That was easy....

....and nice not to have to unlock phone to get to app. iPhone 5 worked seamlessly here in NorCal. Like how you can favorite an SBUX location and passbook kicks on when you are nearby.

Then maybe you two shouldn't use it.

As for me when I goto pay for my coffee, all I have to do is swipe from the lock screen. ONE SWIPE vs swipe to unlock/find app/launch app

Get it yet?

Relax. I am not attacking it or people who like Passbook. I simply stated that I don't understand what its advantages are.

Maybe try decaf next time you're in Starbucks.

Also in UK here and the update we got was just some kind of bug fix.

Questions for US users of the new app update:

- Does it support the iPhone 5 screen size?
- Do cards added to Passbook maintain their individual designs as shown within the Starbucks app? I have a Union Jack London Starbucks card and was wondering if it will show up in Passbook (once SB deign to update the UK app) or if it will be the generic design.

Just dont loose your iPhone. Besides, if you do, something tells me that you will probably be more upset about loosing your $300 phone compared to your $10 starbucks card.

As I said, it's not the "$10" card I'm worried about, but the fact that it's tied to my debit card with autoload. And BTW, It's no longer a $300 phone if it's lost. It's a $650 phone. ;)

At this point it's not really an issue, because my first experience with Starbucks and Passbook this morning was less than stellar. First of all, I walked into the store and it didn't pop up on my lock screen. So I had to go into PB manually, just as I would have done before with the SB app. Then, once I paid for the drink the PB card didn't update with my new balance. Went into the SB app, and it updated. Back to PB, still no update.

So I put the phone in my pocket and left the store. Got about a block away and viola, I get a notification that I'm walking into the store!! Then later, I look at PB again. Still no balance update. In the end I had to go to the SB app and "add" the card to PB again to get PB's balance to update.

Not very impressed.

I have two cards added and the digital version represents the physical version.

most of the apps already do this though. For example, I have been using the fandango app for months and it already has this built in. A notification will come on the lock screen that you just slide to and the ticket is there.

Ah ok .. I hadn't seen that before. Still slightly more elegantly with the build in system but the other solution probably works almost as well.

T.

I think you have to add a favorite store in order for it to pop-up. Otherwise, as you drive/walk by every sbux PB will kick on. (annoying)

edit: Maybe your location services wasn't awake, and it kicked in late.

Defeast the purpose

The problem with Passsbook is that it requres the original app (Starbucks, Target, etc) to be loaded onto the device...

This.

You can add up to 10 favorite store locations for the auto-popup. Otherwise, it'll be going off every 15 seconds if you're walking down a street in New York or San Fran.

I'm sure someone will make an app that does that soon.

That app already exists. It's called Key Ring and it's on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. I've been using it for several years on iOS and Android and I have all my loyalty cards scanned in so all I have to do is launch the app, tap the card I want, and the barcode appears on the screen for the merchant to scan. It also has coupons integrated for various merchants.

Apple should've just bought Key Ring. They probably will at some point assuming Key Ring is willing to sell.

And Apple themselves do not make a gift card version for passbook....

I just realllllyyy think Apple doesn't care about a lot of things. It's weird.

Just goes to show all their money/resources/people/success don't mean a thing. They still can't/won't do the most simple things.

Like producing enough adapters/cables for the iPhone 5. Supporting their own apps on their own products. Testing apps/hardware before they're ready for primetime....

Keyring just got bought out by some conglomerate. They outlined the deal in an email I think.

EDIT: Sorry I was thinking of grocery IQ. It's super chuggy now.

I don't understand why they do that either. Every app that will utilize passbook should be stored and run within passbook. What's the point of having passbook if the apps still load onto iphone independently. Clutter..

Passbook is useless to me until I can scan my own coupons, store cards, etc. and have them replicated for the app. I feel like we were led to believe it would do that anyway.

Check out Key Ring in the App Store. It already does what you're looking for. I've been using it for several years.

That explains why it isn' showing up. Thanks for clarifying. WHere did you find that out? It sounds like you know some rules about Passbook I've yet to find in my measured searches for more information about Passbook and its intricacies.

I think I read some other post on here or maybe on a site like Macworld. I knew the scanner thing from Starbucks because I have a friend who works at a "real" one and told me about the issue between those real ones and the fake ones at Kroger, Target, etc.

I've also been dying to try the feature out, so I've been consuming about every bit of information I can find. Helps to know those things before complaining about a feature not being supported. It was still better to print out tickets at home instead of seriously paying $2.50 to pick up real ones. Passbook is new, so it'll take a couple of years for it to get widespread. Hell, take a look at Best Buy's iOS apps and you'll realize that not every big company gets how a lot of us are using our phones.

You can put a passcode within the starbucks app itself to prevent this.

Anyone having issues with current balance updates in Passbook? My SB card shows the correct balance within the Startbucks App, but not in Passport. Should this happen automatically?

Thanks

I don't mean to be a douche - but are the auto updates turned on in passbook under the sbux pass? I haven't tried mine yet but as many are doing things like turning off location services and whatnot there may be something from keeping the default-on auto updates off.

Just click the 'i' on the pass to flip it over and look. At the top it says when it was last updated which could help give an indication what exactly is wrong (if it says "just updated" but the balance is wrong, there might be a problem with the pass - if it hasn't been updated in a while, could be a problem with the connection, auto updates and such).

Whoa -- I just downloaded Key Ring. This already exists, and Apple still released and promoted a new native app that doesn't even function as well as this? Seriously, couldn't they have foreseen people would be annoyed at having to download additional apps (or use other websites), requiring additional user accounts, personal information, etc. just to make Passbook function?

I, too, will hope it gets a total reboot but it's one more example of iOS6's failures.

Valid question.. Yes, auto updates option is set to Yes.
