"which is you ever-so-slightly moving your index finger..."

which seems to mean it's FREE free. not limited free.

or, you can just stop reading whenever the words back up what you think... regardless of what is actually true. or what the words actually say.

try finishing the words next time, THEN making a decision. derp.

well how much does it cost normally?

and if i download it now, do I not need to pay for it once the trial period is over?

This is so awesome.

Just picked up Portal (duh) and Torchlight (50% off!)

Thinking about Dragon Age, which I have for Xbox, but I can tell it will be superior on a computer. If the mac port sucks, I can still play it on PC.

*bows down in praise of Steam*

Tf2 and killing floor both vanished from my games list.. I'm guessing they're for next week? I want my KF fix. ;)

if you download steam between now and may 24th, you have Portal "in your account" forever.

Even if you don't finish downloading Portal until May 25th, it will still work.

this isn't an extended free play weekend. They do those all the time and everybody who has done one knows that there is a timer.

there is no timer on portal right now, so it is REALLY FREE to anyone who downloads steam before may 24th. once you've got it, it is part of your account.

Guess I'm taking up the bandwidth. I'm currently downloading at 3.2MBs

Yes you are, hurry up. I've only peaked at 246.3KB/s. I am currently chugging slow at about 100KB/s. And I've actually bought portal. :(

Makes sense, with portal 2 on the way.

Pulling down Portal at 1.1MB/s here. Peak was a meg and a half.

As a non gamer this is some really exciting stuff. server is too busy to download Portal right now, can't wait to get my hands on torchlight. Steam however seems a little buggy as of current. Had it crash twice already.

Ok, so here's a question ... sorry, I'm not clued up on how this is going to work for Mac users who used to use Windows.

I've signed into my Steam account, but there's no sign of Half Life 2 for the Mac yet.

I've bought Half Life 2 when it launched on PC, and still have my copy here.

When Half Life 2 comes out for the Mac via Steam, will I be able to download it for free since I've already paid for the Windows version?

Cheers.

Well, to all of you thinking that free Portal isn't free forever...
First, all free-for-weekends games always appeared in your library without asking your interest in it (like was with Killing Floor, Modern Warefare and many other) and there was a time period shown for how long you can play that trial.
Second, if you go Steam -> Preferences -> Account History you'll see that Portal is considered to be bought, even though for free. While trials are never shown in Account history.
Sooooo Portal is available for free until 24th may, not is free until then:)

It's not available yet, they're working on the other games in the Source engine. You'll be able to download it for free.

I don't play pc games only console but this might get me into Mac gaming, and the offers look great too, 5 steamplay indie pack for £14.99!!

Why does it keep pausing my download?

I was getting ~700KB now I'm only getting ~250KB...

Im getting an error when i try to launch steam saying

" Steam could not create directory /users/name/Library/Application Support/Steam"

Then right after that error another saying

"Steam requires (above directory) be created on a case insensitive filesystem, with read-write access"
