@KingslayerG5 you keep saying « he lost to a girl » as if this was a valid argument.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the year isn’t 1954 anymore.

Also, The Witch-king of Angmar lost to a girl, too, does it make him a bad character for that?

Ok, I've been baptized, and gagged up a little water. ;).

star-wars-the-last-jedi-red.png

In a nutshell: I've already lived the rebellion and the fight of am I good, or am I bad (?). I stand by episodes 4-6. I give it a 7/10 in general, but a 3/10 for originality, ending up with a 5/10 total. That said:

  • I actually got a thrill from the big battle scene at the start.
  • I thought the light saber fight scene was kick ass.
  • When the Millennium Falcon starts flying and shooting things and they play that certain Falcon music, I can't but help get shivers. :)
  • I liked Poe, and BB-8, one little kick ass robot who kicked the crap out of adversaries the entire movie. :) I thought Daisy Ridley's and especially Mark Hammil's performances were weak. He was saying the lines, but I did not feel it from him. Did not care for Laura Dern either.
  • I thought the while we run for our lives across the expanse of space, you have 18 hours to fetch XX, bring him back, do his special thing and save the day was a bit stretched.
  • The casino reminded me of just another Star Wars bar scene, but this time fancy. :)
  • A lot of the action seemed calculated and convienent.
  • Ultimately my nutshell comment, they are just massaging SW themes for the new kids to churn out how many more episodes?
  • I do like that they kind of fooled us into thinking Kylo Ren was turning towards the light.
  • I don't like that the rebellion has been beat down to a pulp, and needs to regain it's momentum. Been there done that.
  • A ship goes to light speed slicing though a dreadnaught causing death, destruction, fire and explosions all over, not to mentioned surely a loss of atmosphere and our heroes are still alive while everyone around them is dead?
  • Lea being able to stand the vacuum of space by way of the force I presume, was pretty cool. I can except it took it out of her, causing a coma.

The best part of the movie (Snoke vs Rey/Kylo) was also the worst part for the story going forward like it became a double-edged lightsaber. The moment Snoke got split in half is like how I felt when Game of Thrones' writers killed off a certain, devious character in Season 7's finale. What for?

Remember in Iron Man 3 when we found out who The Mandarin was? Damn you, Shane Black. That's how I felt with Snoke. I felt cheated. The Mandarin was supposed to be a fierce adversary against Iron Man and got written off as a joke. That's what I felt with killing Snoke. He is supposed to be this mysterious, powerful villain but all we got was a cheap death scene for him.

I still liked the movie more than how Tyrone Magnus saw it. It does have elements of TESB and ROTJ. The Force Awakens didn't have much going for it as Abrams is a hack writer/director that should just stay with TV shows. He's the Puff Daddy/P Diddy of film directors. He needs to heavily sample from Spielberg (Close Encounters.. /E.T./The Goonies = Super 8) and Lucas (A New Hope = The Force Awakens) to make his films.

I completely understand some of their dislike or even hatred for TLJ.

W T F at Leia surviving? Carrie is dead. How will they kill her off in Ep 9? Another CGI face that Disney keeps saying no to.

Yoda appearing when it wasn't necessary.

Snoke not surviving and being a disposable villain like Phasma.

Still not knowing who Rey's parents are. That cave of mirrors scene was such a tease that showed us nothing. Junk traders is BS to me.

The showdown between Kylo v Luke was disappointing.

Luke becoming a Force Ghost when it wasn't necessary.
I agree, that would have been the way to go for the Princess.

Finished watching it a second time and my feelings hasn't changed much from it. Maybe a little worse because my hatred for Kylo Ren keeps growing. Stuff like Ewoks, Jar Jar, porgs, diversifying the cast for more non-white guys, that stuff doesn't bother. I don't mind Finn and Rose. It's the frickin' villain!

I'm starting to think Rey is the one who killed Snoke. It's her lightsaber that was angling the moment Snoke got split. When Hux asked what happened, Kylo said Rey killed Snoke. Then again, she looked kinda surprised and Kylo did team up to fight the guards. So Kylo could be lying to Hux.

I still can't understand Kylo's motives. He was being strangled by a guard before Rey threw the lightsaber like a girl. Then a minute later, he asked her to join him. Let the past die but then Rey means "something" to him. BS. He's an ungrateful emo prince. Maz Kanata is like a man-hungry female version of Yoda.

Rey is like Little Red Riding Hood who discovered she can take Excalibur from the stone. She's worthy enough to carry Mjolnir. These writers are making her the most powerful character that she didn't even work hard to get it. I actually like Daisy Ridley's acting over Emilia Clarke as Dany. I just can't buy into her character. Disney might as well make their new mascot Minnie Mouse.

There were FOUR bridged minds scenes and after the shirtless third one, she calls Kylo a liar. After she goes through her mirror scene inside that dwell, she's bonding with Kylo like that's her new bf, wanting to touch his hand, and seeing his future was solid. Then is convinced enough to turn him? Uh, what? So she leaves Luke when her mission was to be trained as a Jedi and get him?

The fight scene in Snoke's chambers was weak in technique. Rey and Kylo just waved around the lightsaber mindlessly. Worse than TFA. Maybe 2nd worst behind ANH. Just watch that fan-made video and you can see how awful it is. There's no discipline or polish in their lightsaber duels. I think Vader's 3 min "cameo" in Rogue One surpasses ANY moment in TFA and TLJ.

The second time seeing the Yoda scene was better for me. Callback to Empire with Luke always looking over the horizon. The most underrated scene is actually Holdo sacrificing herself in light speed. It was intercut between Finn/Rose going to be executed and Kylo and Rey splitting the lightsaber. Her convo with Leia prior set up that scene for her.

I'm still contemplating if The Last Jedi is better than Rogue One or not. The pacing was faster. There wasn't many dull moments. TFA and Rogue One had them. But the characters and story just seems awful. Not that Rogue One was that much better. If there was email and PDF back in 1977, there would be no need to make a Rogue One. Just email it to Jyn, Galen.

I still don't agree with having Luke becoming a Force ghost. Neither did Hamill. Why not wait until IX? Luke also contradicts himself in the film. In the beginning, he wants the Jedi line to end. Vanity he says. I always found Jedis like a religious cult and glorified monks and priests with lightsabers. Rather be human and love someone and be possessive like Ani. By the end, Luke tells Kylo that he isn't the last Jedi and it will continue. Huh?

About the same opinion. If you turn off your mind and not look for every plot hole, it's entertaining enough. Good escapism. I didn't realize how tall Laura Dern is standing next to Oscar Isaac. Or that Kelly Marie Tran looks like Margaret Cho. Or that Benicio del Toro kinda looks like Brad Pitt in certain lighting and angles.

Still the 5th favorite SW film. Maybe falls to 6th. Rogue One is the closest in timeline to the OT. TFA will always be worse than TLJ for me though. Unoriginal story.

The Force Awakens - for nostalgic
Rogue One - for SW purists
The Last Jedi - for girls
Fifty Shades of Rey - for girls

Star Wars Anthology films will now surpass the main series. Skywalker / Balance of the Force fatigue. Looking forward to Solo and Obi-Wan films. Then again, it's Di$ney. Even John Williams' new score sounds like it is made for an animated Disney movie. At least the Star Wars Anthology films will revolve around SW characters we actually care about. Han and Obi-Wan are Top 4 for me easily.

I liked it overall, but agree that it was a good 20 mins too long and did seem to nearly end several times LOTR style. My favourite part was the light-speed jump, even though you do have to wonder why that massively destructive effect wouldn't have been weaponised by now. Not too sure about Snoke being done in at this stage, but did like that it showed how Ren isn't Vader. On top of that I liked all the parts with Luke after he reconnected with the Force, especially that double-sunset John Williams-backed final shot, would have loved to see more of Chewie and the Porgs, and don't believe for one second that Phasma is gone.

Oh, and kudos for the many celeb cameos. How many did you spot? :D

Well, I just finished up watching The Last Jedi for the 4,184 time. The more I think about it, the more I think Nightcrawler would be way better at being a Jedi than Luke Skywalker. Luke Skywalker can lift an entire x-wing fighter with the force but Nightcrawler can go through walls and he's blue, so he matches the light saber.

I guess I don't understand where Yoda gets his clothes or how Luke pays the help. I mean, I know the First Order hires slaves so I guess it's possible psycho Luke could have slaves (or at least a librarian for the six jedi texts). You know who else is really good with clothes? Dobby the House Elf. So I was thinking about that, because here's my ranking of Star Wars movies based on their similarities to Harry Potter

Empire Strikes Back - has Lightsabers, which are kind of like wands
A New Hope - has Lightsabers
Return of the Jedi - has Lightsabers
The Force Awakens - has Lightsabers
The Last Jedi - has Lightsabers
then the prequels - have lightsabers
No lightsabers in Rogue One, so that goes last because it's the least like Harry Potter

Does anyone else have a cat? I have 2 and one of them just moved out of our house. I see him down the street all the time. I kind of feel bad because I haven't vaccinated him. I'm not sure if that's a problem or not. Here's a video with cats.

Here's 20 minutes of cat videos to support my point.

If you made it this far in my post, you have gotten further than I ever have in any of kingslayer's posts.

Sorry, Kingslayer, but we're trying to have a discussion with you and it's not working.

Positive opinions

^ Telling you because it had to follow the Snoke death scene that the Holdo scene was fantastic. That's courage and heroism. And Rose was great for me. I don't get bothered by side characters like Rose and Finn because they move the story along. If solely focused on Rey or Kylo, it would be boring.

LOL Moments

Poe calling Hux pasty.
"Jakku is nowhere."
"Seen your daily routine. You're not busy."
Luke telling Rey to reach out.
Chewie ready to eat a porg.
"Do you think you got him?"
Hologram Luke brushing off his right shoulder.

There's more of what Mark Hamill would do than Luke. His first words were, "Go away!"

Most of my favorite characters in SW are dead or a Force ghost.

Darth Vader
Yoda
Han Solo
Obi-Wan Kenobi

Top 4, all gone.

Who's left to root for? Leia, Chewie, and Artoo. The droids and the Wookie could be around forever.

Leia will be written out in IX. My favorite Leia will always be in ANH. I don't include Rogue One. She was spunky. I was never turned on by Carrie in a slave girl outfit. I felt like Carrie was strung out with drugs and alcoholism by Ep 5 and 6. Her performance in ROTJ, she just mailed it in.

"Run away. Far away."

"You have a power I can never understand."

Yet, in TLJ, she was using the Force saving herself from death.

Usually when you watch an adventure/action film, there is a protagonist you will root for. Sometimes you can enjoy the antagonist as well. These new Star Wars films from Disney offers neither one.

Rey - An overpowering Mary Sue

One scene, she wants to find out who her parents are. In another scene, she says they are nobody. She calls Kylo a monster which he gladly admits in the second scene when their minds were bridged.

By the fourth and final one, she wants to hold his hand and sees his future. She's convinced she can turn Kylo. Then challenges Luke and has him on the ground. Then leaves to go to Kylo and waiting to be captured.

Kylo Ren - An emo, ungrateful brat

He's actually worse than Joffrey Baratheon. We never saw Joffrey kill his relatives. He's a Darth Vader wannabe and fraud that I mistakenly thought could surpass his grandfather two years ago. All I see is a child with a mask.. or without one. He can't control his emotions at all. He was screaming "MORE! MORE! MORE!" when they fired at hologram Luke while Hux said that's enough.

There is this one scene that made me laugh and it was unintentional. Kylo sees Luke's hologram and screams did you come here to apologize? Like Luke is supposed to owe him an apology? Kylo killed like half of Luke's Jedi students. Luke should have killed him on the spot. Now Han is dead because of this ungrateful kid.

Rey and Kylo Ren = They both suck as a protagonist and antagonist. They are both idiots to believe they can turn each other around.

I don't mind bad characters. I just don't like "badly-written ones" which Kylo Ren and Rey are.

My favorite characters from these Disney Star Wars are actually droids.. BB-8 and K-2SO. I think the latter is who I always wanted C-3PO to be. R2-D2 will always be the greatest hero in the entire saga. From Episode I-VI, Artoo always saving the main heroes from trouble.

Disney have said they won't CGI Princess Leia or use a different actress, so not sure what they have planned.
It worked out well for Tarkin/Cushing in Rogue One, I cant see why they cannot do it with Leia/Fisher.

Yes, spoilers...

So finding Luke Skywalker (the great hope of Episode7) to turn things around for the new rebellion was a pipe dream. Why do you think this carrot was dangled before the audience?

Did he teach Rey anything, except maybe give her some perspective about how to fail? You went to the dark! Rey: I got nothing from you! And his one real contribution, before he bowed out was to distract Kylo Ren so the tattered remains of the Rebellion, a couple dozen people it seemed, could run away to fight another day. And the hope offered at the end of the movie are young children dreaming of being Luke Skywalker? Did anyone find it poignant that Luke died basically a broken Jedi?

And what do you think about Yoda’s appearance and message: Luke, look at how well things are going. Who needs an organization designed to influence and train force capable individuals towards the light and away from the darkness. Rey doesn’t need any training, she’s amazing.. Forget about it, let’s burn these stupid books.

Btw, who lit the ancient Jedi Texts on fire? Was that spirit Yoda?

Maybe now I’m realizing why Mark Hamill’s performance was lackluster, he was unhappy with his part of the script. In the top video listed in post 113, he said referencing the studio view “oh, if it made money, it must be good.”

That video is a montage of quotes taken out of context, so I am not sure what you should believe from it.

Having Luke raise that xwing from the water would have been a nice character arc for him.

I feel like we're in an alternate universe where UFOs exist and Disney is screwing up Star Wars.

Edit yes TLJ is having a incredible box office, but I think ANY Star Wars film would well at the box office.

I'm not so sure he died broken. At the end, Luke had a better understanding of the "neutrality" that is the force. What's really going to bake your noodle is did Luke achieve the prophecy of bringing balance in the force by re-discovering it's neutral nature?

I'm not sure the texts are destroyed. When we see Finn open up a drawer on the Millennium Falcon (after putting the blanket on Rose) I could have sworn I saw at least one of the Jedi texts in the lower right.

Interesting you first comment. The concept of the Force is good vs evil (in the hands of sentient beings). If the message is just sit back, why worry(?), which seemed to be Yoda’s message, is it really why bother to do anything to improve the human condition? Let the bad guys romp, sure they’ll kill millions but in the end we’re all dead anyway, so why sweat it? ;)

I presume that the reference to imbalance in the force, and the fulfillment of prophesy is much more than just being aware that the force itself is neutral. It is the presumption that humans wielding the force is what makes it good or evil, and the imbalance in the force reflects back on us and our motivations.

Not once in any of the movies is the bolded ever said.

The force just Is. It's the religions that have risen around it (Jedi, Sith) that are good or evil.

I might have said that better, but if you look at my entire reply I explain what I mean. That the good or bad in the Force is how it is utilized by sentient beings. Altered the post you quoted a little.
