This issue comes down to if you want to buy a bumper or case for your iPhone 4. If you are willing to, then GREAT. You will be enjoying the hell out of your iPhone 4.

If you don't want to buy a case or bumper because you'd rather have a "naked and pretty" phone that has reception issues and in turn allows you to continue to whine and bitch about it, then by all means do that. Go ahead and whine and bitch until you're blue in the face. Then when the return window is about to pass by, GO RETURN IT! Move on with your lives. Sad lives, but lives none the less.

People like this is why steve jobs thinks he is gonna get away with this. He is not.

You may be holding your breath and actually shoot yourself in the foot because of it. Trust me they are not going to take returns after the return window and you will not have a case.

Are you willing to accept your own personal responsibility if this happens and you miss the opportunity to return the product?

Hey Shin3R.. there will be no shooting in the foot here -- I am waiting until the last day in my 30 day return window (maybe a day or two before that), or for an official Apple Statement, whatever comes first.

I definitely won't hold out hope on an official statement after my window expires :)

AT&T or Apple? I called AT&T and they said I had 30 days to return it, the last day being the 14th of July! They start counting from the day the new contract went into effect, the day you called to pre-order, not the day it arrived.

Just FYI: I have an iCal event to remind me.

I think everyone needs to take a step back and just "relax" :D

Haha. No seriously guys... give Apple a chance to solve this. It seems to me that there are a lot of factors and issues at play here. For some people there clearly exists a problem. SJ is right... its just a bit of hardware... dont sweat it. If there is a serious problem, Apple will put it right.

The iPhone 4 is an amazing device with the most amazing screen I have ever seen. Everyone here is talking like its a piece of crap.

^^Emphasis added

Why don't people stop spewing garbage when they have no idea what they're talking about? It does NOT require a tight grip, or to wrap the whole hand around in a special way. It only requires the skin to contact the antenna seam.

Yep...I have reproduced the problem on multiple iPhone 4's using one finger. Full 3G signal strength drops to no service in about 30 seconds. There's no debating the antenna issue and SJ is simply doing what apple's lawyers are instructing him to do...deny, deny, deny...until they figure out how to handle the issue. Meanwhile, two class action lawsuits are already in the works due to the restocking fees and AT&T's contract cancellation fees that are applied if someone wants to return their defective iPhone4.

Haha. That's exactly what I'm doing; retiring and relaxing. The "reception issue" does not affect my daily use of the phone. I think all this hysteria is ridiculous.

People like this is why steve jobs thinks he is gonna get away with this. He is not.

Have you returned your iPhone 4? Do you plan on returning it within your 14 or 30 days if he/Apple hasn't released a "statement" regarding the issue? If you haven't, and don't plan to, I'd say he's probably "gonna get away with this."

Its ridiculous to think that it would if its not affecting you... duh.

for those that lost the ability to make phone calls from locations the 3GS could with ease when being held normally, this is a product defect issue.

If you aren't personally having the problem why comment at all?

To let you know there two sides to every story
and not all iphone 4's are having this issue.

The Mars rovers know that! ;) I wouldn't if I was living just 3 miles to the north where the signal is so strong the iP4 doesn't need a functional antenna at all to get 5+ bars.

Oh, I don't know, maybe it's because that would just inflate any problems further and give you all the ability to say that "everyone" is having this problem. Isn't this why statistics can be so messed up. I think both people with and without problems should be able to comment.

I don't hold ALL my devices like that, it's how I hold a phone and hold it comfortably. Each to their own. And it's not a "fingertip" hold to the point where you are only touching it with the bare minimum contact possible.

Below is three angles of how I hold my iPhone, 3G before it and now the iPhone 4. Notice on the third shot, the black "line" is visible, albeit just. That's not me "accommodating" on Jobs part, that's how I hold an iPhone comfortably.

That's how I hold my phone as well. Any other way is not holding it normally.

I was skeptical in the other thread whether this was true or not, but this certainly calls things into question:

If you're shopping around a set of emails looking for money, it doesn't say good things about your credibility... especially with the ease with which emails can be forged.

This doesn't suprise me. What does suprise me are how easily led people are.

But to say the other side in indulging in 'hysteria'? You're supporting that? Again, the defect is by design, all phones have it. I bet if anyone with an iPhone 4 came over to my house and let me pick up the phone, the call would drop. Yes it might even involve how electrically conductive the person's skin is (I know from experience mine is 'very').

But comments like 'I don't have a problem (which anyone in a high 3G coverage area wouldn't) so everyone who is is hysterical' is not commenting, its trolling.

The God of the Mobiles has spoken!

Guess that solves it, doesn't it? All of us who have held all our cellphones differently through out time are 'abnormal'.

thanks for clearing that up shill.

Jobs replied yet again to claim that the customer "may be working from bad data" and reiterate his earlier suggestion that customers should "stay tuned." Jobs also noted that Apple is "working on it", although it remains unclear exactly how the company is planning to address the issue.
.....LOL! Anyone else imagining all the kids that got "swallowed" at the WONKA CANDY FACTORY? And then, there's "Charlie" the last one, the one the was the most patient and stood in the longest lines, and made it through all the obsticles he had to go through. Only to hear Willy Wonka turn around to him and yell, "TOO BAD, CHARLIE!! YOU LOSE!! GOOD DAY!!"

Maybe before this is all over, We'll win a tour the "top secret" APPLE-FACTORY.....(WOW....No one's seen Steve Jobs in a top hat, lurking around have they)??

That's what all this makes me think of!

haha.... Now it appears the guy who claims these emails were between him and Steve Jobs has been shopping them around to the highest bidder who apparently was "Boy Genius Report". Can anyone say "lack of credibility"?

And all the people here who got worked up based on this crap.HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

non-issue my @ss

7 days left to return it, which is what I'll do if they can't do something about it in the meantime...

Thanks BobVB -- Very good to know - and I did get it from ATT and will plan on returning it no later than July 13th, just to be extra safe!

Cheers!

My phone is getting worse and worse. The 3G signal isn't good at all. I'm so frustrated. I have a case on it too. All day i haven't been able to access 3G quickly. It's worse than Edge speeds. I'm home now and i've used 3G in my house when my Wi-Fi has been out and it worked fine. There have been times i've been home and was using 3G on accident and was shocked how fast in was in my home. NOW NOTHING WILL LOAD. I'M FURIOUS. Sorry...but there is something different with this phone for sure. I'm going to call AT&T now.

EDIT: OK So i called AT&T. I feel much better. I think reading so much negative stuff got me pissed. They said there have been tower problems in my area all day. She said in about an hour it should all be resolved. :)

A touch hypocritical when every single "hater" on here is proclaiming that the way Jobs holds the phone in the keynote, which incidentally cuts off the signal, is the way everyone holds their phone.

At the end of the day, people are going on at the people who don't use the phone the way Jobs did in the keynote and trying to belittle those who hold it differently ... "Princess" comment ring a bell? It's hypocrisy.

At the end of the day, people come here to bitch about Apple now. They don't sign up here to discuss new products, they come here to run down Apple products at any opportunity regardless of how warranted it is.

I'm by no means a fanboy. I love Apple products, I enjoy Apple products, and I've been buying Apple products for a decade now from all their markets (Mac, iPod, and now iPhone).

Honestly though, it's getting tiresome on here now. Some people just want to argue, want to moan, want to bitch, want to complain, and seem to "live" for their daily dose of "Apple Fanboy Battering".

I support Glasgow Rangers, but I wouldn't go to a Glasgow Celtic forum and post. I see no point in coming on a Apple/Mac forum if you're main objective is to bitch about Apple and their products.

They are lemmings and easily led. People love to hate apple because i guess it's en vogue to do so. But it's pretty bad that people will latch on to something about apple that isn't true. Makes them look stupid to get worked up over an e-mail that's false.

And now this put's the other e-mails in question too.
