, he is a Sith poseur. An ungrateful emo brat.

Kylo Ren in another life is this...

Looks cool and mysterious at first until...

Kylo Ren lost to a girl! Untrained Force-noob! A Mary Sue. He's really Ballerina Man!

Why did I think about Harry Potter half way through the movie?
Oh yeah, stones moving like the bricks as Diagon Alley.

Seeing some of the ardent Star Wars fans argue about points in the movie, just keeps me realizing that sometimes people lose focus on a good movie. Yeah there was some things that were told or handled differently but overall, it was a great movie and one that I'll see again. Isn't that the mark of a good movie? To me it is.

"I think the kids need to go to lightsaber fight school, but… that’s just me thinking out. They got time to get better."
- Samuel L. Jackson (2015)

The Last Jedi's fight choreography is pretty weak shown here from fan-made videos by emo girls and "Reylo" shippers...

The best Star Wars film since the original trilogy (possibly since The Empire Strikes Back)

Not sure why people are upset about Snoke dying - he was never fleshed out anyway, is not necessarily central to the story, and Kylo Ren is a far better villain. I suspect the reason some people don't like Kylo Ren is because they see too much of themselves in him. He is very millenial.

Also, some have voiced complaints about the lack of development toward finding out who Rey's parents are. Who cares! There is no need for her to have some sort of interesting backstory. It would be better for her to be a "clean sheet" character that can develop on her own without any of that. There is more than enough backstory to star wars to go around. Why is the idea that she came from nowhere so unsatisfying to some people? Why does every character have to have some sort of deep, interesting back story? A little mystery keeps things more interesting, unless you have no imagination.

Finally, Leia...I suspect her arc in the film was partially dictated by Carrie Fisher's untimely passing. I had assumed they were going to kill her off, but instead they seem to have gone the other route and given her as much screen time as possible in this, her last performance as a living actor. Presumably they will utilize digital versions of her in the next film (and probably kill her off quickly for practical reasons).

I would have preferred that Luke "died" the way Ben Kenobi did in A New Hope - it would have made for some nice symmetry. But I'm not upset about it.

No it was because Kylo looks like the lovechild of Professor Snape!

Disney have said they won't CGI Princess Leia or use a different actress, so not sure what they have planned.

So having seen the film, I have the following impressions:

  • The "moving of the pawns" made a lot of sense. If they weren't going to make Rey evil, they did the right thing
  • The parentage reveal was appropriate
  • As a view, I'm as confused by Kylo Ren is by everyone else
  • The score was great, as usual, but lacked a signature cue like every previous Star Wars film
  • The Casino bit was a bit too long. I get it and it's important and it seems like it will matter in the final installment
  • Still not sure who Snoke is/was

In TFA, after seeing Luke's original light saber, a stunned Han Solo pointedly asks Mas, "where did you get that" and Mas replies something to the effect that it's an interesting question for another time. After TLJ, it apparently still is. The only thing we know from TLJ is that Luke apparently couldn't care less - not even the least bit curious about where it came from or how Ray got it. Without saying a word he just nonchalantly throws the thing away after he sees it for the first time like it's a piece of junk and that's that. Pretty much sums up almost everything in TLJ for me...

Basically it's this: when I saw ESB in the movie theater back when it came out, I remember I couldn't wait to see the next episode. With TLJ, there's nothing to look forward to. They can pretty much start it anywhere with anything.

I'm OK with whatever they do, because we're talking about a human being who died, how her family might be affected - if they want to do a scroller announcing she passed, possibly have a funeral as an opening (as long as it's done right, has the right "blessings"), just say goodbye and continue the series. The death of an actor can't always / doesn't need to be, worked into to some tightly integrated plot point. :)

I'm glad they didn't in all honesty. There were too many complaints about The Force Awakens being to close of a copy to a New Hope. I also remember people REALLY REALLY hoping that the Last Jedi was nothing like Empire Strikes Back. I'm glad they didn't go down that path.

Yeah Why not answer some of those questions? It turning out that these producers don't really care about the story line they just leave it to the directors ti figure it out as long as they can merchandise the toys. They should have the same writer for all 3 films in the trilogy so thats there's some coherence otherwise it'll be a series of stand alone films. I don't believe that they actually know what they're doing.

Even after TFA I was excited to see what would happen next, but after TLJ I'm like whatever. The Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man could come out of hyper-space and fight Kylo Ren for all I care.

Also I'm a little pissed that Luke is gone, unless he pulls a Leia and comes back from death.

Beginning to think director Rian Johnson hated The Force Awakens so much he decided to destroy it with TLJ.

I think that the 3 lessons Luke gives in the movies explains pretty well why the saber is in fact just junk.

The way he saves what remains of the resistance at the end of the movie proves it beyond any doubt (even if obviously there's a high cost).

Also I don't know if anyone caught this but mid way thru the movie there's a shot of an iron blasting out steam and kind of looking like a space ship but then turns out to be an assembly line making First Order uniforms. I think thats a reference to Hardware Wars - a campy spin off. I got it cued up to the iron scene:

#notmystarwars

As of today, I would rather hope for a prequels reboot than watch this Twilight crap from Star Wars.

My feelings might be worse for TLJ because of my growing disappointment with the Kylo Ren character. He kills or wanted to family members and even had a thought to kill his own mother? I'm supposed to care about him falling for Rey? Worst SW character ever.

First time view -
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
Rogue One

After today or tomorrow -
Rogue One
The Last Jedi
The Force Awakens

It could be reverse once I see more of TLJ. Rogue One is the closest to a SW film in "feel" since ROTJ. There was a war in the Wars. It basically served as a 2+ hr prologue to ANH. Gareth Edwards does direct slow-moving films as seen with 2014's Godzilla. But after a few viewings, it does get better.

TLJ is divisive according to those user reviews vs critics is because two of the three what the F moments didn't need to happen. And the direction where it is going is now catered to Twilight fans and Jon Snow/Dany (Jonerys) shippers. It's painfully obvious they are going to make this trilogy into a love story at the end.

In its defense, I do think we as fans have high standards for it and over analyze it. Compared to say Transformers (live action), Pirates of the Caribbean, and most of the Fast films, the worst SW films (excluding Ewok adventures) would still blow most of them away. The Last Jedi or Transformers: The Last Knight? It's pretty obvious which one is superior even if you might hate it for a SW entry.

I just can't ever support this Kylo Ren character. He isn't witty. He isn't menacing. He goes through unnecessary emo tantrums and he's probably 30. He lost to a girl. His motives are pointless. I'm supposed to care for a Reylo love story after Kylo committed patricide and wanting to kill other family members?

Writers are making Adam Driver into the next Robert Pattinson. ****, Disney!
