The Man

Steve Jobs is the Man, I've been trying to say this myself!
It's not a design flaw when the majority of phones work perfect, mine has been working perfect!:apple::apple::apple::cool::cool::cool:

"Jobs also sent one final message, encouraging the customer to "retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it."

100% CORRECT!

Yes, of course.
But Steve is talking all the time about a magical product and a phone that will change everything. Again.
Maybe he meant the way we will have to hold our phones in the future will change dramatically :-D

I normally hate Steve's email responses, because he's usually so rude, but he really got it right this time. Everyone is too obsessed with this thing, it's just a phone. Get over it, nerds. Get outside and do something useful.

Hehe, seriously. I normally hate these types of threads, but there are so many, I can't resist.

He's right. I'm not a fanboy, but I like Apple products, and the company. It is, just a phone, with a return policy, purchased by consumers who can return it, or not buy it to begin with. Get over it if you don't like it, and buy another phone!

Seriously, the whole thing is ludicrous. ANYONE who gets this worked up over a phone, when there are some serious issues going on in the world, from genocide, to oil spills, to wars and everything else, is a complete and utter moron.

Get a life would pretty much be my e-mail response, LOL.

Some Apple fans are almost cult-like in their obsession and worship of Apple products. They must have them, even if they're defective, and will not even consider something as simple as returning the product and buying something else. So when something like this happens, they'd rather yell until they're blue in the face than taking the easy road of getting their money back and buying a better phone.

+1, Its hilarious, fanboy's back up Apple no matter what. Fact is, Apple is in the wrong, there is no doubt about that. People should not be having reception issues, and those who are having them should get a refund. Apple's being so arrogant lately, and Steve Jobs is still denying there is an issue.

It is an issue, I've seen it everywhere, people are having signal & transmission issues.

Well, Steve may not win the PR king of the year award but....

1. I only experience the issue in areas where the cell coverage is a bit dodgy, so for me this part of his statement is spot on.

2. With a case the reception loss is almost non existent in areas I frequent. But as the case indeed makes a difference I think Steve needs to loosen up a quid or two and issue one with the purchase.

3. I love my iP4.

Even if the iP4 was perfect in every way, could make you run faster, dive deeper and come out dryer than any other consumer product, there would still be the DBs that will will join this forum to get their "hate freak" on. That said, someone from PR needs to tell Mr Jobs to stop answering emails.

Ok, you're a fool. Anyone that holds their phone in their left hand will have this problem.

I hold it in my left hand and I don't have the problem.... That is because I don't hold the phone in a bear hug with my hand. I can recreate the issue, but for me at least I can hold it where it won't affect the reception.

I'm convinced that at least 75% of the people complaining about this issue are simply complaining in hopes of getting something for free. I honestly don't see how you can comfortably use the phone while gripping the bottom of the phone.

In my experience, my marginal signal has gone up a couple bars while walking around my house and it doesn't drop everytime I sit on the couch so I'm a happy camper.

This guy obviously has no standards...probably drives a Kia.

You idiots.

"Just a phone" means: if you don't like it, take it back.

And this bitching is only going to get worse from you guys as we approach the 30 day mark, while you decide "Oh, should I return this?! Will they have an update?! HELP ME!!!"

They must have them, even if they're defective, and will not even consider something as simple as returning the product and buying something else.

+1 if the iPhone 4 isn't working for you, return it. Mine's working fine. I was able to see the bars dropping, though I could not get it to drop a call, but I put it in a Griffin Reveal case and can't even get it to drop bars anymore.

I find this sort of hilarious. Why doesn't this guy return it or buy a bumper. I understand his frustration, but this issue was making your life so awful wouldn't you at least give the bumper a shot? Or just buy a droid. We live in a capitalist society. We let our opinions be known by how we spend our money, not by sending hysterical letters to CEOs of he products we dislike.

At this point I agree. I certainly believe some people have the issue that affects them regularly, but at this point they should just return the damn phone and stop getting so worked up about it.

I have yet to drop a call or see any real-world negative effect on my phone. There is no question the the antenae area in question is sensitive to touch, but I have yet to see any real consequence. I live in a rural area with in and out 3G coverage and the 4 is doing better than the 3Gs.

Ok, Steve Jobs did not just say that the iPhone is "just a phone"

I think I'm going to cry.

Some people crave and need attention. That is why some very loud people are complaining, complaining, complaining and yet don't simply return the phone.

EVERYONE is within the return period right now. If your phone is giving you such problems that you can't even make a phone call, if it is stressing you out so much that you need to run to an Internet message board to attack anyone and everyone who says that their own phone works perfectly well, then it is not worth it!

Because guess what: regardless of your complaints on the Internet, Apple still has your money. Period. There will be little incentive for them to fix it until they start losing money either by way of having to replace tons of units (which apparently they're refusing to do for this issue) or by returns.

I had the "yellow screen" issue last year with my launch day 3GS. I posted about it here and then went to Apple and got it replaced. If they had refused to replace it and I really couldn't live with it, I would have returned it and been done with it.

"retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it." - But it is worth £600 of my money right? If we wanted "just a phone" we'd have saved ourselves a lot of money on a used Nokia 3210... I agree we should relax, but he should promise to recall or refund if they can't fix the issue - that would give us peace of mind Mr Jobs :)

I'm convinced that at least 75% of the people complaining about this issue are simply complaining in hopes of getting something for free. I honestly don't see how you can comfortably use the phone while gripping the bottom of the phone.

I made a point to pay attention yesterday to how I hold my phone when talking. Not once did I use the "death grip". No part of my hand ever touched the bottom corner of the phone, and when I did try the grip, it was extremely uncomfortable. Maybe I'll take a look to see how others around me hold their phones.

Nope, lefties and those with big hands can't avoid holding thephone that way without risking dropping it.

Not true. I'm left-handed and don't hold my phone that way at all.

I sort of agree with the reception comment. In my house I can now drop calls and go to 'searching...' but when I went to AT&T to inquire about MyCell I couldn't get a bar to drop. I think my poor 3G coverage is more to blame...

Let's be honest here...

It's not just a phone. It's my sole means of communication with my clients everyday. Do you think SJ can sympathize that I drop VERY important calls daily here in NY. It is embarrassing as a professional and pathetic that I constantly have to make excuses..."it's the ****ing iPhone...sorry". Really if I wanted just a phone I would buy a POS CrackBerry.

I think the iPhone 4 has a few flaws. I don't like how Apple is handling this but come on just return the phone. It's only been a week.

I think Steve Jobs should stop responding to emails (even though I agree it's just a phone and enjoy the holiday weekend) but some people are treating this problem like a cancer diagnosis.

Apple will get this right. They have always taken care of my issues and I just think we all need to calm down and see what they have to say.

Hope everyone has a great and safe Independance Day weekend!

I've been testing my iPhone 4 out in different areas and have had a hard time replicating the signal issue even holding it with my left hand. When my signal is strong, it really is a non issue. When I'm indoors I can sometimes get the signal to drop, but never to zero.

The signal bar probably is not right and cupping the phone finally makes it drop connection cause it is just connected.

Of course this could be cleared up if they stop being so secretive.
