Stevie, why don't you just "retire, relax, enjoy your family"? - not my words...

I'm kind of glad that now I have good authority on the iPhone hype: "It is just a phone. Not worth it" - says Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc.

Who's the idiot that said everyone should get a refund?

You want a refund? You can have it. It's called RETURN THE PRODUCT.

I don't know what the big deal is. Yeah, you paid $200 for a phone that you are demanding works with however way you hold it. Oh what, it doesn't work the way you want it? What, you paid 200 bucks (you people make it sound like you bought a yacht) and you are entitled to have it make you breakfast in bed?

Return it. Get your $200 back. No contract termination fees within the first 30 days. And buy a stupid Droid.

Seriously people calm the f$&@ down. The iPhone has only been out for a week. Let Apple figure **** out first. They only sold 1.7 million in 3 days and probably way over that now. The only reason this is getting all over the blogs/news is because it's the most popular phone ever. I think Apple wants to know all the facts before they give an official statement. SJ emails are just quick replies to calm people down. Let the man breath a little. Give Apple one more week. Then start the bitching again.

P.S. This was sent using my iPhone 4 with no problems :)

What would you have him do?

Oh, I dunno, pretend like he gives a s**t?

Or perhaps to quit pretending it's not an issue, when it clearly is.

Disprove the notion of some critics who say I'll buy a piece of s**t in a box as long as it has an Apple logo on it? (which is exactly what I just did).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A293 Safari/6531.22.7)

The customer is around-the-bend looney. I can't believe jobs continued to respond to him, let alone in a calm manner. The customer was waaay over the line. Here's the billionaire CEO of one of the most impotent tech companies in the world taking the time to personally email him about a product, and he throws around all caps, "sickening," "arrogance," and "jackass."

I'm not suggesting he should kiss steve's butt just because he's the CEO, but to fire off those kinds of badly typed, unprofessional, deliberately insulting emails when you actually have Jobs' attention is not just incredibly rude and inappropriate, it's dumb. You're emailing one of the most important people on the planet in terms of tech - how about trying to talk to him instead of ranting like an angry 15 year old?

Honestly, if I were Jobs I would not respond to customers any more. He can't win.

Stop B$tching!!

I know all of you bitching probably will keep bitching. But, all you have to do is not buy a F@cking iPhone. Go buy a Droid or something. I myself have an iPhone 4 for and am Left handed with big hands and I'm not bitching. Everyone one who is bitching is probably sitting in front of there computer in undies typing with one hand and stroking with the other one so if you hand iPhone your signal should be perfect since your not using it. A bit of advice get a case and a girlfriend because if you put enough effort to typing all this crap you should be able to improvise on seeking even the ugliest woman.

If this antenna problem is affecting so many people, why hasn't there been more reports of long lines @ Apple stores, Best Buy etc with people returning their iPhone 4? You want satisfaction? Return your phone, get your money back, it hasn't been 14 days yet.

My point in other threads, no one is returning the phone, maybe a handful,Apple could care less about them, its expected.
It's easier for the complainers to start boring threads than to actually take a stand and retune the phone.

My theory here is that the millions that will no doubt be sold, and we will soon hear those figures from Apple in the days to come, just do not believe there is a problem. With the story now completely off the radar of the main stream media, it will soon reside in the blogasphere, where all other good conspiracy theories reside.

Easy to duplicate, easy to avoid.
And even ignoring it and holding it 'wrong' I can still make my calls.
It is an issue; it is blown way out of proportion.
I'm not surprised, though. People put way too much emotional energy into valuing their phones, apparently.

If you're left handed you're left handed.

Steve Jobs is pulling a Tom Cruise. He needs to keep his mouth shut.

"retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it."
Considering the amount of utter mass hysteria going on with this antenna, I actually agree with Jobs on this one. If your phone isn't working, you might want to take it back and get another one before having a complete nervous breakdown and attempting to sue Apple and AT&T. I'm honestly a little surprised that Jobs is responding to some of these wingnut emails.

Some of the histrionics out there need to calm the f**k down, take a diazepam or smoke a bowl or something, then take some deep breaths and go exchange the phone if unhappy with it.

Wrong. I'm left handed. I do not "cup" the phone when talking on it. I use my finger tips to hold it on the sides and top and they don't touch the bands. This is just the normal way I've always held my phones. No dropped calls. It is a non issue.

And I can't imagine why anyone would hold a device that they actually input data into with the other hand that way. Seriously? Do you enter phone numbers and text messages with it balanced on your fingertips? Do you change how you hold the phone after you've entered to hold it to your ear? Do you even hold it to your ear or are you a headphone/BT user?

Fingertip holding is what I call 'holding like a princess' and I really dont' understand why someone would ever hold a handheld device be it cellphone, gps, calculator, or whatever that way. Wouldn't it be far more securely held by resting the left side on the palm and the fingers curled pushing into the side of the thumb?

How do people even get started holding a handheld device with their fingertips?

This is simple...

This is simple.... Apple has all of us by the short curlys... 1 out of every 100 phones could explode in our ears and they would still sell 1 million a second to all those cool kids out there wanting to be edgy... iphone is an amazing device from a hip and trendy company.... We the consumer and MacRumors subscribers love to be cool and have the latest and greatest.... So.... No matter what is written here or what Jobs says in his emails, we will buy until we don't.... :apple:

Retire Relax.... Apple's new motto... beats Nike's just do it...

Nope, lefties and those with big hands can't avoid holding thephone that way without risking dropping it.

Holding the phone avoiding that spot is completely unnatural to me.

Lefty here, big hands, when I use the death grip it forces my elbow into a weird uncomfortable position so I hold the phone as I have my 2G and 3G by the fingertips with my index over the top.

Just returned from a trip out into the country and again this phone gets better more reliable reception then either of my previous Iphones.

People need to stop complaining Apple is working on it regardless of what people say. They are going to fix this because they cant afford not to. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE PHONE RETURN IT!!!

Oh and the last time I checked my iPhone 4 works pefectly

Ok, you're a fool. Anyone that holds their phone in their left hand will have this problem.

1. That simply isn't true.

2. Even if it was true, about the 10(at the most 15) percent of the human population is left handed. Not saying they don't matter, but the way this is blowing up is ridiculous. Even if it was every phone, it wouldn't affect a large majority of the people using the phone.

3. I have an extremely difficult time trying to duplicate the issue, so don't be so arrogant as to assume you have any grounds for your statement.

I am waiting.

Ok, you're a fool. Anyone that holds their phone in their left hand will have this problem.

I'm waiting for the lawyers getting lawsuits in line that say Apple is discriminating against the left handed people of the world.

I'm ambidextrous, I get the problem with both hands, it depends on your area and signal type/strength - I've said many times just because YOU don't have a problem it doesn't mean others don't.

(FYI I don't bearhug it either - I've had many problems with people I'm speaking to telling me the call is very poor quality even when I'm holding it by two fingers top and bottom - with 5 bars...)

I did just state I could recreate the issue, but don't hold it in such a manner where it drops reception and kills my call. I never said that since mine is good, they are all good.

The issue does come up when you bear hug the phone where your palm touches the left lower corner. You're the first person I have read here at least to say it affects you no matter how you hold it, which hand, and still shows 5 bars and still drops the call. I think their might be something else going on with you.

agreed, give apple couple of weeks and then start bitching!!! again

my iPhone 4 also has same problem, it is just a phone so i am waiting for a fix :D

People, take it easy. It's just a flippin' phone. If you're not happy with it, then return it and get something else. It's not like you're forced to get an iPhone. Apple does have a return policy - use it.

Get a life already.

Steve is awesome. If there was actually a problem with the phones, Apple would have taken care of all affected. The last thing they want is a REAL issue to mar one of their great products.

Not much they can do about a non-issue that has blown out of proportion by loud, whiny, morons.

When Steve says they're working on it, what he means is they're working on a software fix that will prevent the bars from dropping when holding the phone like an idiot. Problem solved. No more misunderstanding.

I think we need to make it official for Steve Jobs to have his own section on Macrumors to respond to any questions with a widely known account. A direct link to his customers.

or his particular iPhone 4 is lemon and needs replacement ...

Another point.....

Have you noticed that the mainstream media hasn't really reported on this yet? There is a reason and it's not a lack of awareness. It's because real journalists gather comprehensive information from all sides of an issue, thoroughly researched and backed up with expert opinion. I'm not saying there is no story here, but rather that these blogs do a very poor job (in general) of substantiating these stories and reporting with facts and fairness. Honestly, the initial reports were akin to " I heard a guy in a bar say his iPhone sucked". Many of us have no issues with the phone. Some people may. Others try very hard to make their phone "suck" as well. I can put my tongue on the antennae area in question and make the transmission of data nosedive, but honestly does that make the phone defective?

As time passes, I think it will be demonstrated that the antennae design and how the phone is held combined can inhibit the use of the phone in certain circumstances. I'm confident Apple will provide a reasonable solution for those crabby malcontents that can't deal with the design. I for one will continue to enjoy this wonderful device that, despite this issue, has caused me ZERO problems.

I doubt there is much they can do to "work on it." This isn't something I imagine they can fix with a software update. Nevertheless, I have not had any issues with reception while holding my phone at the bottom left corner.

Yes it is. It is apparently an issue with the frequency switching on the phone. If held in the left hand, bridging the two antennae, the phone does not switch frequencies quickly or efficiently. If this is the actual problem, a software update certainly can fix the frequency switching programming of the phone. I experience the problem in my home and other areas where I get 5 bars, but it is not a strong signal, but not other places where I have a strong signal. This switching problem makes sense then, because if I'm in a strong signal area, my phone would not have to switch frequencies to maintain signal.

honestly, i hold my phone normally but no death grip and it works fine. whoever is complaining about reception must be a perfectionist and require 4 bars at all times or scratched their phone already and is trying to weasel their way to getting a brand new one. shut the hell up and enjoy your iphone 4.

I am right handed, I hold in in my left hand for playing games, surfing Safari, etc. I also switch hands when I'm on the phone, especially on a long conversation. It most certainly is a problem, especially when I'm on Safari and can't access a data network that I'm paying to access, or drop a call because my right arm got tired and I switched to my left hand. This has only happened a few times, but it shouldn't happen at all. A few dropped calls in a week when I hadn't had any on my 3G in a month is certainly not acceptable.

Steve Jobs not worth it!

"It is just a phone. Not worth it." says Steve Jobs.
This is a joke: it costs 700 euros and it is not worth complaining!!!!!!
Unbelievable.
Apple behaves more and more like a dictatorship.
Ignoring the public.
The clients!!!!
