I seemed to have run into a bug that is annoying. So my active mission does not show up on the scanner of where to go, but one of my inactive missions. Say I'm doing something on Cheyenne, but instead the game is telling me to talk to Sam Coe. That mission (and all missions) are showing inactive other then the one I have on Cheyenne, yet the marker is pointing me back to my ship

This seemed to have started around the time I wrapped up the Crimson tide stuff yesterday.

It's the stupid "show all active markers" setting. Not sure why they have it when they have 1 design for markers. Its really confusing. Go to the "missions" menu and hit whatever key changes it to "show only active targets", which is "view" on an Xbox controller.

I’ve been traveling for the last week so I’ve not played Starfield during that time. Home now. In Skyrim, I keep all quests active because that places markers on the map. In Starfield as a matter of habit, I’ve activated all my quests there, and as you know the map is basically non existent when planetside, I’ve seen where on the horizon are several map markers for each quest. One of those markers might be for my ship, telling me I have to go somewhere else. My guess for this game, as the map sucks, I should deactivate all but the current quest. But after reactivate to make sure there are no local quests I’ve overlooked before leaving planet. 🤔

Questions, cause I have not tested this yet:
  • When on a planet for any specific location/zone, do you have the freedom to just start walking in a direction to explore, are there are boundaries to the zone, or can you jump the fence so to speak and travel out into the country? I’m thinking of the survey the planet scenario.
  • So if there are multiple locations shown on a planet, can you navigate on the ground from one place to another, or, does it require a launch into space?
  • And when you launch into space from the planet, it is the same situation, local space only with hard Zone boundaries or could you spend days flying (without jumping) and actually see things?

1. Yep, each world is "open" many of the planets are procedurally generated so there will be random things there. Creating outposts will also allow you to mine resources and what not.

2. when landing on a planet you can select the location if there's multiple. After landing bring up the planet and select the other location and you may be able to jump/land/fast travel there.

3. You don't want to fly to planets as much as navigate to them, but yes you can spend time there. You want to go to Venus after visiting Mars, click on Venus in map, and select navigate

Have you noticed since Starfield came out, all around the internet people are talking about the game, sharing advise and their stories.

So if you had to pick a side between the United Colonies or Freestar Collective, who would it be? Because I know my pick: Freestar no questions asked

The UC shoves bureaucracy so much that to even become a citizen in their space you need to serve time in the military. I'm starting to think the real reason humanity's lost the desire to explore space anymore is because the UC made it boring, because who wants to explore the stars if it involves a lot of paperwork? Plus the reason the Colony War even happened in the first place was because of the UC's overreach encroaching on the Freestar's right to colonize. There's plenty of space for everyone in space, but the UC can't have that now can they? Gotta have a tight grip on their systems when all we want is to be left alone.

Really? Perhaps I'm early on but I'm not enjoying the Freestar questline at all. Just planet hopping to talk to someone and needing to follow a person to the destination. I just tracked down Maya Cruz and that was largely underwhelming

You're a Freestar Ranger son. You're just a simple lawman in a vast galaxy, on the hunt to uncover a criminal conspiracy.

Just remember there's great weight carrying that badge. It's up to you to keep folks safe when no one else will. Anyone who doesn't respect the badge, make them respect it

21Sep23- Last night opened my eyes a bit. I’m doing the second main quest with Sara in tow as we make the rounds of the Sol System. I decided since I’m here I should do some surveying. I guess I’m not surprised you can’t land on Earth, so I landed on the Moon which initially showed as 90% surveyed. As soon as I stepped onto the surface, another ship landed about 900 meters away. I ran over there with Sara. No clue what kind of ship it was, but there were people who I think were hostile, I discovered they were Crimson Fleet, and this was a Crimson Fleet Phantom Ship. Anyway I fired first thinking they were pirates, and maybe they are criminals? Afterwards research indicates they are a faction of pirates. There were about 5 of them, killed everyone outside and then the ship took off. 😕

Rollback save- Killed everyone outside, boarded ship killed 2 crew members in there, then pondered how will I work this, what about my other ship? What kind of ship is this? There was no ID or way to pull up specs about this ship. So I walked off the ship, and… it took off! Autopilot? No clue. 😐

Lesson learned- When you walk into a ship you don’t own, you have to decide then and there to steal it, take it, or just loot it and leave. More experimentation needed to see if ships typically fly away like this.

Rollback Save- Researched this to discover that if you take off, this is your new ”home” ship. The Frontier (starter ship) will go into your hanger, all the occupants, gear and stowed content will transfer over to your new ship automatically.

Sara- does not like it when I steal things, even from pirates… 🤔

Abandoned facility- There maybe limits, on how far you can go, but the Moon was impressive. I saw some kind of a rig in the distance, ran over there, saw a what apoareed to be abandoned mining facility, but there was stuff to loot and just as I was leaving…

Bounty mission- a guy came around the corner and said “hello, do you want to help me collect a bounty?” Sure, why not! :D Another 900m jaunt to another mining facility, fought about 7 NPCs, collected gear and half the bounty.

Surveying- I surveyed most of the time I was on the Moon (F, E keys) and now it says “surveyed” not “90”. There is supposed to be some place to get credit for this…

Contraband- One of the things I picked up on the ship was contraband. That could be an issue , but the word is, a shielded cargo will hide it from scanning authorities If you store it on the ship.

Another issue is that the entire ship as it is stolen is considered contraband, so how does that work if you fly it back to New Atlantis and land?
Is it confiscated?
Are all stolen pirate ships contraband?
It could be because of how they are outfitted Or any stolen ship?
But then why does it make a difference if you registered it?

More research- I opted to fly to the Wolf System and The Den where I could sell my contraband, and “Register” my ship, which cost just a thousand credits less than the entire worth of the ship. If not registered, you can’t upgrade it. As is, this ship is mostly upgraded, without alteration.

Crimson Fleet Phantom (Ship)- Is what I discovered I had at the Ship Technician in The Den. And it’s specs are better than the Frontier, although it looks kind of junky, but it has 4 beds, and I want to say the Frontier (starter ship) only has one bed? Both of these ships are listed as 2 crew. I assume that means 2 stay on board followers. Anyway I’m flying this for now- better armed, better performance, shielded cargo bay… Named it Crimson Tide, but I may rename it, My Junk Bucket… 🙃

…No you don’t have to. Just land on the Moon, and odds are there will be one there begging to be hijacked. :D
Crew vs Followers- I recruited Vasco, but now Sara is following me, and he is staying on the ship.
Can you have 2 followers, follow you, or just one? If not using Vasco as a follower, I’m thinking he is just taking up space as a crew member, as a different crew member, could bring extra capabilities to the ship? As a rule I prefer human company. 🤔

That whole theme is lame and does not fit very well with the rest of the starfield universe imo.

I believe only one companion at a time, but since I play solo, I'm not the best source. You manage the crew in the ship screen on the main page to manage your inventory. You can assigned/un-assign crews. I think if you make someone part of your crew and is your companion, when you dismiss them they stay on the ship. Also each companion provides skills, to enhance your space travel and finally bigger ships and skill levels will give you the opportunity for larger crews. The class A ships are more limited but class B and C offer larger accomodations

You can go to the Eye and sell survey data to Vladimir, or go to Trade Authority locales. I believe Vladimir pays better though.

You actually can land on Earth. You gotta unlock the landing sites which are unlocked by finding snow globes of Earth landmarks like Big Ben or the St Louis Arch, then you get to explore the ruins of those landmarks for treasure.

This game is turning into something AWESOME. :D I'll find a link for this...

I'll give it a try and see what I think. I'm getting so side tracked, I'm suppose to run down some mortgage vagrants to help pay for my dream house, and I'm doing everything else.

I read to upgrade your pilot skills, you've got to shoot up enemy ships. Is there any special place to do this? This is something I need to do for getting into the bigger better ships...
