If you've never registered it with Steam, you will have to. I assume you have a boxed copy on multiple CD's along with a serial. You will have to register that serial for Half Life 2 on Steam.

Steam for Mac Now Live, Portal is Free Until May 24th

Uhoh! On my MBP I cant see through the portals in Portal! Which is a bit of a game-breaker. XD
Its a good start anyway.. I'll redownload it, see if that helps. In no rush..
As for the people saying that its time limited. Reading comprehension lapse. This is a *free copy* of Portal.. I've taken part in free weekends and am used to Steam, they'd never word it like this if it's going to die on us.
They're trying to hook the mac userbase, the windows users already most likely already have Portal, so this is perfectly sensible and just like them. If they give you one demo that times out then you delete steam when it times out. If they give you something worth keeping you'll have to keep Steam installed on your Mac - then they can advertise/sell stuff to you.

Steam just isn't happening for me. It wouldn't load the next page when I click the big red 'Get Portal Now' button, nothing loads..

Here's hoping that 10.6.4's OpenGL tweaks brings Portal to my 7600GT odd to not see it on there, but the X1600 is.

Got the same error other reported since I'm running a case-sensitive FS. Oh well, sucks to be me I guess 'cos I'm not reformatting just to play a game.

Mine is a UK DVD edition, and I just went to my Library on Steam and clicked "Add A Game".
When I entered my serial number it told me to install Half Life 2, which obviously I can't do on my Mac because it's a PC/Windows DVD!
Ugh, 6% left to download after an hour of waiting. No wonder why I usually only play games on 360 and PS3...
FFS, go to the goddamn Portal page in Steam.

Meh. What is going on with steam?? It keeps telling me i must have a connection to the internet which i am. Is anyone else getting this message???
Steam appears to have shafted something in my user account and I'm getting app crashes related to NSCFDictionary all over the place.
Yeah I am. I have a feeling its cause im at school. Its weird because the update gets to about 75% then gives me the error.
It's the standard-message when Steam can't reach the servers in a reasonable timeframe.
Connection problems when millions of people all try to get new game all at the same time.

OMG I just played Portal now with my 9600M activated, It's AMAZING! Much better than Crossover Games
Oh and the best thing: You can CMD+TAB out of the game and do anything else while it seamlessly plays! You can also use EXPOSÉ with it! Try doing that in Windows, once you're in full screen, you have to quit the game to do anything else there!

Downloading my free copy of Portal at the moment, taking a rather long amount of time, not reaching my max. download speed by a long shot. < Figures alot of Mac users are eager to download this stuff right now
Also downloading the Torchlight demo, if you haven't noticed yet, it's 50% off for the full game, but I'd like to try the demo first, before I buy anything.
