This is the first app I actively use that will come in handy with Passbook. I'm hoping more apps jump on the passbook bandwagon soon, especially Southwest.

Why does Apple have anything to do with it? Apple doesn't make the Starbucks or Nectar app. Call the respective companies and complain, don't say it's Apple's fault.

If Apple wants the feature to succeed they've got to get partners to deliver good experiences to show it off and get people in the habit of using it, therefore driving demand which will encourage more apps.

However, we're now weeks after release and there literally isn't even a single UK company with a passbook app. Not one.

That really is a failure on Apple's part.

Does Costa even have a loyalty card anymore?

Oh, yes. They offer me one *every* time I go there. And I'd take one if it was passbook friendly, I just don't want, or actually have the space to carry, another card in my wallet.

I was thinking how ideal passbook would be for other companies as an A4 sheet of Burger King vouchers fell out of my newspaper the other day. Instead of having to remember to take the physical voucher with you, tear out the one you want and present it, just have them pop up on your phone when you get there.

Hopefully it will get adopted at an increasing pace, soon.

I have to agree. And the way it was demoed made it look like they'd done just that. There was a Starbucks app and several others visible at the Keynote speech. There are also Passbook apps (presumably mockups) on the display units at my local Apple Store, which is very misleading.

The whole thing is beginning to feel very piecemeal.

You want to know why Passbook will die ?

Because as usual the company's only make applications that work in US.

There is not even a Starbucks app for Europe, let alone Passbook.

Forget about Europe, Asia and South America...

Passbook needs more widespread retail/commercial adoption; MAPS needs more Data input from users. Given time, they will improve.

Unfortunately time is not given thing .. with the current generation of users it a rather scarce resource actually and often enough, if something doesn't blow away people out of the gate, they will have a trouble coming back later. Happened to Ping when the initial Facebook connect failed, many people where driven away for good.

I sure hope Passbook makes it .. I would love to use it for boarding passes. I don't think I would use it for reward cards much, but who knows.

I have a starbucks app on my iPhone. (UK)

Now all they have left to do is make their coffee good. Passbook just seems like an unneeded extra step.

UK – Odeon 30% Off voucher - Passbook option

Hey,
I've not seen anyone talking about this anywhere yet...
Just found this 30% discount voucher for Odeon UK with an "add to passbook" button.

http://www.odeon.co.uk/film30/

The button works when you access the site from your iPhone – it adds the ticket to Passbook. Only trouble is there doesn't seem to be any Barcode on the passbook ticket, unlike the PDF which you are supposed to print out to get scanned... doesn't seem to be fully working yet??

Then maybe you two shouldn't use it.

As for me when I goto pay for my coffee, all I have to do is swipe from the lock screen. ONE SWIPE vs swipe to unlock/find app/launch app

Get it yet?

I don't know about your Starbucks there, but here you queue at least 5 minutes to even order your bloody coffee - enough time to "find" my app and tap on it

UK is not Europe

So funny - you just proved so many clichés without even realising it.

Macrumors,

Could we please in future indicate that these apps are US ONLY accessible in the future? If indeed they are only accessible in the US.

Wastes my time and bandwidth checking for something I can't access, :( and just a little annoying that you concentrate on the US most of the time, this is a global site.

Thanks.

Harrison

That's good if works, it's the sort of thing that will actually be useful.

1. I have the Starbucks App for Germany which is Europe.

2. The UK is Europe, too.

And you can add gifcards and pay with Passbook ?

----------

Are you serious?

What I meant is that stating that someone lives in the UK and has it does not invalidate what I said that in Europe (generally) it does not work!

I'm not American...

I know where UK is :p

I even know where Portugal is which the CIA website does not as it points to Poland :D

Both countries don't have Starbucks (with gift card) working.

To bad Passbook isn't supported for the Canadian version, nor is it updated for iPhone 5 resolution yet.

Who cares if the Starbuck's app doesn't support iPhone 5 screen. You're using Passbook now, anyway!!

Why wouldn't a website that monitors a US company concentrate on the US most of the time? Sure, Apple's customers are global, but it focuses on the US because that is its primary market.

To quote your post: "There is not even a Starbucks app for Europe, let alone Passbook."

As the poster above me already stated, you have to be more specific or at least generally correct with your statements.

True, but at the same time, it's not been *weeks*, it's been 11 working days since iOS 6 came out. I'm pretty sure the App Store Review team have had thousands of app submitted for updates for iOS 6, iPhone 5 and so on. It might be a failure on Apple's part to cope with the amount of published apps, but it's not really their problem to make companies use it.

They demoed it and presented their vision twice on stage. Whoever did not see the potential in that (company-wise) is probably really stupid. It might take a bit of time to get it sorted.

And also, the reason there's no iPhone 5 support is because of the way they treat newly published apps. If one adds a splash screen image for iPhone 5, the minimum OS required has to be iOS 6. Hence the companies/developers that don't have iPhone 5 support yet are trying not to lock down their iOS 5 customers.

You need to be more specific in the future, dude.

I will :)
Forgot this is the Internet :D

Either way, my point is that if these new features are not implemented world wide they will not have much traction.

US is the primary market but other ones are growing really fast... as China for example and will surpass US soon for smart phones.

My point and only point is that IT PISSES ME OFF I CAN'T USE MY PASSBOOK TO BUY STARBUCKS!!!!

Fix it Starbucks! :D
