I never understood why Lucas wanted to start Anakin at such a young age? Why not start his story at 16-17? We don't need to watch his childhood goodness. If there was one guy whose childhood was literally ruined by Star Wars is Jake Lloyd . I wouldn't be shocked if Jake will die young before he turns 40 like Corey Haim. The Phantom Menace ruined his life. I feel bad for the guy and was only 8. At 246, he may live the rest of his life filled with drugs and crimes. Another sad ending for a child actor. I am rooting for Jake to pull through.

Back in late-1998 leading up to The Phantom Menace day, I remember thinking how cool Darth Maul looked and how cool and modern the fight choreography was in the teaser trailer. Like if Jar Jar were to sell toys to the kiddies, Maul was for the older or cooler kids. At 18, I even went out to buy Maul's action figure. I think Darth Maul was a such a missed opportunity. I think he is cooler than Boba Fett. Along with the great subtle performance by Liam Neeson as the cool-headed Qui-Gon Jinn, Darth Maul was the only real highlight of TPM. Except he had like two lines and was in the movie for less than 15 minutes. Lesser than Jar Jar! A villian with shallow depth that got disposed after one film. Ray Park did a commendable job for what little he was given.

I saw TPM back-to-back on opening day and still kept the ticket stubs. And saw it again with my cousins and friends another night. I might have paid to see it three times and a couple times sneaking to the theater with my 5-year old brother. To me, TPM is SUPERIOR to AOTC but are polar opposites on how they were told. TPM starts off much slower but ends much better with a far better lightsaber duel. AOTC starts off promising with humor but ends horribly with a terrible duel. And lightsaber battles have always been action highlights in SW. They are both turds for SW but I would take TPM over AOTC anyday thanks to Qui-Gon & Kenobi vs Maul and can tolerate Jar Jar.

I think the theory of Luke going dark started with the August EW issue...

www.ew.com/article/2015/08/12/star-wars-luke-skywalker-hooked-jj-abrams

If Luke Skywalker did turn to the darkside, it is going to be a dramatic reveal that JJ will pull off to make the audience gasp assisted by some epic John Williams score. I knew pretty much the core story of Episode III and the tension in the music and scenes was still there when I first saw it a few times starting with Mace and seeing Order 66 by the 80th minute mark. Who knows in that second TFA trailer that we might assume Luke is talking to Rey is actually Kylo? Is Luke a Sith Lord?

We know by the way Finn holds his lightsaber he isn't trained for it and maybe Luke wants it back and asked Kylo to retrieve it. It is hard enough for me to believe Luke goes dark after seeing him touch Artoo who will never join him to the darkside! I haven't really read much about Pameron but the stakes get raised. The theory of Chewbacca dead where Rey is crying? That bothers me! Not Chewie! *Wookie roar*

Actually, not really. I am kinda immune to shocking reveals thanks to LOST and The Walking Dead killing off major characters . How it is presented to us is what I look for. Not the result but the journey and the motive behind it. If Chewie dies, it's just a movie! Everyone dies in real life.

I forget Lawrence Kasdan came back to write stories for SW since he wasn't there for PT which generally sucked but did write TESB and ROTJ which are better than ANH. He said he never wrote a character like Kylo Ren before who is full of emotion. Considering I still enjoyed all three SW PT in the theater multiple times and expect TFA to be superior to the first two, I think Dec 17 (we get it a day before the U.S.), is going to be AWESOME! I will be 39 hours ahead of my Californians at watching it so I should have a post here either liking or loving TFA before Noon (Pacific Time), December 16.

Whether Luke goes dark, Kylo and Rey are related to Han and Leia, Starkiller will destroy entire solar systems, and a major character dies, this movie is worth getting EXCITED for if you are a SW fanati

I can see this with many actors, but especially child stars. They touch the golden ring and then it slips through their fingers, falling from the momentary light, back into the dark which is so much darker now, at least that is their perception. :(

I'm going with my friend to see this as soon as it comes out. He's a series fan.

I have recently watched all 6 main films (some for the first time!) so I'm in the mood to see it now.

Maybe a couple of glimpses of something new. ;) I've noted how important and intregal the John Williams music score was and is to living this adventure. It's not that often that symphony orchestras can revel in pop culture. :D

"More than anything, I drew on personal experiences as cautionary tales, things that I didn’t want to do again. For example, I didn’t want to enter into making a movie where we didn’t really own our story. I feel like I’ve done that a couple of times in my career. That’s not to say I’m not proud of my work, but the fact is I remember starting to shoot 'Super 8' and 'Star Trek Into Darkness' and feeling like I hadn’t really solved some fundamental story problems," he said. "The collaboration [with Lawrence Kasdan], for me, was an education in storytelling and doing so with clarity, with efficiency, brevity — wit. It was a little like taking an extended master class. And because he’s also a director, he knew what I was going through in prep and in production, and he allowed for my needs."

"I tried to not forget the mistakes I’d made, but I also tried to focus on things that I find inspiring about cinema," Abrams continued. "I asked questions like 'How do we make this movie delightful?' That was really the only requirement Larry and I imposed on each other: The movie needed to be delightful. It was not about explaining everything away, not about introducing a certain number of toys for a corporation, not about trying to appease anyone. This has only ever been about what gets us excited."
I truly believe if this isn't going to be the greatest Star Wars film ever that it can still be my absolute favorite from the franchise. Bring the FUN and HUMOR back in The Force Awakens that we haven't really seen since A New Hope. Tough balance to give emotional weight to the story while also trying to give plenty of light-hearted scenes. I believe Abrams and Kasdan will do it right.

Considering I am already using Kylo Ren as my avatar here and in my alternate Viber account, I'm anticipating him to be the best villian or anti-hero since Vader and Solo. This SW7 won't be the greatest film ever, and it doesn't need to be. Most GOAT films are boring to me. But SW7 is still going to rock-n-roll just the same! Excited? Right now? Hell yeah! I will avoid anymore info as I can in a little over a month. I want to be like a child again during Christmas waiting to open his present and waiting to be surprised and awed by what is inside. The music in the TV spots is fantastic. Another great score from the great John Williams.

This is one Star Wars film that will deliver that most of the prequels couldn't. The Force is back and even stronger in this one.

You should of included a link with that quote. :)

I'm more excited about Star Wars - The Force Awakens than my birthday, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve combined next month. I just don't get excited anymore on my birthday and the Holiday season anymore. Hell, I'm more excited about this than the last FIVE iPhone releases.

This film hyperdrives me back to my youth during those more innocent times when I wasn't as jaded. I could even be weeping a little bit tears of joy if this film is as DELIGHTFUL that JJ Abrams wanted it to be and delivers the goods that Harrison Ford said it will.

Full circle. Old and new. Time to revisit our past and enjoy what made us love Star Wars in the first place while also giving us glimpses on what its promising future can bring...

I am much more excited for Rogue One. Even though we know the outcome of that film, it's going to be a lot of fun seeing people on a mission in the Star Wars universe. Of course, Felicity, Gareth and Donnie Yen don't hurt either.

Thankfully John Boyega is intriguing enough in this upcoming Star Wars film to make me see it theatrically (I've been roped into 2 screenings... but hey the perk of that is, seeing the Captain America Civil War trailer on the big screen twice.)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Captain America: Civil War

^ My two most anticipated movies during the next six months.

I just caught the trailer to Civil War looping it 5x and it actually made me more excited about Star Wars 7 and not because we are closer to opening day. I didn't jizz in my pants for CW. The music was epic (finally), but I just have a hard time believing Iron Man is the bad guy and can lose a fight to heroes like Cap and Bucky. It is as implausible as Ewoks overthrowing the Empire. Like DC trying to put Batman on Superman's level. No way. Batman would get murdered. I don't give a damn about Bruce's intellect and Tony is just as smart.

After the disappointment of Ultron and not liking Ant-Man as much as others, I think I am already burnt-out from MCU films. And this franchise looks to go on forever with 17 planned movies into next decade. Star Wars is another forever franchise. None of us will live to see their final films because their is no final film for them. Just goes on like James Bond and Godzilla. You watch Iron Man hold his own against Thor and beat Hulk with his Hulkbuster and now he is down on his knees after Cap and Bucky tag team him in a fight? Is his suit made out of tin foil like it was in Iron Man 3?

Iron Man's key ability is flight. Distance and projectiles. He would rip Captain America and Winter Soldier apart from 50 feet above. Spider-Man could beat the crap out of Cap too. Cap is nothing without his shield. I just don't buy it. And we know they will all team up to fight Thanos in Infinity Wars. Macho/WWE posturing to get the kiddies wet. Pro-Cap movie like Batman v Superman is a pro-Batman movie. No way superheroes can beat genius-level superheroes with flight and projectiles.

Star Wars is still the better morality tale. More epic music and more interesting stories. So thank you, Marvel. You actually made more excited about SW7 than your own film. MCU is becoming all style, no substance. Just like my Clippers will never win a title with DeAndre's limited offensive skills and lack of defense and urgency. MCU is becoming The Fast & Furious series just done better. Another dumb franchise with alot of smoke and mirrors. Star Wars is still The Wars, man. I will watch them both on opening day, but SW is closer to my heart. The replay value is more infinite with them.

Considering I enjoyed both JJ Abrams' "delightful" Star Trek films, I should enjoy SW much more than ST or MCU films.

My IMDb Rating Prediction:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8/10
Captain America: Civil War - 7.7/10

TFA can go as high as 8.3 but I don't see Civil War topping the first Avengers film and that was my #2 fav MCU film but felt it was a tad overrated. I preferred Winter Soldier. Maybe CW can surprise me like WS did.

I grew up with Star Wars and still love the first two films, I am very skeptical about TFA and if I walk out feeling like I was back in that universe and had fun, great. If not, bring on Captain America Civil War, while I disliked that story in the comics, I think it could be an interesting morality tale. Seeing how much the Cap series supplanted SW and other fan things I love because the films sort of mirror the excellent comic run of Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting.

I am very much looking forward to Civil War, largely to see Sebastian Stan get more than 10-15 minutes screen time because he is Bucky. And Stan and Evans have perfect chemistry together. The intimate emotional weight of this film is another draw.

I don't see Iron Man as the villain at all, but I believe Tony sees himself that way in light of the events in Ultron (which I have skipped seeing due to Joss Whedon)... So there is that conflict within himself and with his relationship with Steve; especially if Tony finds out Steve's best friend assassinated Tony's parents.

I am burnt on the comic book films too and am only seeing most of the films with characters I love.

The same applies to Star Wars, if I don't like TFA, I may see some of the stand alone films, as I keep saying Rogue One is definitely where the SW side of my brain is at right now. I do hope I will enjoy TFA but outside of Finn, I am getting a huge been there, seen that vibe from all the footage at the moment.

I've been playing the latest Star Wars game quite a bit - totally brought back my Star Wars nostalgia and some serious hype. While not expecting anything really with the movie I'm definitely going to watch it as soon as the first wave of super nerds left the cinemas.

Been also re-watching multiple times the OT now - finally got all the unedited (read: un-butchered) versions so having a real blast. Although I always seem to be in the minority by a vast margin: A New Hope is my absolute favorite of the first trilogy.

You're not alone twietee.

The first Star Wars film is my favorite as well. I refuse to call it A New Hope, for me it's just Star Wars. :)

Same here, lol. I had to double check with google since I'm always starting with "The Last Hope" but then remember it wasn't that cheesy..

I just recently tried to call it by its title, was "Star Wars" before just as well (although for me that sometimes gets confused with the complete OT, which is also "Star Wars", which also gets confused by other people who also deem the PT as part of "Star Wars" which I am not - quite complicated! ;) )

Oh, and good to see you like it as well that much - it's the most complete of the OT imo - while the others have amazing and memorable scenes which are eventually more epic too Episode IV is just perfect, pacing; start/middle/end and of course first appearance of Han and Chewie! (+ the cute little sandpeople - called Jawas or so). Only Luke looks like a tool almost all the time - but never been that much a fan of him - probably because his only real badass-ery starts in RotJ ;)

*Always laugh out loud when he first enters Dagobah, sets up shop and about to have a meal when Yoda appears for the first time and graps one of Luke's despicable food-sticks. Luke then gets angry at the old man for that - grabs it out of Yoda's hands, looks at it disgusted and throws it away. :D Imagine doing that in real life..

Well, it could be worse, you could call it "A New Last Hope..." :p

For me, the first Star Wars is the film that speaks most to my heart. Yeah so, Luke was a teenager, I forgive him. When you have that Death Star trench run what's not to like? That scene still transports me right into the universe like nothing else from the series. I always feel like I am right there... and it takes my breath away. It's a heroic and most wonderful cap to a great movie. A rare perfect film for me.

The more mature I get, the more I appreciate Han Solo. His dialogue is so useful in some real world cases too.

Above all, it's just a wildly entertaining movie. If you want to see the metaphysical, it's there. If you want to see influences, they are all there. Princess Leia also awesome (for me, no other Star Wars woman comes close to how natural and fun she was. I am hoping this will change with Felicity Jones' character in Rogue One). But back to Star Wars: if you want a great time, It's there. There's an innocence and playfulness to this film that still stands and I also appreciate that, as deep as The Empire Strikes Back can get.

:p Luke had much to learn: insulting your wise old teacher out of the gate isn't the best move.

Good idea...

.. but then again I was always bad at re-telling jokes. :D

I agree that Luke did some serious growing-up during the whole trilogy - I can appreciate that nowadays but it didn't really caught me back then. Not saying I don't like him, becaues he is sympathetic but compared to Han, Leia and Chewie (heck, even R2D2 and C3PO) he was the toughest to root for. But since I love the series, Luke's always been part of the fam of course. Dat haircut though...

Speaking of which: Han and Leia bickering is just awesome. From start to finish. Always loved both of them + Chewie of course. And I truly believe that Leia is right on top regarding female hero(ine -?) in mainstream movies. Always had the deepest respect for her. If you compare her to Portman's role in the PT it puts the latter to shame (bad writing though) - it's almost ridiculous.

No arguments on any of your points. I was very young and could relate to Luke and not Han, now that's switched. Leia remains wonderful and their true love (bickering is terrific.)

Portman, I don't like her as an actor or person. That's all I'll say there. I hope my I don't care vibes about Rey will change, but it's not looking likely. Nothing to do with Ms. Ridley herself, just that her character seems cut from the same stupidly obnoxious Joss Whedon Black Widow cloth, which I hope won't be the case.

"I don't care vibes" is a good one. I think I never saw her before but she didn't genuinely strike me as interesting - could've been the make up though. I try not to watch any trailers (except one so far). I'll go utterly unprepared except everything OT related. Those Kylo Ren, Finn and Cap. Phasma characters do look intriguing somewhat - but I thought that about Darth Maul the very first time too so I'll stay reserved. But nothing really to loose. The OT easily survived and outlived the PT - everything elase is just a bonus.

Good talking to you, Kazmac. Hope you're doing fine.

@twietee, could be better, but I'm hanging in. Nice talking to you too (thought of you as I was watching the Heroin Busters again yesterday. Hope you got a chance to see that.)

You must have missed my post about it some months ago. I like it - but it's not a movie I can just watch no matter what. Probably my expectations were too high - although I couldn't tell what I expected either, lol. I blame you for that! :D Quite likely gets better with repeated viewings when you already know what you'll be getting..

Not watching many movies lately. Doing some stuff on my own atm besides regular work and although it's fun it sucks to have no free time anymore!! Crossing fingers - one week and it's finished.

I guess I did miss that post. Hey you can blame me 100%, my joke is the director knows I am the biggest fan of that film (and I told him so when we were communicating. It does get more fun as you watch it more, I think).

Ah, hopefully this project of yours will be fruitful.

Speaking of expectations, absolutely thrilled I have none with Star Wars. That way, like it or loathe it, no worries. Besides, there's Rogue One in a year so works for me.
