Email to Steve jobs: go **** yourself. I'm going google from now on you greedy, rude ******* :D

The more Steve emails, the more I like HTC android.

I'm in San Diego California and I have two iPhones, both work fine, not having that "problem"

San Diego represent!!! I too have two phones and have never dipped below 4 bars and that is since launch! It's a location thing really!

The real problem is that nearly 3 million iPhone 4's have been shipped and people are just discovering that ATT has really bad coverage.

For example, say that I live in Utah and decide that I want an iPhone. I've only used Verizon before and they do a good job them with my calls. I get the iPhone 4 and activate it. My service is always low and my calls are dropped continuously. I blame Apple even though I don't realize that ATT in my area(Utah) is lousy to begin with!

That is what I think the majority of these posters are complaining about. They don't realize that the service sucked to begin with and think it's their phone.

--- I used Utah as an example, I have no idea what there service really is. Think dead zone though.

Hello, I hope this email meets you in good health;

I have sum 8.7 million USA dollars I want to move to you for joint investment in your country, as it will favour us if we can be sincere to both parties....... :D

Lol, I would guess about half the people on this thread sent you PMs asking to help out.

Exactly. Though it would be difficult to say the least to get anywhere close to 20 dB improvement on the link.

B

Yeah I would say a 20db gain would take some amazing leap in antenna technology. I don't think moving it outside the case would do that. Which makes the test results disturbing, I am just not sure how disturbing :D

Some people had suggested the phone might have a software controlled antenna tuner that could help, I poked around on that some and it just does not seem very likely.

Unfortunately I think people will need to either wait it out with a case or return their phone if it is not working out for them. No one is going to charge you a restocking fee. I am sure Apple will come up with a solution eventually (even if fake emails and fake csr instruction suggest otherwise).

Stupid analogy unless they are talking about suddenly moving the camera lens to where people have normally held their iPhones through all previous generations. Then yeah, they would have a legitimate complaint about suddenly putting their fingers over the lens
If you are not capable of EASILY holding a phone w/o covering that one area you are probably too stupid to have a job to afford the phone in the first place. And cell phones FOR YEARS have come with disclaimers about holding the phone in certain areas that a normal person would hold them and cause signal issues.

Again..what is causing all these distraught people from simply returning something they are EXTREMELY dissatisfied with? How stupid is that?

Except that the exact same complaints about the dodgy reception are coming in from the UK, France, Germany and Japan, where the coverage doesn't suck. Not to mention people who have their own microcells and still get 'no service' on the iPhone 4 when it's held "incorrectly". Next theory please.

Yes, I lose reception by making any type of contact with the iPhone 4.

OK, now we've gone too far. Any type of contact? What if you balance it on one finger? Or if you grip it between your index and middle fingers on the top left corner? How many bars do you lose then?

Next we'll be hearing that people are losing reception because they are thinking about losing reception. iPhone 4: the first cell phone that is attenuated by human thought! :p

You know, I have to say, as an owner of an affected iPhone 4 (upgraded from a 3GS, which in turn had been upgraded from a 1st gen), I was completely fine with giving Apple the benefit of the doubt and letting this issue work itself out. I'm sure they'll eventually do the right thing by their customer.

That is, until Steve Jobs told me I was holding it wrong, buy a bumper, there's nothing wrong with the phone.

What a douchebag. I'll likely not be a ruturning customer next time around.

Stop complaining and return it now. If you are truly unhappy with the service/phone, than get rid of it. You still have time to do so without a penalization. What's the problem? Stop teh bitching!!! :D

P.S. My iPhone 4 is FLAWLESS!!! :eek::eek::eek:

On a serious note, I'm sure that there will be some compensation, one way or another. It's Apple here after all.

This post demonstrates exactly what I feel is happening to many customers right now. Apple is blowing its good image and losing a lot of people by disrespecting them and treating them like idiots.

Maybe people should stop believing everything they read. There has been one confirmed statement from Apple on this issue. None of the Steve emails should be considered valid unless you happen to have some magic way to confirm email that the rest of us lack.

I am not saying this is not an issue. Who knows that maybe Apple didn't insulate the external band right or whatever, but this behavior is not unique to the iPhone 4.

You are only fooling yourself. This behavior is unique to the iPhone 4. No other phone has been demonstrated to have this level of a signal loss based on how the phone is held in a bare hand.

There is a reason so many people are upset over this, and it's not just because they decided to hate on the iPhone 4.

the fix

The current fix is simple:

If you plan to use the i4 where there is less than -90 dBm of cellular signal, and you often hold the phone covering the lower left, and you are intellectually, emotionally or physically disabled from changing the way you hold your cell phone, then buy a bumper or a case.

If you are cheap and/or feel that you are entitled to a free bumper (or maybe even a free ferrari plus a magic unicorn), and one isn't forthcoming, then please return your i4. There are other waiting customers who would love to deal with this problem. I know a couple women who always use their cell phones inside cases, and they want the delivery time to get shorter.

If you touch, with one fingertip, the black strip on the lower left corner you will lose around 24db of signal strength. This may result in going from 5 bars to 0, depending on how strong your 5-bar signal really is. This effect has been repeatedly video recorded and posted all over the internet. That's what we're talking about.

It's not a "death grip." It's a "grip of death." It kills reception, but you don't have to squeeze hard or cover the entire antenna with your finger.

The hope of a fix and the fact it costs them money to return it. It would be 'stupid' to return it if they are going to fix the issue, and obviously there is no chance of it getting fixed if people aren't complaining.

So stand out of the way and you get your turn to bitch if the bitching continues after the return windows are closed.

Hell, this one is in a case!

Yes, the 4 is a bit more sensitive, but those iPhones all dropped signal being held where the antenna is.

Enough waiting on Apple, or the courts...

Go to the FCC and file an on-line complaint:

http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm

It is quick and painless. Ask them to decertify the iPhone 4 since for a large number of owners it is a safety hazard because they lose access to 911 emergency services if they hold the phone.

In addition to bitching on a forum, that does no good, file a complaint and tell everyone you know with an iPhone 4 that is having issues to go to http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm and file a complaint also.

Maybe your taking it too far. I think they mean holding the phone in any fashion. Not with a single finger.

Yes, of course; I was being facetious.

But as long as they don't hold it in a way that bridges the antennas, there will be no problem. I just thought the "any type of contact" line was a bit too much.
