Really? Well how about the fact that my in store experience 100% verified every accusation? Was that just made up, too?

You were not allowed to return an iphone? You would be the first. That they tried to show you how to avoid the problem?

There is a long road between genius and company policy. Your story might be interesting as another anecdote, and means a whole lot more to me than any of the bogus emails I have seen. It just has little to do with the point I was responding to :)

The current fix is simple:

If you plan to use the i4 where there is less than -90 dBm of cellular signal

And we would know that how? It drops 5 bar signal calls when the phone is picked up.

Please, stop shilling. And calls to return it at customer expense before there is no hope for a fix? Don't be even further shilllish. A defective product needs people complaining about the defect, and they are under no obligation to return it at their cost just to make your corporate masters happy.

Get your masters to announce they will return all money's spent on the product with the return so all that's been wasted is the customer's valuable time and you might have a point - until then please stop your whining about legitimate consumer complaints.

It is funny how pissed people are getting. If you don't like it, don't buy it. That is how business works. Ranting all day on the internet is just a waste of time. If you really want to rant, call or email the company with a formal complaint.

Only 24?! Not a problem in the "Age of Obama's 'Spread the Wealth!' theme".

Just e-mail Jobs and with all of Jobs' billions, ask him to spread the wealth so that you may retire! :D   :apple:

WOW!!! You are kidding me! Isn't it a bannable offense to bring politics up in these forums? What did you messiah Beck tell you to do today? Bitch about Obama? NM, your not worth the time.

You are a very noble warrior. Steve Jobs appreciates your loyalty.

You first say it is unique to the 4, I post videos of older iPhones doing the exact same thing, and now you say I am a noble warrior being loyal to Jobs......

What more do you want?

This is getting blown way out of proportion, I don't blame Steve for getting mad. A handfull of iPhones get less than perfect reception in area's that have low signal strength to begin with and it's somehow Apples fault? If Steve says it's a non issue then it's a non issue deal with it. If you're not happy with your iphone then take it back and get a POS Android phone. Stop whining like spoiled children.

"When creating iPhone 4, Apple designers and engineers didn’t start with a clean sheet of paper. They started with three years of experience designing and building the phones that redefined what a phone can do. iPhone 4 is the result of everything they’ve learned so far."

I think the thing that will be hard to accept is the egg on face that has resulted from this revolutionary antennae design... that has been PROVEN scientifically to be worse than standard designs. Ranging from just degrading to making you lose calls. Quite the innovation.

Thats a lot of pride to swallow and admit there is a flaw. It wont happen. Silent fix being worked on for the White iPhone 4s guaranteed.

Ranting about ranting fail

If you touch, with one fingertip, the black strip on the lower left corner you will lose around 24db of signal strength. This may result in going from 5 bars to 0, depending on how strong your 5-bar signal really is. This effect has been repeatedly video recorded and posted all over the internet. That's what we're talking about.

It's not a "death grip." It's a "grip of death." It kills reception, but you don't have to squeeze hard or cover the entire antenna with your finger.

I have an idea . . . don't touch the black strip with your finger tip! :D

See, you were very specific with your comment. As you pointed out, I know that if the antennas are bridged in that spot there is a problem. I get it. But the other poster said "any type of contact," which would include touching the phone anywhere. That is simply not true and taking things too far.

Ranting about ranting fail

I am not ranting, I was making a comment about something I thought was funny. I provided a solution which ranting doesn't. Ranting complains about the problem and provides no solution. Also, the word "fail" is overused and not even funny anymore, mainly because of the way you used it. Thanks though for the laugh! Have a great day!

Exactly!

Waiting for the new batch of white ones! ;)

bumpers

Apple should just include bumpers with the phone. Mine reception is a non-issue - with the bumpers on...

Yet another ridiculous Apple-fanboy reply. We DID buy it already and that's why we don't like it, smart one.

Are scenarios like

- "I sold it on craigslist/eBay"
- "I gave it to my brother/sister/mom/cousin/buddy"
- "When I bought the iPhone 4, I switched my old SIM card for a micro-SIM which my old phone won't accept"

entirely unfamiliar/implausible to you?

Then why buy a first generation (and this is a first generation of a totally new design) product when you have to have the funds from the sell of the one before it to buy the other? It's just a cell phone, seriously. Not a major life purchase like a car or house (where I can certainly understand needing to sell the previous before purchasing a new one). And does no one keep an old back up phone just in case of need? There are times in owning a glass (breakable) screen phone that it might be broken and/or out of commission for a while (getting repaired, etc). It's a good practice to have an older fall back phone laying around. If not, I'm sure someone you know has an old SIM card accepting phone laying around.

And as far as the "micro-SIM" issue, AT&T will gladly re-issue you/give you an older SIM card for other devices when you return the iPhone 4. They have for everyone else, because you actually have to return the micro-SIM as well. They can't leave you without a SIM card totally.

Most people here are simply complaining about misdirected whining.

If you have a problem take it up with Apple, the FCC, AT&T, Orange, the attorney general, etc.. Posting here is not helping them. There has not been one person to post and say they were forced to pay a restocking fee when returning the phone. A few people were asked to, but it was quickly dropped.

People are getting more upset about the problem because some moron writes into BGR and claims he had an email conversation with steve jobs, BGR is gullible (and greedy) enough to post it, and then the rest of the online tech blogs pick it up. They are simply feeding the page view machine, getting themselves unnecessarily upset, and doing nothing at all to solve their problem.

It's almost impossible to not touch it there.

1) when using the phone, I hold it in my left hand, as I'm right handed and need to keep my right hand free to open doors, etc. If I don't hold it there, it feels like it will slip out of my hand, and I'm pretty sure Apple won't give me a new one if I smash it.

2) when using it running apps, I hold it in my left hand.

In short, it's designed so as to be touched in exactly the spot it shouldn't be touched. The NUMEROUS photos of steve jobs holding it that way, ads showing people holding it that way, etc., should prove that to you.

I actually only own a couple MAC products. I am more of a PC user myself. If you don't like it, take it back. It is called common sense. If you own a business, and you are selling products that have issues, you either fix it, or you lose a ton of money. Apple is a business who can do whatever they want just like anyone else. They don't have to do anything for you. If you don't like their products, don't buy them and return what you have. It is that simple.

Again, what does any of that have to do with it dropping calls in places where no iPhone before did?

I get it. In your location, the signal drop and more sensitive external antenna causes you to drop the call. Now return the phone and go back the the older iPhone or buy another phone.

I am done discussing this.

...that has been PROVEN scientifically to be worse than standard designs.

An antenna (plus RF subsystem) that can get a reliable connection with -113 dBm is BETTER than most other cell phones.

If you are stuck out in the woods in a medical emergency with -112 dBm from the nearest cell site, which phone would you rather have?

Why do they allow Jobs to answer email? CEO's are not really the best PR people. They are driven people who are very single minded and say what they think.

If you have a problem take it up with Apple, the FCC, AT&T, Orange, the attorney general, etc..
I have.
Posting here is not helping them. There has not been one person to post and say they were forced to pay a restocking fee when returning the phone. A few people were asked to, but it was quickly dropped.
And your point is? That we should assume that return policy has changed without official word from the company before hand? Seriously?

People are getting more upset about the problem because some moron writes into BGR and claims he had an email conversation with steve jobs, BGR is gullible (and greedy) enough to post it, and then the rest of the online tech blogs pick it up. They are simply feeding the page view machine, getting themselves unnecessarily upset, and doing nothing at all to solve their problem.
And neither are you - again, your point?
