I just got a 7+ today, week 36 black and it has the problem.

All you have to do to check for the problem is record a video of yourself snapping your fingers in a quiet room. When I play the video back there is a burst of static following the finger snap sounds.
Just tried this and you're so right. That's definitely a weird sound and maybe isolates it to something wrong with the mic or noise cancelation like you guys have been saying. Here's a video of it:

Replaced with a week 38 phone this morning (I had to reserve one on the IUP). No problems anymore. Good luck everyone still suffering from those issues. These things are frustrating but bound to happen due to the sheer scale of demand.

Basically. Get it replaced!
So you don't hear any static when recording a video now?

i honestly did not notice this until a came across this thread i havent tried to take a video until last night and but of course static ugh

What's IUP? What was the process?

You need not even have to use video to capture this as Voice Memo recordings capture the same effect...

No static when recording silent videos?

No. not anymore. Also had static in phone calls. All good now. Good luck to you all that still have the issue. Book a Genius Bar appointment and go through as many phones as you need to to be happy. Luckily for me it took 1. I went to a library to test it and no issues.

Excellent news mate. Contacted apple they went through all troubleshooting issues and they told me to get my device replaced. So going to get it replaced tomorrow hopefully and see how it goes. Did you get a refurb or a brand new boxed one?

Mine definitely has a bad static issue when recording video. Someone posted on another thread to just give it time and not take stock from others right now by getting my device replaced.

Do I only have the 14 days to replace or can it be done any time? (I have AppleCare, if that makes a difference)?

Should I buy AppleCare before going to Genius bar tomorrow or can I hold off?

Did you have them record video at the store to make sure there was no static?

I bet all has this problem some has more some has less. Not sure if apple is going to do something about this. Imo this is an electrical design issue that require design change this will take time. I returned my 7+ for bluetooth car audio issue but if apple wanted to fix this it will be sometime next year. My 6s+ is dead quiet. Good luck guys

Hey, the replacement phone has no issues with video recording?

Is it possible that when you are recording video in a quiet environment, the microphone gain is increased to pick up quiet sounds and this injects noise into the recording?

Kind of like blown out bright spots when the camera is trying to focus on a dark object?

If this is the case, it's definitely software fixable.

And also, if anyone has an aftermarket microphone, that would be a good test piece to see if the issue persists.

These mic issues also do not explain why when you listen closely to the back of the phone, you can hear the electrical current / static. Not present on prior models. I've test 3 different iPhone 7s and all have it.

Also the noise spikes when you swipe the display or open an app which, if you're listening to audio over bluetooth, causes the audio to skip a bit or have a static sound.

Really would love to see video proof.

My phone now is picking up sounds from the back of the phone and it wasn't before. Damn it! Going to apple to exchange it

Please let us know if you manage to get a replacement that does not have the issue as well. Much appreciated. Thank you!

Apple support told me that I should get it replaced at Apple or a retailer that's authorized. However I dunno if my local Apple Store has week 38-39 shipment in yet

Two week return period. After that, you're basically at Apple's mercy: will they exchange it as a defective unit or not?
And with Apple Care instead of a two week return period you basically have 2 years?

Actually older models have this too, I listened to my old 5s and 5 and they also made those sounds.
